Di-2-(ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) is a phthalate derivative used extensively in a wide range of materials, such as medical devices, toys, cosmetics, and personal care products. Many mechanisms, including epigenetics, may be involved in the effects of phthalates on brain development. In this study, Sprague-Dawley male rats were obtained 21-23 days after their birth (post-weaning) and were exposed to DEHP during the prepubertal period with low-dose DEHP (DEHP-L, 30 mg/kg/day) and high-dose DEHP (DEHP-H, 60 mg/kg/day, 37 days) until the end of adolescence (PND 60).

Background: Cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) is a rare but potentially life-threatening condition characterized by the formation of a blood clot in the dural venous sinuses or cerebral veins. CVT presents a diverse array of clinical symptoms, making its diagnosis challenging. Understanding regional variations and specific risk factors associated with CVT is crucial, especially in low-resource settings like Somalia, where epidemiological data is limited and healthcare resources are scarce.

Background: Severe burns induce volume shifts via capillary leaks, eventually requiring massive fluid resuscitation and promoting tissue edema. Albumin may help to mitigate the edema, thereby improving perfusion. This study shows that sublingual microcirculation measurements can quantify both tissue perfusion and edema.

Aminoglycosides are concentration-dependent antibiotics exerting a bactericidal effect when concentrations at the site of infection are equal to or greater than 5 times the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC). When administered intravenously, they exhibit poor lung penetration and high systemic renal and ototoxicity, imposing to restrict their administration to 5 days. Experimental studies conducted in anesthetized and mechanically ventilated sheep and pigs provide evidence that high doses of nebulized aminoglycosides induce a rapid and potent bacterial killing in the infected lung parenchyma.

Background: Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury can occur in a wide variety of diseases and surgeries. If necessary, the blood flow should be restored, including re-anastomosis by removing the intestines with impaired circulation. In this process, anastomotic strength is as important as inflammatory responses and oxidative stress.

Objective: The mortality risk for critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) can be predicted through clinical assessments and laboratory test results. The accurate utilization of these parameters is essential for timely intervention and the initiation of appropriate therapeutic strategies. This study aims to retrospectively examine the relationship between patients' clinical status at ICU admission, prognostic risk scoring systems, biochemical and hematological parameters, and mortality outcomes.

Purpose: In patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), infections, particularly pneumonias, are the most common cause of hospital admissions and death after cardiovascular diseases. It is recommended that dialysis patients receive the pneumococcal vaccine every five years and the influenza vaccine annually. Our study aims to determine the awareness and factors affecting influenza and pneumococcal vaccination rates in hemodialysis patients.

Background: Rapid, reproducible, and noninvasive diagnostic methods like Ultrasonography (US) and plethysmographic measurements such as the perfusion index (PI) and pleth variablity index (PVI) have great potential value for emergency trauma cases in which blood loss needs to be recognized quickly and accurately.
Objectives: We planned this study to evaluate the utility of US, PI, and PVI in detecting early-stage hemorrhage and mimicking volume replacement using a platelet apheresis model.
Methods: This prospective, observational study included 46 healthy platelet apheresis volunteers who met inclusion criteria.

Breast reduction surgery is a commonly performed procedure relieving physical discomfort and improving quality of life for individuals with macromastia. Despite its benefits, there are inherent risks associated with surgical intervention, one of which is the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). This relatively rare complication can lead to significant morbidity and mortality if not recognized and managed properly.

The tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) (transthoracic apical two-chamber stretch) and pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) ratio is a measure of cardiac function that is used to assess left ventricular systolic function. PASP is typically measured using a catheterization procedure, in which a small tube is inserted into a blood vessel and advanced to the pulmonary artery. A TAPSE/PASP ratio higher than 0.

However, CTO-PCI encounters challenges such as undersized stents, dissection risks, and limited access to intravascular imaging (IVI), particularly in regions with limited health budgets. This study introduces the 'GIVE IT TIME TO SOBER UP - GITSU strategy', a two-session CTO-PCI approach where Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI-3) antegrade flow is achieved without stent placement in the first session.

In vitro maturation (IVM) is a form of assisted reproductive technology (ART) applied to obtain mature oocytes in culture. Decline in IVM success rates by age has led consideration of novel approaches based on cellular dynamics. Our aim was to achieve proteostasis in old bovine oocytes from 13 to 16-year-old bovine with a lower potential for fertilization.

Cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity, a major limitation of this chemotherapeutic agent, involves oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. This study investigated the potential renoprotective effects of humic acid in a rat model of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. Forty-two male Wistar rats were assigned to six groups: control, humic acid, cisplatin, cisplatin + humic acid 10 mg/kg, cisplatin + humic acid 20 mg/kg, and cisplatin + humic acid 40 mg/kg.
