Since end of 2019, the global and unprecedented outbreak caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 led to dramatic numbers of infections and deaths worldwide. SARS-CoV-2 produces two large viral polyproteins which are cleaved by two cysteine proteases encoded by the virus, the 3CL protease (3CL) and the papain-like protease, to generate non-structural proteins essential for the virus life cycle. Both proteases are recognized as promising drug targets for the development of anti-coronavirus chemotherapy.

Mechanical properties of healthy and Dupuytren fibroblasts were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). In addition to standard force curves, rheological properties were assessed using an oscillatory testing methodology, in which the frequency was swept from 1 Hz to 1 kHz, and data were analyzed using the structural damping model. Dupuytren fibroblasts showed larger apparent Young's modulus values than healthy ones, which is in agreement with previous results.

Recently, the development of electronic devices to extracellularly record the simultaneous electrical activities of numerous neurons has been blooming, opening new possibilities to interface and decode neuronal activity. In this work, we tested how the use of EDOT electropolymerization to tune post-fabrication materials could optimize the cell/electrode interface of such devices. Our results showed an improved signal-to-noise ratio, better biocompatibility, and a higher number of neurons detected in comparison with gold electrodes.

The accumulation of senescent cells in tissues is a key process of aging and age-related diseases, including lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung fibrosis, or cancer. In recent years, the spectrum of respiratory diseases associated with cellular senescence has been broadened, in particular acute viral pulmonary infections, foremost among which is coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19), which is particularly severe in the elderly or in subjects with comorbidities. Influenza virus infection, which strikes more severely at the extreme ages of life, is also associated with severe pulmonary senescence.

Carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) are spreading rapidly in hospital settings.
