Perceived Experiences and Needs of Digital Resources Among Postpartum Women in the United Arab Emirates: Qualitative Focus Group Study.

Background: The postpartum period is a critical phase in a woman's life, marked by various physical, psychological, and social challenges. In light of the rapid proliferation and uptake of digital technologies, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), mothers increasingly seek informational and emotional support from digital resources. No previous study has thoroughly explored the usage of various digital resources beyond telehealth services in the UAE.

A common form of dominant human IFNAR1 deficiency impairs IFN-α and -ω but not IFN-β-dependent immunity.

Autosomal recessive deficiency of the IFNAR1 or IFNAR2 chain of the human type I IFN receptor abolishes cellular responses to IFN-α, -β, and -ω, underlies severe viral diseases, and is globally very rare, except for IFNAR1 and IFNAR2 deficiency in Western Polynesia and the Arctic, respectively. We report 11 human IFNAR1 alleles, the products of which impair but do not abolish responses to IFN-α and -ω without affecting responses to IFN-β. Ten of these alleles are rare in all populations studied, but the remaining allele (P335del) is common in Southern China (minor allele frequency ≈2%).

Statistical fractal analysis in testing the Hypotheses with imprecise data.

A new statistical hypothesis testing procedure using fractal analysis, incorporating the concept of lacunarity for interval population parameters when the sample data are real intervals, is introduced. The decision rules for accepting or rejecting the null and alternative hypotheses are provided, along with testing procedures and numerical examples. Additionally, the proposed tests are extended to statistical hypotheses involving fuzzy data samples with lacunarity.

Chronic Inflammatory Markers in Overweight and Obese Children: A Cross-sectional Analytical Study.

Introduction: Childhood obesity is associated with chronic low-grade systemic inflammation, which results in obesity-related comorbidities. This study compared the inflammatory markers between obese and normal children and assessed obesity-related comorbidities.

Methods: In this cross-sectional analytical study, 40 obese children between 5-18 years of age were recruited as cases, and an equal number of age and gender-matched normal children as the control.

Embolisation of an acquired uterine arteriovenous malformation.

A G5P2+2 woman in her 30s presented to hospital with per vaginum (PV) bleeding, approximately 2 weeks post electric vacuum aspiration (EVA) for retained products of conception. Ultrasound and MRI demonstrated a large vascular myometrial lesion, suggestive of a uterine arteriovenous malformation (UAVM). The main objectives of this study were to: (i) evaluate the food safety knowledge, attitudes, commitment (involving affective, continuance, and normative types), and practices of students studying subjects related to food sciences in Jordanian universities and (ii) examine the impact of knowledge and attitude on commitment, and subsequently, on relevant practices using structural equation modeling.

Methods: A comprehensive search in Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases until October 2023 targeted occupational health studies in the GCC, adhering to PRISMA guidelines and NIH Quality Assessment Tools.

Open label vancomycin in primary sclerosing cholangitis-inflammatory bowel disease: improved colonic disease activity and associations with changes in host-microbiome-metabolomic signatures.

Background: We conducted a single-arm interventional study, to explore mucosal changes associated with clinical remission under oral vancomycin (OV) treatment, in primary sclerosing cholangitis associated inflammatory bowel disease (PSC-IBD); NCT05376228.

Method: Fifteen patients with PSC and active colitis (median faecal calprotectin 459µg/g; median total Mayo score 5) were treated with OV (125mg QID) for 4 weeks and followed-up for a further 4 weeks of treatment withdrawal (8 weeks, end-of-study). Colonic biopsies were obtained at baseline and week 4.

Metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS), initially for severe obesity (BMI ≥35 kg/m), is performed globally over 500 000 times annually, offering significant metabolic benefits beyond weight loss. However, varying eligibility criteria globally impact patient care and healthcare resources.

Sustained response to guselkumab regardless of baseline characteristics in patients with active psoriatic arthritis and inadequate response to TNF inhibitors: results from the phase 3b COSMOS clinical trial.

Objectives: To prospectively evaluate the effect of guselkumab through 48 weeks across various clinical outcomes in subgroups of patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and inadequate response to tumour necrosis factor inhibitors (TNFi-IR) from the phase 3b COSMOS trial. Subgroups were defined by baseline demographics, disease characteristics and prior/ongoing therapies.

Methods: Patients with active PsA (tender joint count (TJC) and swollen joint count (SJC) both ≥3) and TNFi-IR were randomised 2:1 to receive guselkumab 100 mg at week 0, week 4, then every 8 weeks through week 44 or to placebo with cross-over to guselkumab 100 mg at week 16 (early escape) or week 24 (planned).

Lumbar spine coronal balance parameters as a predictor of rehabilitation management outcomes in patients with radiculopathy due to lumbar disc herniation: A multicenter prospective case series study.

This prospective consecutive case series was conducted in 5 physiotherapy clinics in the UAE from January 2021-March 2023 to assess coronal lumbar spine radiographic parameters as a predictor of conservative therapy outcomes in patients suffering from low back and leg pain due to lumbar herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP). Ninety patients (mean age 44 yrs., 54 % male) with lumbar HNP underwent conservative therapy.
