Intraoral osseous choristoma represents a benign lesion of growing ectopic bone in the soft tissues of the oral cavity. It is considered as rare entity while fewer than 100 cases have ever been reported worldwide. Nevertheless, the pathogenetic mechanism that drives this abnormal ossification still remains controversial.

Introduction: The potential mechanisms governing drug induced osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is not well understood, and is one of the objectives of this study. Thus, we tested the release of IFN-γ within different immune compartments including bone marrow and gingivae upon treatment with zoledronic acid (ZOL) and denosumab which are known to induce ONJ in susceptible individuals.
Methods: We used humanized-BLT mouse model for the studies reported in this paper.

Ultraviolet (UV) photofunctionalization counteracts the biological aging of titanium to increase the bioactivity and osseointegration of titanium implants. However, UV photofunctionalization currently requires long treatment times of between 12 min and 48 h, precluding routine clinical use. Here, we tested the ability of a novel, xenon excimer lamp emitting 172 nm vacuum UV (VUV) to decompose organic molecules coated on titanium as a surrogate of photofunctionalization.

Late detection and specialist referral result in poor oral cancer outcomes globally. High-risk LRMU populations usually do not have access to oral medicine specialists, a specialty of dentistry, whose expertise includes the identification, treatment, and management of oral cancers. To overcome this access barrier, there is an urgent need for novel, low-cost tele-health approaches to expand specialist access to low-resource, remote and underserved individuals.

Background: A successful root canal (RC) treatment depends upon creation of a fluid impervious seal that is commonly built by using a RC sealer along with gutta-percha. The bond strength of the RC sealer is a hallmark as it will minimize the risk of treatment failure by reducing the possibility of filling detachment from dentin.
Aim: To evaluate and compare the push-out bond strength of AH-Plus and MTA-Fillapex with Gutta-Percha and Epiphany Self Etch/Resilon system using the Universal Testing Machine.

Implant provisional restorations should ideally be nontoxic to the contacting and adjacent tissues, create anatomical and biophysiological stability, and establish a soft tissue seal through interactions between prosthesis, soft tissue, and alveolar bone. However, there is a lack of robust, systematic, and fundamental data to inform clinical decision making. Here we systematically explored the biocompatibility of fibroblasts and osteoblasts in direct contact with, or close proximity to, provisional restoration materials.

Purpose: We examined blood and protein dynamics potentially influenced by implant threads and hydrophilic/hydrophobic states of implant surfaces.
Methods: A computational fluid dynamics model was created for a screw-shaped implant with a water contact angle of 70° (hydrophobic surface) and 0° (superhydrophilic surface). Movements and density of blood and fibrinogen as a representative wound healing protein were visualized and quantified during constant blood inflow.

Ghost cell odontogenic carcinoma (GCOC) is an exceptionally rare malignant odontogenic neoplasm with a significant potential for aggressive growth. Although the literature on this tumor is limited, its high recurrence rates suggest that early and multimodal intervention may be beneficial. This study reports a case of GCOC of the mandible that was successfully treated with surgical resection, reconstruction, and radiation.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) methodologies are rapidly developing. However, RNA Sequencing of saliva is challenging due to low abundance and integrity of extracellular RNA, as well as large amounts of bacterial RNAs that may be encountered in saliva. In addition, the literature about human salivary extracellular RNA is very scarce.

Over the past two decades, the global efforts for the early detection and intervention of prostate cancer seem to have made significant progresses in the basic researches, but the clinic outcomes have been disappointing: (1) prostate cancer is still the most common non-cutaneous cancer in Europe in men, (2) the age-standardized prostate cancer rate has increased in nearly all Asian and African countries, (3) the proportion of advanced cancers at the diagnosis has increased to 8.2% from 3.9% in the USA, (4) the worldwide use of PSA testing and digital rectal examination have failed to reduce the prostate cancer mortality, and (5) there is still no effective preventive method to significantly reduce the development, invasion, and metastasis of prostate cancer… Together, these facts strongly suggest that the global efforts during the past appear to be not in a correlated target with markedly inconsistent basic research and clinic outcomes.

High-dose-rate interstitial brachytherapy (HDR-ISBT) has recently come to be considered one of the most effective treatments for oral cancer. On the other hand, it is important to note that radiation therapy has some side effects. Especially, radiation-induced malignancy is probably the most serious complication affecting long-term survivors.

Fibula flap reconstruction with primary dental implant placement has been established as a successful procedure for composite mandibular defects. When using virtual surgical planning, these techniques typically require additional personnel and materials preoperatively and intraoperatively to fabricate occlusal-based guidance and prosthesis. The authors present a technique utilizing a custom-made implant-supported prosthesis completed before surgery that greatly reduces lead time and needed resources.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common and lethal types of cancer affecting over one million people, leading to 768,793 deaths globally in 2020 alone. The key for improving the survival rate lies in reliable screening and early diagnosis. Existing techniques including barium-meal gastric photofluorography and upper endoscopy can be costly and time-consuming and are thus impractical for population screening.

The oral cavity contains a variety of ecological niches with very different environmental conditions that shape biofilm structure and composition. The space between the periodontal tissue and the tooth surface supports a unique anaerobic microenvironment that is bathed in the nutrient-rich gingival crevicular fluid (GCF). During the development of periodontitis, this environment changes and clinical findings reported a sustained level of calcium ion concentration in the GCF collected from the periodontal pockets of periodontitis patients.
