Environmental conditions influence the use of different nitrogen (N) sources by plants. We hypothesized that an increase in light intensity favors the use of nitrate (NO ) relative to ammonium (NH ) by seedlings of neotropical tree species from different functional groups, that is, Cecropia pachystachya (a shade-intolerant species), Cariniana estrellensis (a shade-tolerant canopy species), and Guarea kunthiana (a shade-tolerant understory species). We analyzed the growth and N metabolism in seedlings simultaneously provided with NH and NO , under lower (LL) and higher (HL) light intensity.

Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the procollagen-lysine, 2-oxoglutarate 5-dioxygenase 1 (PLOD1) gene, associated with collagen biosynthesis. WFFS causes lesions and malformations of the skin in neonatal foals, and abortion. The objective of this study was to investigate the allelic frequency of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) c.

Canine morbillivirus (previously, canine distemper virus, CDV) is a highly contagious infectious disease-causing agent that produces immunosuppressive infections and multiple clinical signs. Canine toxoplasmosis is an opportunistic disease characterized by enteric, pulmonary, and neuromuscular signs that might be confused with CDV-induced infections. Rhodococcus equi is a Gram-positive intracellular facultative bacterium that is also opportunistic in nature, and causes pyogranulomatous infections in humans and multiple host animals, although canine rhodococcosis is rare or unrecognized.

Despite the great diversity of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB) with potential to partially replace the use of N fertilisers in agriculture, few PGPB have been explored for the production of commercial inoculants, reinforcing the importance of identifying positive plant-bacteria interactions. Aiming to better understand the influence of PGPB inoculation in plant development, two PGPB species with distant phylogenetic relationship were inoculated in maize. Maize seeds were inoculated with Bacillus sp.

The aims of this study were to discuss the use of orthodontics for oral rehabilitation in patients, particularly for dealing with bone defects, and to present a clinical case in which the orthodontic extrusive remodeling approach was used for bone gain in the posterior maxillary region, with subsequent implant placement. After 18 months of treatment, the dimensions of the alveolar process were restored and an implant was fixed in the maxillary region, with appropriate bone and gingival levels. Based on the literature and clinical evidence, orthodontic extrusion may be considered as an alternative to surgery to obtain a suitable implant site.
