Rhodatin (1), a meroterpenoid featuring a unique pentacyclic scaffold with both spiro and spiroketal centers, and five unusual acorane-type sesquiterpenoids, named rhodocoranes A-E (2-6, respectively), are the first natural products isolated from the basidiomycete Rhodotus palmatus. Their structures were elucidated by two-dimensional NMR experiments and HRESIMS, while the absolute configuration of the substance family was determined by Mosher's method utilizing 2. Rhodatin strongly inhibited hepatitis C virus, whereas 4 displayed cytotoxicity and selective antifungal activity.

In a given habitat, bacterial cells often experience recurrent exposures to the same environmental stimulus. The ability to memorize the past event and to adjust current behaviors can lead to efficient adaptation to the recurring stimulus. Enteroviruses are among the most common causes of viral meningitis. Enteroviral meningitis continues to represent diagnostic challenges, as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell numbers (a well validated diagnostic screening tool) may be normal in up to 15% of patients. 4-Hydroxypleurogrisein, a congener of the anticancer-lead compound pleurotin, as well as six further derivatives were isolated from the basidiomycete , strain MFLUCC 12-0451. The structures were elucidated utilizing high resolution electron spray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS) and 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral data and evaluated for their biological activities; for leucopleurotin, we provide Xray data. While most congeners showed moderate antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity, 4-hydroxypleurogrisein emerged as an inhibitor of hepatitis C virus infectivity in mammalian liver cells.

Lanyamycin (/), a secondary metabolite occurring as two epimers, was isolated from the myxobacterium , strain Soce 481. The structures of both epimers were elucidated from HRESIMS and 1D and 2D NMR data and the relative configuration of their macrolactone ring was assigned based on NOE and vicinal H NMR coupling constants and by calculation of a 3D model. Lanyamycin inhibited HCV infection into mammalian liver cells with an IC value of 11.

Methods: Two hundred eighty two patients with VZV reactivation that were hospitalized in the department of neurology in the time from 2005 to 2013 were retrospectively evaluated.

Cellular antiviral proteins interfere with distinct steps of replication cycles of viruses.
