Variability of Psoriatic Arthritis Impact of Disease questionnaire (PsAID12) thresholds in psoriatic arthritis: data from the ReFlaP study.

Objectives: To explore thresholds for the Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) Impact of Disease questionnaire (PsAID12) score against disease activity measures in an observational setting, in patients with PsA.

Methods: The baseline data from the ReFlaP observational, prospective, multicentre and international study was used (NCT03119805). Cutoffs for PsAID12 were determined against disease activity scores, defining disease impact states (ie remission, low impact, moderate impact and high impact).

European clinical practice guideline: managing and treating laryngopharyngeal reflux disease.

Objective: To propose a European consensus for managing and treating laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD) to guide primary care and specialist physicians.

Methods: Twenty-three European experts (otolaryngologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons) participated in a modified Delphi process to revise 38 statements about the definition, clinical management, and treatment of LPRD. Three voting rounds were conducted on a 5-point scale and a consensus was defined a priori as agreement by 80% of the experts.

Cranio-facial trauma diagnosis using paleo-proteotyping of a blood sample from Robespierre (1794).

Tradition has it that the politician Robespierre, a famous tribune of the French Revolution, was lying, wounded in the face by a bullet from a firearm, on an 18th century desk, and left a trace of blood there, before being guillotined the next day (1794). This piece of furniture is now kept in the National Archives (Paris, France). A paleo-proteomic study was carried out on several brown stains on the leather of the desk, which confirmed the human blood nature of the sample, but also identified the protein signature of different craniofacial organs.

Foramen tympanicum: tomographic study of a large cohort of Europeans.

Purpose: The foramen tympanicum (FT) is an anatomical variation of the tympanic part of the temporal bone located in the anteroinferior part of the external auditory pore (EAP) and posteromedial to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). The FT is most often asymptomatic, but it can be symptomatic in rare cases. The prevalence of FT varies widely in the literature.

In this case, we present the results of the chemical study of pipe residues found in the context of an archaeological mission (AROMA mission: Archaeology of the Exercise of Royal and Magico-Religious Power) in the royal palaces of Abomey (Benin), dating from the 17th-19th century. The search for many products was carried out (mainly tobacco, cannabis) but surprisingly only highlighted the presence of caffeine residues.

12-week melatonin intake attenuates cardiac autonomic dysfunction and oxidative stress in multiple sclerosis patients: a randomized controlled trial.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) can induce cardiac autonomic dysfunction identified by a decreased heart rate variability (HRV) which was linked to oxidative stress, vitamin D deficiency and sleep disturbance. Previous MS studies revealed the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of exogenous melatonin, as well as its benefits on sleep and vitamin D. We aimed to investigate the change in HRV, oxidative stress, systemic inflammation and sleep following melatonin supplementation in MS patients.

[Screening for sleep disorders in internal medicine as potential comorbidities of systemic autoimmune diseases and improving patients' quality of life].

Sleep medicine and internal medicine share a global and transdisciplinary vision of human physiology and illnesses, with an approach guided by the complaint and semiology. In France, approximately 13 to 18 million individuals suffer from a sleep disorder: these disorders therefore represent a public health problem. Their comorbidities with systemic autoimmune diseases are frequent.

Expert perspectives for transoral robotic versus laser surgery for supraglottic carcinomas.

Objective: To assess the opinion, practices, and challenges of international key opinion leaders about two minimal invasive surgical techniques in supraglottic laryngeal tumours: transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) and the transoral robotic surgery (TORS).

Methods: Design of a questionnaire composed of seven sections and fifty questions covering descriptive data of participants, practitioners experience procedural sequences, considerations related to airways, feeding, and voice, intraoperative haemorrhage, postoperative management, and a comparative analysis of TLM and TORS in treating supraglottic laryngeal cancer.

Results: A total of 27 head and neck surgeons replied to the survey.

Oxygenation Effects of Antihypertensive Agents in Intensive Care: A Prospective Comparative Study of Nicardipine and Urapidil.

Acute arterial hypertension within the critical care context may necessitate the administration of intravenous antihypertensive agents. Nicardipine and urapidil are notable for their application in intensive care units. Nonetheless, dihydropyridine calcium channel inhibitors (DCCIs) such as nicardipine are implicated in the impairment of hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction, potentially disrupting oxygenation.

Neuromuscular fatigability is not affected by the contraction pattern of exercises with a similar mean torque.

Purpose: Neuromuscular fatigability is task-dependent, but the influence of the contraction pattern on neuromuscular fatigability is largely unknown. Therefore, the present study aims to investigate if neuromuscular fatigability is affected by the contraction pattern of exhausting isometric exercises.

Methods: Thirteen participants sustained a plantar flexors MVC for 1 min (MVC) before and after exhausting exercises designed to produce a similar mean torque (30% MVC), and following a 10-min rest period.

The Maison des Femmes (MdF) model provides holistic support to women experiencing VAW, including medical, psychological, social and legal support.

Early-onset anorexia nervosa: a scoping review and management guidelines.

Background: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious multifactorial eating disorder characterized by insufficient nutritional intake to maintain a minimum normal weight for one's age and height, a fear of gaining weight and a distorted body image. It affects mainly adolescents, but a decreased age at diagnosis has been reported, leading to the definition of a rare form of AN called early-onset or prepubertal anorexia nervosa (EOAN; ORPHA 525738), with reported epidemiological and clinical specificity. Current knowledge and specific treatments for this particular condition remain scarce.

Combination of non-invasive brain stimulation with mindfulness-based interventions for anxiety and depression symptoms: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

In this article we aimed synthesize all available evidence regarding the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques combined with mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) on mental health indicators. We performed a systematic review of randomized controlled trials evaluating NIBS/MBIs combinations in clinical populations and a random effects pairwise meta-analysis of studies evaluating anxiety and depression symptoms. After independent trial selection by two authors based on titles/abstracts, and then on full texts, twelve trials were retrieved.

Anxiety, depression and fear of cancer recurrence in uveal melanoma survivors and ophthalmologist/oncologist communication during survivorship in France - protocol of a prospective observational mixed-method study.

Background: Quality of life (QoL) in patients undergoing surveillance for uveal melanoma (UM) can be affected by psychological sequelae. Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) may be acute especially when prognostication indicates an increased risk of metastatic recurrence. Communication with an ophthalmologist or oncologist can then play a key role in impacting QoL.

The CheckMate 816 trial: a milestone in neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy of nonsmall cell lung cancer.

Advancements in immunotherapy in the perioperative setting have revolutionised the treatment of resectable nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here we present the methodology and results of the clinical trial CheckMate 816 demonstrating the benefit of neoadjuvant therapy with nivolumab plus chemotherapy compared with chemotherapy alone. Furthermore, this article discusses the implications for future practice in resectable NSCLC and the need for future research.

Prevention of perioperative venous thromboembolism: 2024 guidelines from the French Working Group on Perioperative Haemostasis (GIHP) developed in collaboration with the French Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (SFAR), the French Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (SFTH) and the French Society of Vascular Medicine (SFMV) and endorsed by the French Society of Digestive Surgery (SFCD), the French Society of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (SFPT) and INNOVTE (Investigation Network On Venous ThromboEmbolism) network.

Background: Any surgical procedure carries a risk for venous thromboembolism (VTE), albeit variable. Improvements in medical and surgical practices and the shortening of care pathways due to the development of day surgery and enhanced recovery after surgery, have reduced the perioperative risk for VTE.
