Background/aims: Pancreaticoduodenectomy is the standard treatment for periampullary tumors. One of the major causes of morbidity after pancreaticoduodenectomy is the failure of the healing at the pancreaticoenteric anastomosis. The aim of this study is to summarize the results of a new technique which is designed to decrease the panreticoje-junostomy anastomotic leakage.

Alveolar echinococcosis (AE) is a chronic and serious, even lethal, parasitic infection caused by the helminth Echinococcus multilocularis (EM). AE is an endemic disease in Turkey and it is particularly common in people living in the eastern Anatolia Region. In addition to various clinical presentations, symptoms which lead to diagnosis, however, are usually associated with the metastatic lesions.

Background/aims: There are several scoring systems designed to predict mortality in patients with peritonitis, which need validation in different patient populations. Our aim was to evaluate Mannheim Peritonitis Index (MPI) and Peritonitis Index of Altona (PIA II) in patients with postoperative peritonitis and other causes of secondary peritonitis.
Methodology: The records of patients operated for intraabdominal infection between 1987-1996 in Hacettepe University Department of General Surgery, were reviewed retrospectively.
