Prognostic value of systemic immune-inflammation index in older patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Objectives: Contemporary studies assessing the importance of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) in older patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) are scarce. This study investigated the impact and prognostic value of the SII regarding long-term mortality in older patients with ACS.

Methods: The study included 401 older patients aged 75 years and above admitted with ACS between May 2015 and December 2022.

Studying Kurdishness in Turkey: A review of existing research.

Knowledge production on marginalized identities is frequently shaped by epistemic violence, which limits both the scope and methodologies of research. One example of this is the case of Kurdish identity in Turkey, where we find that methodological and epistemic problems are evident particularly in social psychological research. To summarize social psychological studies on Kurdishness, Kurdish identity and conflict in Turkey we've conducted a systematic review that includes a total of 63 studies on topics related to Kurdishness.

Newly defined biomarker for the no reflow phenomenon in patients with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome; uric acid to creatinine ratio.

Background: The present study aimed to investigate whether newly defined serum uric acid (SUA) to serum creatinine ratio (SUA/SCr) predicts no-reflow phenomenon (NRP) development in patients with non-ST-elevated acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS).

Methods: The study group was divided into two groups: those who developed NRP and those who did not. Complete blood counts, SUA, serum creatinine, C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin were obtained at admission.

Introduction: It is crucial to understand the effects that traumatic events related to natural disasters have on individuals in as much detail as possible. However, the literature investigating the traumatic life experiences of nurses, who play a key role in disaster management, is still limited.

Objective: The aim of this study was to explore in depth the traumatic life experiences of volunteer nurses who participated in relief efforts after two major earthquakes in the southeastern region of Türkiye.

The civil employment experiences of amputee veterans: The case of Turkey.

Military veterans who became disabled due to conflict-related trauma face various challenges in finding and maintaining employment in civilian life. This study aims to understand the transition processes of disabled veterans in Turkey into civilian employment, as well as their experiences in maintaining and sustaining employment during this process. A qualitative research design was used in the study.

Potential effects of liver dysfunction at the time of diagnosis in patients with acute myeloid leukemia.

Whilst severe liver dysfunction is rarely encountered at the time of diagnosis for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), mild elevations aminotransferase (<5 times the upper limit of normal) may be more frequently seen. Liver dysfunction at the time of diagnosis of AML is a parameter that requires investigation and can assist the clinicians in predicting prognosis. The aim of the present study was to investigate liver dysfunction at the time of diagnosis using the assoicated parameters in patients with AML.

Investigation of the Protective Effects of Dexmedetomidine, Midazolam, Propofol, and Intralipid on Oxidative Stress and Inflammation in Rats with Lidocaine-Induced Toxicity.

Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of dexmedetomidine, midazolam, propofol, and intralipid on lidocaine-induced cardiotoxicity and neurotoxicity.

Methods: Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups (n = 8 per group): control (C), lidocaine (L), lidocaine + dexmedetomidine (LD), lidocaine + midazolam (LM), lidocaine + propofol (LP), and lidocaine + intralipid (LI). Dexmedetomidine (100 µg/kg), midazolam (4 mg/kg), propofol (40 mg/kg), and intralipid (10 mg/kg) were administered intraperitoneally as pretreatment.

A new parameter to increase the predictive value of multiparametric prostate magnetic resonance imaging for clinically significant prostate cancer in targeted biopsies: lesion density.

Aim: To investigate the predictive value of lesion length in multiparametric prostate magnetic resonance imaging with respect to prostate volume for clinically significant prostate cancer diagnosis in targeted biopsies.

Materials And Methods: The data of biopsy-naïve patients in the Turkish Urooncology Association Prostate Cancer Database who underwent targeted prostate biopsies were included in this study. Lesion density is calculated as the ratio of lesion length (mm) in MR to prostate volume (cc).

Does the type of the previous biopsy affect the fusion prostate biopsy results?

Background: It has been more than a decade since fusion prostate biopsy (FPB) has been used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa). Therefore, patients with a previous history of negative FPB and ongoing suspicion of PCa are beginning to emerge. This study investigated whether the first biopsy type (standard or fusion) should be effective in deciding on a second biopsy.

Digital solutions for migrant and refugee health: a framework for analysis and action.

Digital technologies can help support the health of migrants and refugees and facilitate research on their health issues. However, ethical concerns include security and confidentiality of information; informed consent; how to engage migrants in designing, implementing and researching digital tools; inequitable access to mobile devices and the internet; and access to health services for early intervention and follow-up. Digital technical solutions do not necessarily overcome problems that are political, social, or economic.

An examination of immersive journalism by bibliometric analysis from 1999 to 2023.

Immersive journalism is an innovative storytelling approach that aims to enable the audience to experience the event or situation in the news using virtual reality, unlike traditional news narration. In this study, the literature related to the subject was searched using the keywords Immersive Journalism, 360-Degree Video, Narrative journalism, Newsgame, VR Storytelling through the Web of Science database and a data set was created from 955 publications between 1999 and 2023. No filter was applied to the studies in the data set of the study and articles, books, and early access publications as well as book chapters, editorial materials or conference proceedings in the Web of Science database were included in the study.

Multi-omics characterization of improved cognitive functions in Parkinson's disease patients after the combined metabolic activator treatment: a randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled phase II trial.

Parkinson's disease is primarily marked by mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic abnormalities. We recently reported that the combined metabolic activators improved the immunohistochemical parameters and behavioural functions in Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease animal models and the cognitive functions in Alzheimer's disease patients. These metabolic activators serve as the precursors of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and glutathione, and they can be used to activate mitochondrial metabolism and eventually treat mitochondrial dysfunction.

Protective Effect of Nerolidol on Paclitaxel-Induced Reproductive Toxicity in Rats: Oxidative Stress and Inflammation.

Paclitaxel (PAC), derived from Taxus brevifolia, is used to treat solid tumours but causes reproductive toxicity due to oxidative stress, affecting sperm quality and testicular tissue. Nerolidol (NRL), an antioxidant sesquiterpene alcohol, has not been studied for its potential to reduce PAC-induced reproductive damage. This study investigates NRL's ability to mitigate PAC-induced reproductive toxicity in rats.

Impact of different glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor infusion routes on infarct size and microvascular obstruction in patients with high thrombotic risk ST elevation myocardial infarction.

Objective: Current guidelines recommend the use of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa (GpIIb/IIIa) inhibitors in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) only as a bail-out therapy. However, drug penetration to the jeopardised area may not be achieved due to impeded blood flow and increased microvascular resistance. Aim of our study is to investigate the impact of distal intracoronary GpIIb/IIIa inhibitor agent infusion in STEMI patients.

Unraveling Chemical Profile, Antioxidant, Antialzheimer and Antimicrobial Potentials of Three Propolis from Northeastern Regions of Algeria: In Vitro and in Silico Evaluation.

This study investigates the pharmaceutical potential both in vitro and in silico of ethanolic propolis extract from three Algerian regions namely TAH (Tahir-Jijel), ATH (Oued Athmania-Mila) and OZ (Oued Zhor-skikda). Twenty-three compounds were identified via HPLC‒DAD, with key constituents including caffeic acid, cynarin, chrysin, naringin, and hesperetin. Moreover, Antioxidant and anti-Alzheimer activities were assessed by multiple assays.
