Doxorubicin is a highly effective anticancer agent, but its clinical use is restricted by severe side effects, including atherosclerosis and cardiomyopathy. These complications are partly attributed to doxorubicin's ability to induce endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) in vascular endothelial cells, a critical process in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis and cardiomyopathy. GV1001, a multifunctional peptide with anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, antioxidant, and anti-Alzheimer's properties, has demonstrated inhibition of EndMT.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into dental imaging has led to significant advancements, particularly in the analysis of panoramic radiographs, also known as orthopantomograms (OPGs). One emerging application of AI is in determining gender from these radiographs, a task traditionally performed by forensic experts using manual methods. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the accuracy of AI algorithms in gender determination using OPGs, focusing on the reliability and potential clinical and forensic applications of these technologies.

Despite advancements in cancer therapeutics such as checkpoint inhibitors and some targeted therapies, we have not achieved success in effectively treating ovarian cancer, since these therapeutics only benefit a subset of patients, and also provide short-term protection. The use of chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause depletion and/or lack of immune cells' function. Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapy is found to be effective against several blood-based cancers, but limited success was seen against solid tumors.

Macrophages are important regulators of bone remodeling, and M1 polarization is observed in the setting of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ). Here, we characterize the phenotype of macrophages during early stages of MRONJ development in zoledronate (ZA)-treated mice with periodontal disease and explore the role of rosiglitazone, a drug that has been reported to lower the M1/M2 macrophage ratio, in MRONJ burden. During implant maintenance, preserving a smooth surface on the machined transmucosal abutment is critical to reduce biofilm attachment and colonization. The present study compared the surface roughness and bacterial colonization of machined titanium surfaces after instrumentation with various materials. Considering the biological activity of osteoblasts is crucial when devising new approaches to enhance the osseointegration of implant surfaces, as their behavior profoundly influences clinical outcomes. An established inverse correlation exists between osteoblast proliferation and their functional differentiation, which constrains the rapid generation of a significant amount of bone. Examining the surface morphology of implants reveals that roughened titanium surfaces facilitate rapid but thin bone formation, whereas smooth, machined surfaces promote greater volumes of bone formation albeit at a slower pace.

Dental implant therapy, established as standard-of-care nearly three decades ago with the advent of microrough titanium surfaces, revolutionized clinical outcomes through enhanced osseointegration. However, despite this pivotal advancement, challenges persist, including prolonged healing times, restricted clinical indications, plateauing success rates, and a notable incidence of peri-implantitis. This review explores the biological merits and constraints of microrough surfaces and evaluates the current landscape of nanofeatured dental implant surfaces, aiming to illuminate strategies for addressing existing impediments in implant therapy.

Background: Medication related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ), a rare side-effect of antiresorptive medications, is described as exposed bone in the oral cavity that lasts for at least 8 weeks. Most studies report a female predilection for MRONJ; these findings could be due to the increased use of antiresorptives in females, or due to inherent differences between male versus female patients.
