Far-ultraviolet C (far-UVC) light shows promise for pathogen control but its safety and efficacy for corneal disinfection remain unclear. In this study, safe far-UVC dosages were investigated for corneal disinfection and its germicidal performance and oxidative damage potential to 5% povidone-iodine (PVP-I) were compared. Rat corneas were exposed to varying 222 nm far-UVC doses (3-60 mJ/cm) and assessed for ocular damage, apoptosis, and oxidative stress to determine the safe dose of far-UVC.

Bladder cancer (BCa) is a significant health issue and poses a healthcare burden on patients, highlighting the importance of an effective detection method. Here, we developed a urine DNA methylation diagnostic panel for distinguishing between BCa and non-BCa. In the discovery stage, an analysis of the TCGA database was conducted to identify BCa-specific DNA hypermethylation markers.

Background: Basal cell carcinoma (BCC), the most common skin cancer in humans, requires early detection. Dermoscopy enhances diagnostic accuracy through a noninvasive approach. Pigmented BCC (pBCC) is characterized by distinctive dermoscopic features, including the presence of pigmented globules or nests.

Objectives: Alopecia is a soft but meaningful complaint affecting women's physical and psychological health. Female alopecia (FA) has diverse etiologies. Nonetheless, FA is stereotyped as female pattern hair loss, also known as female androgenetic alopecia, and has not been thoroughly investigated.

Disseminated herpes zoster (DHZ), resulting from the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), typically occurs in immunocompromised persons. To date, only four cases of DHZ following mRNA, viral vector, or inactivated COVID-19 vaccinations have been reported in immunocompetent patients. Herein, we present the first case of DHZ following the protein subunit COVID-19 vaccination (case 1, 64 years old) and a case of DHZ following mRNA COVID-19 vaccination (case 2, 67 years old) in elderly, immunocompetent male patients.

Ribociclib, a cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitor, is a novel targeted therapy for advanced-stage breast cancer. Although ribociclib-induced cutaneous side effects have been previously noted, they have not been well documented. Herein, we present a case of ribociclib-induced phototoxicity, which manifested as dyschromia over sun-exposed forearms and neck initially and as bullae formation subsequently.

Objectives: Orthopedic implants have improved the quality of life in aging society but also induces several kinds of tissue reactions, referred to as orthopedic implant hypersensitivity (OIH). The aim of our study is to report the clinical characteristics of OIH and the effects of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) on these groups of patients.
Materials And Methods: We collected cases that complained of skin rashes with pruritus after orthopedic implants from January 2017 to June 2022 at the Dermatology clinic in Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital.

Erinacine A (EA), a natural neuroprotectant, is isolated from a Chinese herbal medicine, Hericium erinaceus. The aim of this study was to investigate the neuroprotective effects of EA in a rat model of traumatic optic neuropathy. The optic nerves (ONs) of adult male Wistar rats were crushed using a standardized method and divided into three experimental groups: phosphate-buffered saline (PBS control)-treated group, standard EA dose-treated group (2.

Bowen's disease, a form of skin cancer, is an intraepithelial carcinoma involving keratinocytes. It is associated with a risk of developing invasive squamous cell carcinoma in 3-5% of cases. Ultraviolet exposure, arsenic, human papillomavirus infection, immunosuppression, and genetic factors have been reported to be the causes.

Optic nerve head (ONH) infarct can result in progressive retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death. The granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (GCSF) protects the RGC after ON infarct. However, protective mechanisms of the GCSF after ONH infarct are complex and remain unclear.

An ischemic insult at optic nerve (ON) is followed by detrimental neuroinflammation that results in progressive and long-lasting retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death and vision loss. Icariin was reported to be a safe and effective natural anti-inflammatory drug. Herein, we evaluated the long-term therapeutic effects of a single intravitreal injection of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) PLGA-icariin in a rat model of anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (rAION).

Traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) may cause severe visual loss following direct or indirect head trauma which may result in optic nerve injuries and therefore contribute to the subsequent loss of retinal ganglion cells by inflammatory mediators and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) provides the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative actions but has a short half-life and also induces leukocytosis upon typical systemic administration. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the anti-oxidative response and neuroprotective effects of long-acting pegylated human G-CSF (PEG-G-CSF) in a rat model of optic nerve crush (ONC).

Women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) have been reported to develop chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU). Nevertheless, whether or not AUB women have an increased risk of CSU has not been examined in large-scale epidemiologic studies. This study aimed to investigate the risk of CSU among reproductive-aged women with AUB.

The Tolosa-Hunt syndrome (THS) is caused by granulomatous inflammation in the cavernous sinus, superior orbital fissure, or orbit characterized by painful ophthalmoplegia. Here, we report a case of recurrent THS in a 48-year-old female, who initially showed a poor response to low-dose steroids. Each episode involved different cranial nerves and painful ophthalmoplegia.

Neuroendocrine prostate cancer (NEPC) is the most lethal malignancy of prostate cancer (PCa). Treatment with next-generation androgen receptor (AR) pathway inhibitors (ARPIs) has successfully extended patients' lifespan. However, with the emergence of drug resistance, PCa tumors increasingly adapt to potent ARPI therapies by transitioning to alternative cellular lineage.

Nurses' care nurse-patient interaction (CNPI) competence is critical for improving nursing care quality. The focus is the psychological quality of nurses, which may be derived from their sense of well-being. The purpose of this study was to develop a conceptual model of nurses' well-being and their CNPI competence.

: One of the most common metabolic defects in cancers is the deficiency in arginine synthesis, which has been exploited therapeutically. Yet, challenges remain, and the mechanisms of arginine-starvation induced killing are largely unclear. Here, we sought to demonstrate the underlying mechanisms by which arginine starvation-induced cell death and to develop a dietary arginine-restriction xenograft model to study the effects.
