Background: Nurse retention is a major concern in healthcare settings, especially among intensive care units (ICU), in which nurses are highly specialized. The objective was to describe the nurse courses after their entrance into the ICU, their motivation for leaving the ICU, and to identify the independent factors that influenced the nurse resignation from their units.
Methods: In 3 different centers, every ICU nurse working between 2013 and 2023 was telephonically contacted and was asked to describe their career and, when appropriate, the reasons that influenced their resignation from their units; they rated on a Likert scale of 14 factors that influenced their decision.

This report presents an extremely rare case of fungal mycotic aneurysm due to Magnusiomyces capitatus in a 51-year-old immunocompromised woman. The diagnosis was based on multiple CT-scans and various samples positive for the pathogen identified by sequencing of the Internal Transcribed Spacer region. Long-term treatment using caspofungin for previous candidemia would have promoted the dissemination of this intrinsically echinocandin-resistant fungus, from colonization sites in the lung and rectal areas.

In relation to ancient infections, a substantial number of retroviral sequences with persistent immunogenic potential were integrated within the human genome (HERVs). Under physiological conditions, coding sequences from HERVs can participate in cell/tissue homeostasis and physiological functions in an epigenetically controlled manner. However, HERV expression is susceptible to contribute to various pathologies, including autoinflammatory and autoimmune disorders, when reprogrammed by exogenous stimuli such as drugs or microbial infections.

Objective: Slow-paced breathing (SPB) with prolonged exhalation is assumed to stimulate vagal reflexes, which is represented by increased heart rate variability (HRV) values. However, most trials were conducted in healthy participants. We sought to evaluate the feasibility of SPB in hospitalized patients with confirmed bilateral COVID-19 pneumonia with major respiratory impairment and to investigate if SPB shows acute increasing effects on HRV measures in these severely ill patients with distinctly reduced vagal tone.

The baboon endogenous retrovirus (BaEV) glycoprotein is superior to the commonly used vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein (VSVg) for retroviral gene transfer into resting hematopoietic stem cells and lymphocyte populations. The derivative BaEVRLess (lacking the R domain) produces higher viral titers compared with wild-type BaEV, but vector production is impaired by syncytia formation and cell death of the HEK293T cells due to the high fusogenic activity of the glycoprotein. This lowers viral titers, leads to increased batch-to-batch variability, and impedes the establishment of stable packaging cell lines essential for the economical production of viral supernatants.

Objective: To use a pre-COVID-19 birth cohort database to describe the clinical heterogeneity of severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) cases of the past seasons as a basis to investigate further distribution of clinical phenotypes in the era of immunization for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
Study Design: Infants with RSV-SARI were identified from a 2014 through 2019 birth cohort in a tertiary care center in Lyon, France, and their medical records extensively reviewed. Using the criteria of the World Health Organization severity definitions, we classified SARI as having nutritional (inability to feed), respiratory (SpO<93%), or neurological (failure to respond, apneas) impairments.

The importance of metabolic pathways in regulating immune responses is now well established, and a mapping of the bioenergetic metabolism of different immune cell types is under way. CD8 T cells and natural killer (NK) cells contribute to cancer immunosurveillance through their cytotoxic functions and secretion of cytokines and chemokines, complementing each other in target recognition mechanisms. Several immunotherapies leverage these cell types by either stimulating their activity or redirecting their specificity against tumour cells.

Introduction: Australian breast cancer survivors are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality, partly due to behavioural risk factors, including unhealthy diet and physical inactivity. Guidelines recommend health promotion delivered by general practitioners (GPs), but resources (ie, time and funding) are limited. Text message interventions sent from general practice to survivors may offer a low-resource solution but have not been evaluated.

Introduction: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has the potential to infect various animals, including domestic pets like dogs and cats. Many studies have documented infection in companion animals by molecular and serological methods. However, only a few have compared seroprevalence in cats and dogs from the general population, and these studies were limited by small sample sizes and collections over short periods.

The benefits of screening for cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection during pregnancy remain a topic of debate. To date, no randomized trial has compared the impact of screening versus routine management on the prevention of severe sequelae in newborns. Furthermore, it is unclear what actions can be taken in case of a positive screening given that there is limited evidence of effective interventions as no treatments showed significant effect on the frequency of congenital cytomegalovirus infections and, as additional challenge, the window for effective treatment initiation after maternal infection is narrow, estimated to be as short as five weeks.

Purpose: Brown adipose tissue (BAT), located in the supraclavicular region, has been associated with a better cardiometabolic profile and reduced risk of developing non-communicable chronic diseases (NCD), in addition to being associated with a healthier phenotype in obesity. However, it is unknown whether greater supraclavicular adipose tissue activity could be associated with a healthier metabolic profile in people already diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Thus, the present work evaluated if supraclavicular adipose tissue activity is associated with metabolic and molecular markers in individuals with T2DM.

Several Old World and New World Mammarenavirus are responsible for hemorrhagic fever in humans. These enveloped viruses have a bi-segmented ambisense RNA genome that encodes four proteins. All Mammarenavirus identified to date share a common dependency on myristoylation: the addition of the C14 myristic acid on the N-terminal G2 residue on two of their proteins.
