A study on the determination of the factors affecting the happiness levels of older individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkish society.

This study aims to determine the factors affecting the happiness levels of older individuals in Türkiye during the COVID-19 pandemic. The microdata set from the 2020 Life Satisfaction Survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute was utilized, involving 1,863 individuals aged 60 and above. The relationship between happiness levels and various factors was investigated using the chi-square independence test, and the factors affecting happiness were further analyzed through generalized ordered logistic regression.

Dynamine 3 as a Diagnostic and Prognostic Biomarker in Pancreatic Cancer: Implications for Early Detection and Targeted Therapy.

Background: Dynamins are defined as a group of molecules with GTPase activity that play a role in the formation of endocytic vesicles and Golgi apparatus. Among them, DNM3 has gained recognition in oncology for its tumor suppressor role. Based on this, the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the DNM3 gene in patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer using bioinformatics databases.

Microplastic accumulation in various bird species in Turkey.

Plastic pollution constitutes one of the major environmental problems of our time, and in recent years, it has emerged as a significant threat to the environment and to various organisms, including bird species. In this context, this study, which provides the first data in Türkiye, aimed to determine the level of microplastic (MP) pollution in 12 bird species (Eurasian buzzard; short-toed snake-eagle; white stork; northern long-eared owl; common barn-owl; ruddy shelduck; Eurasian eagle-owl; scarlet macaw; common pheasant; Indian peafowl; common kestrel; and gray parrot). The results indicate that MPs were detected in 50% of the specimens (n = 20), with an average of one MP/item per individual.

Pathway from Earthquake Fear to Post-Traumatic Growth: The Roles of Resilience, Self-Efficacy, and Positive Childhood Memories Among Survivors of the 2023 Türkiye Earthquakes.

Posttraumatic growth is essential for understanding how individuals process trauma and adapt psychologically in the aftermath of seismic events. This study aims to explore the mediating effects of resilience, self-efficacy, and positive childhood memories on the relationship between fear of earthquakes and post-traumatic growth among survivors of the 2023 Türkiye earthquake (N = 423). The results of a multi-mediation analysis indicated that earthquake fear indirectly influenced post-traumatic growth through resilience, self-efficacy, and positive childhood memories.

Deep Learning Enabled Scoring of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors Based on Cancer Infiltration Patterns.

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms that include tumors with different histomorphologic characteristics that can be correlated to sub-categories with different prognoses. In addition to the WHO grading scheme based on tumor proliferative activity, a new parameter based on the scoring of infiltration patterns at the interface of tumor and non-neoplastic parenchyma (tumor-NNP interface) has recently been proposed for PanNET categorization. Despite the known correlations, these categorizations can still be problematic due to the need for human judgment, which may involve intra- and inter-observer variability.

Optical coherence tomography and fundus autofluorescence features in choroidal and retinal tumors.

The aim of the study was todescribe the clinical features, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and fundus autofluorescence (FAF) imaging in patients with choroidal and retinal tumors. Ninety eyes of 89 patients with treatment-naive macular, midperipheral, and juxtapapillary choroidal and retinal tumors were retrospectively included in the study. All patients underwent a complete ophthalmic examination, B-mode ultrasonography, OCT, and FAF imaging.

A complete response with daratumumab, venetoclax, azacitidine and dexamethasone in a heavily pre-treated, chemo-refractory early T-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma patient.

Early T-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (ETP-ALL/LBL) is a rare and aggressive subtype of T-cell leukemia with poor prognosis and resistance to standard treatments. We report a 21-year-old male with ETP-ALL/LBL who, after an initial complete remission with the HOELZER protocol, experienced early relapse and was refractory to subsequent FLEND and BFM protocols. Following disease progression and complications, he was treated with a combination of daratumumab, venetoclax, azacitidine, and dexamethasone.

Survey of legislative frameworks and national recommendations governing paediatric maintenance haemodialysis in Europe.

Background: The application of international recommendations for paediatric maintenance haemodialysis (HD) could be strengthened by national laws or written recommendations. Our aim was therefore to describe the national rules governing paediatric maintenance HD in European countries.

Methods: A national representative, approved by the president of each paediatric nephrology society, was contacted in all 42 European countries to complete two online questionnaires.

This study was conducted with a total of 273 women who had at least one vaginal birth in order to examine women's perceptions of traumatic births and the factors affecting these perceptions. This is a descriptive and correlational study. Womens Traumatic Birth Perception Scale (TBPS) mean score was 59.

In this paper, we have uncovered a new reaction of -homopropargylic β-enaminones, -(4-phenyl-3-butynyl)-β-enaminones. When subjected to a reaction with excess molecular iodine or -iodosuccinimide in the presence of cesium carbonate, -homopropargylic β-enaminones afford 6,7-dihydrofuro[3,4-]pyridines in low to moderate yields. The generation of two new C/O-C bonds during the reaction leads to the construction of unknown heterobicyclic 5,6-fused ring systems.

Perceptions of internal and external continuing bonds in bereaved individuals with and without prolonged grief disorder.

This study aimed to compare individuals with and without a diagnosis of Prolonged Grief Disorder in terms of the intensity of internal and external continuing bonds, as well as the extent to which they interpret these bonds as comforting, socially acceptable, and an inseparable part of their self-identity. The sample consisted of 229 bereaved adults (PGD:  = 27; non-PGD:  = 202). Results indicated that the PGD group experienced internal and external bonds more intensely, reporting higher scores for interpreting them as an inseparable part of self-identity and lower scores for interpreting them as socially acceptable.

Does Mother's Nutritional Knowledge Level Affect Anthropometric Measurements of 0-2 Year Old Infants?

The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between maternal nutritional knowledge and anthropometric indices in children under 2 years of age. The Infant Nutrition Attitude Scale (IOWA) was administered to all participated mothers. The IOWA was developed to assess women's attitudes toward breastfeeding and their choice of infant feeding method.

Introduction: Evaluating the mechanical-anatomical alignment and angles of the knee joint is crucial for athletes. We aimed to analyse the relationship between lower extremity bone alignment and the importance of the Q angle (QA) in male athletes.

Methods: We included 38 male professional football athletes without any alignment or varus-valgus deformity who actively played football in various football clubs in Istanbul.

Background/aims: Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) with human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing represents a significant advancement in treating inherited hematological disorders, particularly thalassemia major. This technology enables the birth of healthy children who can serve as compatible stem cell donors for their affected siblings. Turkey is a world leader in both PGD+HLA typing technology and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from savior siblings born through PGD+HLA typing.

Turkish adaptation and psychometric evaluation of the Grief Impairment Scale.

ABSRACTGrief usually proceeds in a normal course, but sometimes it may become dysfunctional. So psychometrically robust assessments are needed to identify abnormal grief. This study aimed to adapt the Grief Impairment Scale to Turkish and explore its psychometric properties with a sample of 364 bereaved adults.

The relationship between perceived stigma and health-promoting self-care in adult patients with type 2 diabetes.

Objectives: The study was conducted to examine the relationship between perceived self-stigma and health promotion self-care in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: The study was conducted with 206 patients with type 2 diabetes who were hospitalized in the endocrinology clinic of a state hospital between July and September 2023 and met the study inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a patient identification form, the Type 2 Diabetes Stigma Assessment Scale (DSAS-2) and the Diabetes Health Promotion Self-Care Scale (DHPSC).
