Preoperative volume asymmetry in the upper eyelid sulci can pose a challenge in achieving symmetry after upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Reported methods to improve volume asymmetry include the use of soft tissue filler and various surgical techniques. The authors present 6 cases where a central preaponeurotic fat advancement pedicle was utilized during upper eyelid blepharoplasty for improved upper eyelid symmetry (Fig.

Aim And Background: Patients are increasingly turning to the internet to learn more about their ocular disease. In this study, we sought (1) to compare the accuracy and readability of Google and ChatGPT responses to patients' glaucoma-related frequently asked questions (FAQs) and (2) to evaluate ChatGPT's capacity to improve glaucoma patient education materials by accurately reducing the grade level at which they are written.
Materials And Methods: We executed a Google search to identify the three most common FAQs related to 10 search terms associated with glaucoma diagnosis and treatment.

Background: Keratoconus in children is often more severe and rapidly progressive compared to adults. While Scheimpflug imaging (Pentacam) improves screening, there are no established pediatric guidelines. Due to challenges in diagnosis, we aimed to correlate clinical factors with abnormal imaging results to aid in the development of screening protocols.

Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) stands as a distinctive maternally inherited mitochondrial disorder marked by painless, subacute central vision loss, primarily affecting young males. This review covers the possible relationship between LHON and multiple sclerosis (MS), covering genetic mutations, clinical presentations, imaging findings, and treatment options. LHON is associated with mutations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), notably m.

Purpose: To describe the optical coherence tomography (OCT) features that can differentiate eyes with fovea-off exudative retinal detachment (ERD) vs rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD), with particular attention to outer retinal corrugations (ORCs).
Design: Multicenter, retrospective cross-sectional study.
Methods: Multicenter, retrospective cross-sectional study of patients diagnosed with unilateral or bilateral fovea-off ERD or primary, acute, fovea-off RRD between 2016 and 2021.

Importance: Given that resident physician financial strain has been associated with poor outcomes, objective metrics to forecast financial well-being may be useful to (1) applicants when evaluating ophthalmology residency programs and (2) programs when determining resident benefits.
Objectives: To determine and compare the relative value of ophthalmology resident stipends plus benefits when adjusted for cost-of-living expenses and to analyze program characteristics associated with greater resident net incomes.
Design, Setting, And Participants: In this cross-sectional study, the American Medical Association's Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database was used to identify US Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited ophthalmology residency programs.

Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a chronic, progressive, allergic ocular surface disorder that can lead to sight-threatening complications. VKC occurs primarily in children and generally resolves about the time of puberty; however, case series and retrospective analyses indicate that approximately 10% of patients with VKC are adults, and that a subset of adult cases develop after puberty. Consequently, two age-related variants of VKC have recently been described: early-onset VKC-which manifests during childhood and persists into adult life-and late-onset disease, which emerges after puberty.

Recessive Stargardt disease (STGD1) is an inherited juvenile maculopathy caused by mutations in the ABCA4 gene, for which there is no suitable treatment. Loss of functional ABCA4 in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) alone, without contribution from photoreceptor cells, was shown to induce STGD1 pathology. Here, we identified cathepsin D (CatD), the primary RPE lysosomal protease, as a key molecular player contributing to endo-lysosomal dysfunction in STGD1 using a newly developed "disease-in-a-dish" RPE model from confirmed STGD1 patients.

MicroRNAs (miRs) are short, evolutionarily conserved noncoding RNAs that canonically downregulate expression of target genes. The miR family composed of miR-204 and miR-211 is among the most highly expressed miRs in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in both mouse and human and also retains high sequence identity. To assess the role of this miR family in the developed mouse eye, we generated two floxed conditional KO mouse lines crossed to the RPE65-ERT2-Cre driver mouse line to perform an RPE-specific conditional KO of this miR family in adult mice.

Breast cancer (BC) remains among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women worldwide. Triple-negative BC (TNBC) is a subset of BC characterized by aggressive behavior, a high risk of distant recurrence, and poor overall survival rates. Chemotherapy is the backbone for treatment in patients with TNBC, but outcomes remain poor compared to other BC subtypes, in part due to the lack of recognized functional targets.

Antibody drug conjugates (ADCs) are an emerging class of treatments designed to improve efficacy and decrease toxicity compared with other systemic therapies through the selective delivery of cytotoxic agents to tumor cells. Datopotamab deruxtecan (Dato-DXd) is a novel ADC comprising a topoisomerase I inhibitor payload and a monoclonal antibody directed to trophoblast cell-surface antigen 2 (TROP2), a protein that is broadly expressed in several types of solid tumors. Dato-DXd is being investigated across multiple solid tumor indications.

A major limitation to developing chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapies for solid tumors is identifying surface proteins highly expressed in tumors but not in normal tissues. Here, we identify Tyrosinase Related Protein 1 (TYRP1) as a CAR-T cell therapy target to treat patients with cutaneous and rare melanoma subtypes unresponsive to immune checkpoint blockade. TYRP1 is primarily located intracellularly in the melanosomes, with a small fraction being trafficked to the cell surface via vesicular transport.

The Argentinian flag sign (AFS) is a feared complication during cataract extraction. Intralenticular pressures, especially excessive posterior pressure, have been identified as potential mechanisms for capsular stress and tearing associated with AFS. Capsular tension is created by positive intralenticular pressures, which cause the irido-lens diaphragm to move anteriorly once the manual capsulorhexis has been initiated.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess trends in consumer-product-related geriatric ocular injuries using National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) data. Understanding the specific consumer products and settings coded in the NEISS dictionary that contribute to geriatric (≥ 65 years) ocular injuries, along with changing patterns during events like the COVID-19 pandemic, provides crucial insights for tailoring therapy and preventative strategies. This ultimately may reduce the burden of eye injuries on both older adults and healthcare systems.

Assessing anterior chamber inflammation is highly subjective and challenging. Although various grading systems attempt to offer objectivity and standardization, the clinical assessment has high interobserver variability. Traditional techniques, such as laser flare meter and fluorophotometry, are not widely used since they are time-consuming.
