Choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to Nd:YAG laser macular injury consists of a rare condition without standardized treatment. Herein, we present the long-term outcomes of a case with a spontaneous closure of a laser-associated macular hole that was followed by late-onset CNV and was successfully treated with intravitreal ranibizumab. A 32-year-old man suffered a macula injury in his right eye after accidental exposure to an 800-nm wave length Nd:YAG laser pulse.

Background: The SAVE-MORE trial demonstrated that anakinra treatment in COVID-19 pneumonia with plasma soluble urokinase plasminogen activator (suPAR) levels of 6 ng/mL or more was associated with 0.36 odds for a worse outcome compared to placebo when expressed by the WHO-Clinical Progression Scale (CPS) at day 28. Herein, we report the results of subgroup analyses and long-term outcomes.

Objectives: Elevated concentrations of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) predict progression to severe respiratory failure (SRF) or death among patients with COVID-19 pneumonia and guide early anakinra treatment. As suPAR testing may not be routinely available in every health-care setting, alternative biomarkers are needed. We investigated the performance of C-reactive protein (CRP), interferon gamma-induced protein-10 (IP-10) and TNF-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) for predicting SRF or death in COVID-19.

Chios mastic gum (CMG), the resin produced by the trunk of var Chia, has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes since antiquity. Despite the fact that species are widely distributed throughout the Mediterranean basin and in the circum-Mediterranean regions, CMG is a distinctive resin of the mastic trees grown exclusively in the southern part of the island of Chios. CMG has been used for centuries as a spice, a cosmetic, but its most important usage has been as a strong phytotherapeutic therapy, primarily for the management of gastrointestinal diseases.

Previous studies suggest an association between celiac disease and anorexia nervosa. Research has mainly focused on children and adolescents, and studies among adults are limited. The similar clinical manifestations that characterize both diseases can complicate the diagnosis, and a thorough diagnostic workup is necessary.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has posed obstacles to the delivery of diabetic foot care. In response to this remote healthcare services have been deployed offering monitoring, follow-up, and referral services to patients with diabetic foot ulcers and related conditions. Although, remote diabetic foot care has been studied before the COVID-19 pandemic as an alternative to in-person care, the peculiar situation of the pandemic, which dictates that remote care would be the sole available option for healthcare practitioners and patients, necessitates an evaluation of the relevant knowledge obtained since the beginning of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 outbreak.

Although severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) affects mainly the respiratory system, the gastrointestinal tract is also considered a site of viral activity. We hereby present the case of a 74-year-old male patient with the diagnosis of new-onset ulcerative colitis. One month earlier, the patient presented fever, running nose, and diarrhea and was tested positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Most patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) experience mild, non-specific symptoms, but many develop severe symptoms associated with an excessive inflammatory response. Elevated plasma concentrations of soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) provide early warning of progression to severe respiratory failure (SRF) or death, but access to suPAR testing may be limited. The Severe COvid Prediction Estimate (SCOPE) score, derived from circulating concentrations of C-reactive protein, D- dimers, interleukin-6, and ferritin among patients not receiving non-invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation during the SAVE-MORE study, offers predictive accuracy for progression to SRF or death within 14 days comparable to that of a suPAR concentration of ≥6 ng/mL (area under receiver operator characteristic curve 0.

Thyroid hormone has a differential action on healthy and ischemic heart. Triiodothyronine (T3) administration improved postischemic cardiac function while it limited apoptosis in experimentally induced ischemia. Thus, the present study investigated the potential effects of acute liothyronine (LT3) treatment in patients with anterior myocardial infarction.

The last few years important changes have occurred in the field of diabetes treatment. The priority in the therapy of patients with diabetes is not glycemic control per se rather an overall management of risk factors, while individualization of glycemic target is suggested. Furthermore, regulatory authorities now require evidence of cardiovascular (CV) safety in order to approve new antidiabetic agents.

Purpose: Studies have shown that bracing is an effective treatment for patients with idiopathic scoliosis. According to the current classification, almost all braces fall in the thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) category. Consequently, the generalization of scientific results is either impossible or misleading.
