Nodding syndrome (NS) is a poorly understood form of childhood-onset epilepsy that is characterized by the pathognomonic ictal phenomenon of repetitive vertical head drops. To evaluate the underlying ictal neurophysiology, ictal EEG features were evaluated in nine participants with confirmed NS from South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda and ictal presence of high frequency gamma oscillations on scalp EEG were assessed. Ictal EEG during the head nodding episode predominantly showed generalized slow waves or sharp-and-slow wave complexes followed by electrodecrement.

Objectives: This study examines fetuses with tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and evaluates the right (RV) and left (LV) ventricular contractility and LV function using speckle-tracking analysis of the endocardium.

Methods: The study group consisted of 44 fetuses with TOF, of which 34% had pulmonary valve atresia (N = 15) and 59% (N = 26) had pulmonary valve stenosis. The RV and LV global fractional area change, longitudinal contractility (longitudinal strain, free wall strain, septal strain, free wall and septal annular fractional shortening, and free wall and septal wall annular plane systolic excursion), and transverse contractility (24-segment fractional shortening) as well as LV functional assessment (stroke volume, cardiac output, and ejection fraction) were measured using speckle-tracking analysis.

A 7-year-old cystic fibrosis patient with increased cough, new pulmonary infiltrate, and declining pulmonary function was diagnosed with clarithromycin resistant infection. Treatment was initiated with clofazimine, linezolid and cefoxitin; she responded well to therapy and achieved microbiological clearance after completion of 12-month treatment. One year later, she had re-emergence of worsening symptoms and her sputum culture again grew clarithromycin resistant .

Pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by many co-morbidities, including impaired growth and development, CKD-mineral and bone disorder, anemia, dysregulated iron metabolism, and cardiovascular disease. In pediatric CKD cohorts, higher circulating concentrations of fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) are associated with some of these adverse clinical outcomes, including CKD progression and left ventricular hypertrophy. It is hypothesized that lowering FGF23 levels will reduce the risk of these events and improve clinical outcomes.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to establish normal reference values obtained by fetal speckle tracking analysis of the fetal heart between 17 and 24 weeks of gestation among Thai fetuses and compare the nomograms with previous studies.
