Migrant centres, as other institutions hosting closed or semi-open communities, may face specific challenges in preventing and controlling communicable disease transmission, particularly during times of large sudden influx. However, there is dearth of evidence on how to prioritise investments in aspects such as human resources, medicines and vaccines, sanitation and disinfection, and physical infrastructures to prevent/control communicable disease outbreaks. Transforming growth factor-β (TGFβ)-activated kinase 1 (TAK1) plays a central role in controlling the cellular pro-inflammatory response via the activation of the nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)- and mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases-dependent transcriptional programs. In the present study we have used genome-wide SNP array data to evaluate genomic diversity within the Kerry population and between Kerry cattle and other European breeds. Patterns of genetic differentiation and gene flow among breeds using phylogenetic trees with ancestry graphs highlighted historical gene flow from the British Shorthorn breed into the ancestral population of modern Kerry cattle.

The recovery of high quality RNA from postmortem tissue is crucial to gene expression analyses. The acquisition of postmortem tissue has inherent time delays and, hence, understanding the temporal variation in the stability of total RNA is imperative. This experiment aimed: ( 1 ) to qualitatively and quantitatively assess the integrity of total RNA derived from a range of new-born ovine tissues (liver, spleen, thyroid, skeletal muscle, ileum, and perirenal adipose tissue) which were stored at ambient temperature until extraction at 0, 3, 6, and 9 h postmortem; and ( 2 ) to analyze the stability of the reference gene(s) and expression of specific target genes in these tissues.
