Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone released from enteroendocrine cells in the distal small and large intestines in response to nutrients and other stimuli, not only controls eating and insulin release, but is also involved in drinking control as well as renal and cardiovascular functions. Moreover, GLP-1 functions as a central nervous system peptide transmitter, produced by preproglucagon (PPG) neurons in the hindbrain. Intestinal GLP-1 inhibits eating by activating vagal sensory neurons directly, via GLP-1 receptors (GLP-1Rs), but presumably also indirectly, by triggering the release of serotonin from enterochromaffin cells.

In two cross-sectional and two experimental studies across both advantaged and disadvantaged group members (N = 1980 from two national contexts, UK and Italy), we explored if perceptions of group relative prototypicality may explain the association of positive and negative contact with collective action. Specifically, across studies, we investigated subgroup relative prototypicality with respect to four different common identities (national, supranational, based on humanity, humanity values). In Studies 1-2, among advantaged group members, positive contact was positively associated with collective action intentions via greater relative prototypicality of disadvantaged groups; in Study 2, we also found that negative contact was negatively associated with collective action intentions via decreased relative prototypicality of disadvantaged groups.

Background: This study investigated the effect of sulfur nutrition, basalt rock aggregate (BA) application, with a carbon capture function, and speed breeding under light-emitting diode (LED) light, on the nutritional profile of potatoes and acrylamide formation in crisp production.

Results: Taurus potatoes grown with sulfur showed reduced glucose, sucrose, and total amino acids, and increased asparagine. No difference in acrylamide content was observed in crisps from Taurus and Lady Claire cultivars, with either sulfur or BA application.

Since their origin, sauropodomorphs have undergone numerous anatomical changes from small and bipedal early sauropodomorphs towards massive-bodied and quadrupedal sauropods. However, the timing of these changes in the evolution of the group is unclear. Here, we describe the appendicular skeleton of the early diverging eusauropod Bagualia alba from the late Early Jurassic of Patagonia, Argentina, and conduct a morphological disparity analysis based on a phylogenetic dataset of Sauropoda.

Studying avian embryology necessitates reliable and precise staging tables-descriptions of embryonic features appearing during development that are used to approximate the extent of embryonic development from fertilisation to hatching. Staging tables for waterfowl (Anseriformes) have previously been established based on morphological features from fertilisation to approximately 10 days before hatching. Embryonic changes over the final 10 days of pre-hatching development have also been documented and proposed as useful staging criteria.

Transmission electron microscopy can be used for the characterisation of a wide range of thin specimens, but soft matter and aqueous samples such as gels, nanoparticle dispersions, and emulsions will dry out and collapse under the microscope vacuum, therefore losing information on their native state and ultimately limiting the understanding of the sample. This study examines commonly used techniques in transmission electron microscopy when applied to the characterisation of cryogenically frozen Pickering emulsion samples. Oil-in-water Pickering emulsions stabilised by 3 to 5 nm platinum nanoparticles were cryogenically frozen by plunge-freezing into liquid ethane to retain the native structure of the system without inducing crystallisation of the droplet oil cores.

The objective of this study was to identify core genes for rheumatoid arthritis by testing for association of rheumatoid arthritis with genome-wide aggregated trans- effects (GATE) scores for expression of each gene as transcript in whole blood or as circulating protein levels.

Methods: GATE scores were calculated for 5400 cases and 453705 non-cases of primary rheumatoid arthritis in UK Biobank participants of European ancestry.
