Background: This study aims to compare the complications and satisfaction associated with favorable allografts, Fresh Frozen Rib Graft (FFRG) and Irradiated Homologous Costal Cartilage (IHCC), in revision rhinoplasty.

Methods: The PRISMA guidelines were adhered to in the conduct of this systematic review. No limitations were applied to the types of studies included.

Biomechanical comparison of the efficacy of Cfr-PEEK and titanium systems in the fixation following sagittal split advancement osteotomy: a biomechanical study.

Background: This study evaluates the efficacy of carbon fiber reinforced Polyetheretherketone (Cfr-PEEK) in fixation after sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) by comparing it with titanium in vitro.

Methods: Twenty-eight sheep hemimandibles were randomly assigned to four groups for SSRO surgery. Fixation was performed with a 4-hole titanium mini plate for 5 mm advancement in Group 1, with a 4-hole Cfr-PEEK mini plate for 5 mm advancement for Group 2, with a 4-hole titanium mini plate for 10 mm advancement for Group 3, and with a 4-hole Cfr-PEEK mini plate for 10 mm advancement for Group 4.

Evaluation of the location of posterior superior alveolar artery and infraorbital foramen originating from the same source by using cone beam computed tomography.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence, location and diameters of Posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) and Infraorbital foramen (IOF) to find out whether there is any relationship between PSAA and IOF, and to predict their location relative to each other in surgical procedures by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Material And Method: Bilateral maxillary sinuses were analysed retrospectively in 170 patients with no missing teeth in the maxillary posterior region. The largest locations of PSAA and IOF in the maxillary sinus were determined and their size, shape, location in relation to the teeth and distances from anatomical points were evaluated.

Liver transplant recipients experience many uncertainties after transplantation. Also, sleep problems are common among them. This study aimed to examine intolerance of uncertainty and sleep quality in liver transplant recipients.

Prediction model for severe vesicoureteral reflux in children with urinary tract infection and/or hydronephrosis.

Background: As voiding cystourethrography is invasive and exposes to radiation and urinary tract infection (UTI), identifying only high-grade reflux is important. We aimed to identify clinical, laboratory and imaging variables associated with high-grade primary reflux in children presenting with UTIs and/or urinary tract dilatation and develop a prediction model for severe reflux.

Methods: Data of children who underwent voiding cystourethrography due to UTI and/or urinary tract dilatation were retrospectively analyzed for demographic, clinical and imaging findings.

Common diagnoses in SIRVA patients include shoulder bursitis (all classified as subacromial bursitis), adhesive capsulitis, and rotator cuff injuries such as tears or tendinopathy.

Highly Potent New Probiotic Strains from Traditional Turkish Fermented Foods.

Traditional Turkish fermented foods like boza, pickles, and tarhana are recognized for their nutritional and health benefits, yet the probiotic potential of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains isolated from them remains underexplored. Sixty-six LAB strains were isolated from fermented foods using bacterial morphology, Gram staining, and catalase activity. The isolates were differentiated at strain level by RAPD-PCR (Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA-Polymerase Chain Reaction) and twenty-five strains were selected for further evaluation of acid and bile salt tolerance.

However, in recent years the epistemic authority of science has been challenged, causing concerns about low public trust in scientists.

Science is integral to society because it can inform individual, government, corporate, and civil society decision-making on issues such as public health, new technologies or climate change. Yet, public distrust and populist sentiment challenge the relationship between science and society. To help researchers analyse the science-society nexus across different geographical and cultural contexts, we undertook a cross-sectional population survey resulting in a dataset of 71,922 participants in 68 countries.

Anti-angiogenic effects of cationic zinc (II) phthalocyanine derivatives through photodynamic therapy.

In this study, the in vitro photodynamic therapy (PDT) activity of two zinc phthalocyanines (ZnPc1 and ZnPc2) was systematically examined in human umbilical vein endothelial cells, focusing on PDT-induced cytotoxicity, reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, and inhibition of angiogenic processes. Both the ZnPcs demonstrated minimal cytotoxicity in the absence of light, confirming their safety as photosensitizers. ZnPc-PDT led to significant cell death via apoptosis.

