Prevention of pregnancy complications related to the "great obstetrical syndromes" (preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, spontaneous preterm labor, and stillbirth) is a global research and clinical management priority. These syndromes share many common pathophysiological mechanisms that may contribute to altered placental development and function. The resulting adverse pregnancy outcomes are associated with increased maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality and increased post-partum risk of cardiometabolic disease.

Introduction: The 400 000 residents of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) experienced two distinct lockdowns aimed at mitigating the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. Analysing effects of these lockdowns on maternal and neonatal outcomes presents a valuable opportunity to assess the impact of pandemic-level restrictions on maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Aim: Evaluate the impacts of restrictions from two lockdown periods on maternal, birthing, and neonatal outcomes within a regional local health district.

Inter-reader reliability of a new scoring system for evaluating joint inflammation and enthesitis in whole body MRI (WBMRI) in juvenile idiopathic arthritis was tested. The scoring system grades 732 item-region combinations of bone marrow and soft tissue changes for commonly involved joints and entheseal sites. Five radiologists rated 17 WBMRI scans through an online rating platform.

These first Australian National Standards of Care for Childhood-onset Heart Disease (CoHD Standards) have been developed to inform the healthcare requirements for CoHD services and enable all Australian patients, families and carers impacted by CoHD (paediatric CoHD and adult congenital heart disease [ACHD]) to live their best and healthiest lives. The CoHD Standards are designed to provide the clarity and certainty required for healthcare services to deliver excellent, comprehensive, inclusive, and equitable CoHD care across Australia for patients, families and carers, and offer an iterative roadmap to the future of these services. The CoHD Standards provide a framework for excellent CoHD care, encompassing key requirements and expectations for whole-of-life, holistic and connected healthcare service delivery.

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) is a rare form of chronic pyelonephritis characterized by granulomatous tissue replacing renal parenchyma, primarily in adults. It's often linked to chronic obstruction, urolithiasis, and pyelonephritis, with rare associations with psoas abscess or fistula. A 15-year-old girl, initially treated conservatively for suspected pyelonephritis, underwent CT imaging due to non-response.

Biochemical recurrence following prostate cancer treatment is well-known, with predictable sites typically observed in the prostate bed, lymph nodes, or skeleton. The emergence of PSMA-PET scans has revealed the potential for early recurrence in non-conventional sites, including port site metastases. Our report presents a rare case of abdominal wall metastasis detected 97 months post-prostatectomy.

The treatment of a patient with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is best monitored with standardized and validated tools to measure joint changes over time. Treatment approaches are best indicated if the clinicians are aware of the structural status of the joint at a given time, especially in anatomically deep joints for which clinical assessment is limited. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is of utmost importance for assessment of deep joints and extra-articular soft tissue of the entire body for which ultrasound may be suboptimal.

Background: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) solutions containing low levels of glucose degradation products (GDPs) are associated with attenuation of peritoneal membrane injury and vascular complications. However, clinical benefits associated with neutral-pH, low-GDP (N-pH/L-GDP) solutions remain unclear.
Methods: Using data from the Australia and New Zealand Dialysis and Transplant Registry, we examined the associations between N-pH/L-GDP solutions and all-cause mortality, cause-specific mortality, transfer to haemodialysis (HD) for ≥30 days and PD peritonitis in adult incident PD patients in Australia and New Zealand between 1 January 2005 and 31 December 2020 using adjusted Cox regression analyses.

Penile strangulation from a foreign body is a rare presentation to the emergency department. It must be treated as soon as possible as any delay in management can lead to complications such as gangrene and amputation of the penis. There is no superior standard of care as each case needs to be managed individually depending on clinical findings.
