Introduction: Malrotation of the tibial components in total knee arthroplasties is a common cause of pain and functional impairment. There are multiple methods used to establish the tibial component rotation, but there is still no consensus which method is the best. The objective of this study was to compare two of the most commonly used techniques, that is the use of self-alignment during passive range of motion (free-floating technique) versus the anterior cortex referencing method (Curve-on-curve technique).

Extraction of organic and bioactive compounds from plant materials with the traditional organic solvents aided by water or oil bath heating is not sustainable, because it consumes a lot of energy, time, water/oil, solvents, and results in lower yield. This review discusses deep eutectic solvent (DES) as a green solvent, physical field technology (PFT) as a water-saving and green technology, and how the coupling of PFT (ultrasound [US], microwave [MW], infrared [IR]) to DES will improve the yield and quality of protein, polysaccharides, polyphenols, pectin, and terpenoids extracted from plant materials. Ultrasonication increases DES extraction efficiency via cavitation dislodgement and pores creation.

The COVID-19 epidemic has had a significant worldwide impact, requiring measures such as quarantine, social isolation, and the closing down of educational institutions, increasing concerns about student safety. This study evaluated the mental health and sleep status of 201 college students in the UAE after the epidemic. The sample consisted primarily of females (72.

The definition of hyperfiltration, the main pathogenesis in renal impairment in obesity and diabetes mellitus, is uncertain. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) declines physiologically with aging, and there is inaccuracy in GFR in obesity due to body surface area (BSA) correction. Here, we defined hyperfiltration using GFR without BSA correction, but with inclusion of aging, and investigated hyperfiltration using this definition and absolute GFR > 125 mL/min.

Hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (PHD) inhibitors have been approved for treating renal anemia yet have failed clinical testing for inflammatory bowel disease because of a lack of efficacy. Here we used a multimodel multimodal generative artificial intelligence platform to design an orally gut-restricted selective PHD1 and PHD2 inhibitor that exhibits favorable safety and pharmacokinetic profiles in preclinical studies. ISM012-042 restores intestinal barrier function and alleviates gut inflammation in multiple experimental colitis models.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine changes in procedural utilization for symptomatic uterine fibroids and adenomyosis from 2011 to 2020.
Methods: An institutional review board-exempt retrospective study of the National Inpatient Sample database from 2011 to 2020 was performed using International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, and International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, diagnosis and procedural codes for uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, hysterectomy, myomectomy, uterine artery embolization (UAE), and endometrial ablation. Patients with endometriosis, uterine cancer, placenta accreta spectrum, pelvic inflammatory disease, and uterine prolapse were excluded.

Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKIs) are a new class of drugs used in the treatment of a heterogeneous group of diseases, mainly inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Janus kinase (JAK) is a family of non-receptor tyrosine kinases in cells that transduce cytokine-mediated signals. JAK, along with signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) protein, mediate important cellular processes such as immune response, carcinogenesis, cell differentiation, cell division, and cell death.

Over 768 million cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported worldwide, with pregnant women being the most vulnerable members of society during such an infectious disease outbreak. In the United Arab Emirates, there are limited studies explaining the effects of COVID-19 on pregnant women and their fetuses. In this study, the maternal and fetal outcomes in pregnant women with COVID-19 in a tertiary maternal hospital, United Arab Emirates, were examined.

Methods effectively extracting proteins contained in AP cells are demanded to provide a supply of the material. Water-based extraction methods are advisable due to the high solubility of the PBP.

Background: Tooth agenesis refers to the absence of one or more of the deciduous or permanent teeth. Tooth agenesis results from a series of disrupted reciprocal ectodermal mesenchymal interactions taking place during the early stages of tooth development.
Methods: A narrative literature review was performed to describe the main genetic syndromes associated with tooth agenesis.

The intricate interplay between viruses and hosts involves microRNAs (miRNAs) to regulate gene expression by targeting cellular/viral messenger RNAs (mRNAs). Mouse mammary tumour virus (MMTV), the aetiological agent of breast cancer and leukaemia/lymphomas in mice, provides an ideal model to explore how viral and host miRNAs interact to modulate virus replication and tumorigenesis. We previously reported dysregulation of host miRNAs in MMTV-infected mammary glands and MMTV-induced tumours, suggesting a direct interaction between MMTV and miRNAs.

The ongoing increase in the prevalence of obesity and its comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes (T2D) and dyslipidemia warrants discovery of novel therapeutic options for these metabolic diseases. Obesity is characterized by white adipose tissue expansion due to chronic positive energy balance as a result of excessive energy intake and/or reduced energy expenditure. Despite various efforts to prevent or reduce obesity including lifestyle and behavioral interventions, surgical weight reduction approaches and pharmacological methods, there has been limited success in significantly reducing obesity prevalence.

Background: Accurate detection of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) depends on adequate laboratory capacity. We aimed to document key weaknesses hindering AMR detection at various tiers of laboratory networks in 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, and analyse their significance in AMR surveillance and policies.
Methods: In this analysis, we obtained retrospective data on AMR and antimicrobial consumption from 14 countries participating in the Mapping Antimicrobial Resistance and Antimicrobial Use Partnership between May 1, 2019, and June 30, 2020.

The Plasmodium falciparum cytoplasmic tyrosine tRNA synthetase (PfTyrRS) is an attractive drug target that is susceptible to reaction-hijacking by AMP-mimicking nucleoside sulfamates. We previously identified an exemplar pyrazolopyrimidine ribose sulfamate, ML901, as a potent reaction hijacking inhibitor of PfTyrRS. Here we examined the stage specificity of action of ML901, showing very good activity against the schizont stage, but lower trophozoite stage activity.

Thyroid eye disease (TED), also known as thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy, is an autoimmune disorder caused due to a complex interplay between autoantigens including the thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor and the insulin-like growth factor-I receptor. TED is characterized by progressive proptosis or diplopia. This systematic review aimed to compare the efficacy of the newer monoclonal antibody - teprotumumab and intravenous methylprednisolone (IVMP) in TED patients.