Relationships Between the Infrapatellar Fat Pad and Patellofemoral Joint Osteoarthritis Differ With Body Mass Index and Sex.

The role of the infrapatellar fat pad (IPFP) in knee osteoarthritis is not understood. This study aimed to identify relationships between MRI-based signal abnormalities in the IPFP and measures of structural pathology and symptom severity in PFJOA, as well as investigate the influence of obesity and sex on these relationships. Seventy participants (ages 28-80) with isolated PFJOA underwent bilateral knee MRI scan acquisitions and completed the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS).

Comparison of long-term clinical and radiologic outcomes of AperFix and fixed loop device fixation in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: A retrospective study.

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction aims to improve knee stability and range of motion. The AperFix system consists of polymer components, and fixed-loop fixation is an established endoscopic technique. Our aim in this study was to compare the long-term clinical and radiological results of AperFix and fixed-loop fixation and to prove that the long-term results of the AperFix fixation method are at least as good as those of the fixed loop device.

Current trends in pain management: A bibliometric analysis for the 1980-to-2023 period.

There is currently no bibliometric analysis available regarding pain management (PM). The aim of this study was to monitor the advancement of the PM research field, demonstrate global productivity, identify the most highly cited studies, delineate collaborations between research areas and countries, and uncover new research topics and intriguing trends. A total of 16,216 articles on the subject of PM published between 1980 and 2023 were downloaded from the Web of Science database and analyzed using various bibliometric analysis methods.

A brief examination of literature on adult cystic fibrosis: An emerging topic.

Cystic fibrosis (CF), a historically fatal childhood disease, now became a manageable adulthood disease. The transition of the disease to adulthood and the patients to adult physicians raised a new question: What is the extent of adult physicians' contributions to CF literature? We examined the data of all CF publications from Web of Sciences between 1945 and 2023. We determined the adult CF articles by searching for the term "adult" in titles.

Hypotonic Swelling Method for the Isolation of Pure Mitochondria From Primary Human Skeletal Myoblasts for Proteomic Studies.

Mitochondria play a fundamental role in energy metabolism, particularly in high-energy-demand tissues such as skeletal muscle. Understanding the proteomic composition of mitochondria in these cells is crucial for elucidating the mechanisms underlying muscle physiology and pathology. However, effective isolation of mitochondria from primary human skeletal muscle cells has been challenging due to the complex cellular architecture and the propensity for contamination with other organelles.

Thalamic Magnetic Susceptibility (χ) Alterations in Neurodegenerative Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping Studies.

Background: Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM) provides a non-invasive post-processing method to investigate alterations in magnetic susceptibility (χ), reflecting iron content within brain regions implicated in neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs).

Purpose: To investigate alterations in thalamic χ in patients with NDDs using QSM.

Use of laser-ablation inductively-coupled mass spectroscopy for analysis of selenosugars bound to proteins.

We previously used high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with Se-specific inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and molecule specific (ESI Orbitrap MS/MS) detection to study the increase in liver Se in turkeys and rats supplemented as selenite in high-Se (5 µg Se/g diet) and adequate-Se diets. We found that far more Se is present as selenosugar (seleno-N-acetyl galactosamine) than is present as selenocysteine (Sec) in true selenoproteins. In high-Se liver, the increase in liver Se was due to low molecular weight (LMW) selenometabolites as glutathione-, cysteine- and methyl-conjugates of the selenosugar, but also as high molecular weight (HMW) species as selenosugars decorating general proteins via mixed-disulfide bonds.

Effect of the Nursing Process with Standardized Taxonomy on Bowel Cleansing Prior to Colonoscopy in Outpatients.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of the nursing process applied by using standard nursing terminologies on colonoscopy preparation of outpatients on bowel cleansing.

Methods: The sample of the prospective, single-blind, randomized controlled study consisted of 116 patients (intervention n = 57, control n = 59). Both groups were interviewed face to face one week before the procedure day, nursing diagnoses were determined individually, and nursing outcome scales were employed as a baseline assessment.
