Background And Aim: Dental trauma is a common public health issue that can be associated with high costs and lifelong treatment. Children and parents should have the correct information regarding its management to reduce the potential long-term sequelae. Understanding their information seeking behaviour is therefore important to ensure that they are able to access, understand and retain the relevant information.

Autoimmune mucocutaneous blistering diseases in the south of Italy: a 25-year retrospective study on 169 patients.

Background: Autoimmune mucocutaneous blistering diseases (AMBDs) represent a heterogeneous group of organ-specific and potentially life-threatening diseases. We sought to determine the relationship between clinical remission and therapeutic regimens with clinical type and phenotype of AMBDs, as well as clinical outcomes achieved based on different therapeutic regimens.

Methods: A retrospective single-center study on 169 AMBDs patients, including pemphigus vulgaris (PV), mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP), paraneoplastic autoimmune multiorgan syndrome (PAMS), and lichen planus pemphigoides (LPP), was performed from 1994 to 2019 in an oral medicine tertiary center, where we collected sociodemographic data, clinical type and phenotype, prescribed therapies, and related outcomes.

Validity and reliability of the Mouth Handicap of Systemic Sclerosis questionnaire in a UK population.

Background: The objective of this study was to explore the psychometric properties of the Mouth Handicap in Systemic Sclerosis (MHISS) specifically exploring aspects of validity and reliability of MHISS in UK SSc patients.

Methods: A total of 150 questionnaires were distributed in this study at the Oral Medicine Department of UCLHT Eastman Dental Hospital, the Outpatient Rheumatology Clinic of the Royal Free Hospital and Scleroderma Family Day. Participants were asked to complete three questionnaires (SF-36, OHIP-14 and MHISS) along with a pro forma of demographic and disease-specific questions.

Cardiovascular diseases are the worldwide leading cause of mortality. Cardiovascular diseases are noncommunicable conditions with a complex pathogenesis, and their clinical manifestations include major cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction and stroke. Epidemiologic evidence suggests a consistent association between periodontitis and increased risk of cardiovascular diseases.

The association of periodontal diseases with metabolic syndrome and obesity.

Periodontitis is a multifactorial chronic inflammatory disease associated with dysbiotic plaque biofilms and characterized by progressive destruction of the tooth-supporting apparatus. Objectives: To evaluate the responsiveness of measures of pain and oral health-related quality of life (OH-QoL) in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) and to determine thresholds for minimal important change (MIC) and minimal important difference (MID) for use in this patient population.

Methods: Data from baseline and 4-month follow-up including Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14), 15-item and 26-item Chronic Oral Mucosal Disease Questionnaire (COMDQ-15; COMDQ-26) were collected from 157 patients with OLP. Responsiveness was assessed by testing hypotheses and calculating the area under the curve.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate UK dentists' working practices on shade taking and to assess whether these clinical practices are in accordance with evidence-based guidelines.

In this work, a novel enzymatically crosslinked injectable hydrogel comprising hyaluronic acid (HyA), dopamine (DA), and 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl) propionic acid (HPA) conjugates was successfully developed. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time that HPA is conjugated to a HyA-based backbone. Our aim is to develop fluorescent mesoporous bioglass nanoparticles (fBGn) based on carbon dots (CD) with delivery, triple-mode imaging, and photothermal (PTT) properties for cancer theranostics. A direct and label-free approach was used to prepare multicolor fluorescent fBGn with 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane as the surface-functionalizing agent.

Pentraxin 3 (PTX3): A Molecular Marker of Endothelial Dysfunction in Chronic Migraine.

Even though endothelial dysfunction is known to play a role in migraine pathophysiology, studies regarding levels of endothelial biomarkers in migraine have controversial results. Our aim was to evaluate the role of pentraxin 3 (PTX3) and soluble tumour necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (sTWEAK) as potential biomarkers of endothelial dysfunction in chronic migraine (CM). We performed a case-control study including 102 CM patients and 28 control subjects and measured serum levels of markers of endothelial dysfunction (PTX3 and sTWEAK) and inflammation [high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP)] as well as brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD) during interictal periods.

Combining and models to inform cell seeding strategies in tissue engineering.

The seeding density of therapeutic cells in engineered tissue impacts both cell survival and vascularization. Excessively high seeded cell densities can result in increased death and thus waste of valuable cells, whereas lower seeded cell densities may not provide sufficient support for the tissue , reducing efficacy. Additionally, the production of growth factors by therapeutic cells in low oxygen environments offers a way of generating growth factor gradients, which are important for vascularization, but hypoxia can also induce unwanted levels of cell death.

Importantly, we used clinical isolates of bacterial strains, a protocol to mimic the environmental conditions of a real exposure in the healthcare setting, and low light intensity equivalent to that encountered in UK hospitals (∼500 lux).
