A recent study reported exaggerated false positives by popular differential expression methods when analyzing large population samples. We reproduce the differential expression analysis simulation results and identify a caveat in the data generation process. Data not truly generated under the null hypothesis led to incorrect comparisons of benchmark methods.

This review investigates the effectiveness of utilizing foreign physicians or International Medical Graduates to alleviate medical shortages in rural and underserved areas of developed countries. Conducted in February 2024, this systematic review follows PRISMA 2020 guidelines, analysing 15 English-language studies from the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The focus is on comparing physicians with international graduation to national graduates in rural and underserved contexts.

Background: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been associated with volume alterations of stress-related brain structures among aging and clinical populations, however, existing studies have predominantly assessed only one type of ACE, with small sample sizes, and it is less clear if these associations exist among a general population of young adults.
Objective: The aims were to describe structural hippocampal volumetric differences by ACEs exposure and investigate the association between ACEs exposure and left and right hippocampal volume in a student sample of young adults.
Methods: 959 young adult students (18-24 years old) completed an online questionnaire on ACEs, mental health conditions, and sociodemographic characteristics.

Purpose: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-type endotoxins are naturally found in the gut microbiota and there is emerging evidence linking gut microbiota and neuroinflammation leading to retinal neurodegeneration. Thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) is a biomarker of retinal neurodegeneration, and a hallmark of glaucoma, the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. We assessed the association of a blood biomarker of LPS with peripapillary RNFL thickness (RNFLT) and its longitudinal evolution up to 11 years.

Introduction: Adverse childhood events (ACEs) have been linked to widespread chronic pain (CP) in various cross-sectional studies, mainly in clinical populations. However, the independent role of different ACEs on the development of different types of CP remains elusive. Accordingly, we aimed to prospectively assess the associations between specific types of ACEs with the development of multisite CP in a large population-based cohort.

In this article, we present a joint modeling approach for zero-inflated longitudinal count measurements and time-to-event outcomes. For the longitudinal sub-model, a mixed effects Hurdle model is utilized, incorporating various distributional assumptions such as zero-inflated Poisson, zero-inflated negative binomial, or zero-inflated generalized Poisson. For the time-to-event sub-model, a Cox proportional hazard model is applied.

Background: Nursing homes in the Caribbean are scarce and the characteristics of their residents have not been previously documented. This study aimed to describe the clinical profiles of residents living in nursing homes in Guadeloupe and Martinique (French West Indies).
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of the baseline screening data from the KASEHPAD (Karukera Study of Ageing in nursing homes) study.

Objective And Design: Neuroinflammation is a protective mechanism but can become harmful if chronic and/or unregulated, leading to neuronal damage and cognitive alterations. Limiting inflammation and promoting resolution could be achieved with nutrients such as grapes and blueberries polyphenols, saffron carotenoids, and omega-3, which have anti-inflammatory and proresolutive properties.
Methods: This study explored the impact of 18-day supplementation with plant extracts (grape, blueberry and saffron), omega-3 or both (mix) on neuroinflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 250 µg/kg) in 149 mice at different time points post-LPS treatment (30 min, 2 h, 6 h).

Background: Diet is a major route of exposure to potentially neurotoxic chemicals, yet the epidemiological association of diet contaminants with dementia is unknown. We studied the link between dietary exposure to multiple chemicals and dementia risk in older persons, considering interaction with dietary fat content, which may modify the bioavailability and toxicity of (lipophilic) chemicals.
Methods: We included 1,288 non-demented participants from the French Three-City cohort who answered a food frequency questionnaire and 24-hour recall at baseline and were followed for incident dementia.

Purpose: In the last decade trastuzumab biosimilars became more and more frequent. Among their uses, from several years, they have been available in Europe for the treatment of HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer, as an alternative to Herceptin®.
Methods/patients: This meta-analysis aimed to analyze the available literature with particular focus on phase 3 randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing adverse events between trastuzumab biosimilar and originator.

Objectives: French dentists charge additional fees for dental prostheses. This paper aims to provide new information on the determinants of dental price setting and inform public decision-making in the context of the widespread rejection of prosthetic dental care for financial reasons. We focus on the competitive mechanism in the dental prosthetics market and measure the impact of the density of professionals and competitors' prices on the fees charged by dentists.
