Simultaneous merkel cell carcinoma and acute myeloid leukaemia: A diagnostic challenge.

Merkel cell carcinoma is a very aggressive primary skin tumour with a high risk of local recurrences and lymphatic and distant metastases. The frequent association between this carcinoma and other skin tumour and lymphoid malignancies, its similar cellular morphology with leukocytes, and limited infiltration in bone marrow constituted a challenging diagnosis. We report an unusual case of an 82-year-old male who simultaneously presented Merkel cell carcinoma and acute myeloid lymphoma.

Integrated modeling of labile and glycated hemoglobin with glucose for enhanced diabetes detection and short-term monitoring.

Metabolic biomarkers, particularly glycated hemoglobin and fasting plasma glucose, are pivotal in the diagnosis and control of diabetes mellitus. Despite their importance, they exhibit limitations in assessing short-term glucose variations. In this study, we propose labile hemoglobin as an additional biomarker, providing insightful perspectives into these fluctuations.

We describe a case of interspecies transmission of toxigenic Clostridioides difficile involving a female and her dog, both with diarrhea without another diagnosis. Genomic analysis showed that isolates were grouped into MLST clade I, closely related to ribotype 020 and shared identical genotypes.

WHAT IS ALREADY KNOWN ABOUT THE TOPIC?: Our present understanding of mechanical restraint is heterogenous, largely due to the important differences between countries/regions. In Spain, the use of this restrictive practice is not regulated, nor is its use protocolized. Previous studies that have investigated the impact of organizational factors and changes in these protocols are often short and not conducted within a framework designed to establish a long-term plan for reducing the use of mechanical restraint.
