Reliability and validity of the Londrina activities of daily living protocol in individuals with systemic sclerosis.

Purpose: To investigate the validity and reliability of the Londrina ADL Protocol in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc).

Methods: The study included 39 individuals with SSc and 30 healthy participants aged 18-70 years. Performance-related ADL assessment was performed with the Londrina ADL Protocol which was performed twice by the same rater and energy expenditure during the test with the Dynaport Move Monitor device.

Determination of IL-17, BCL-3 and IκBζ expression levels in the gingival crevicular fluid of psoriasis patients.

The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of IL-17, Bcl-3 and IκBζ gene expression in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of psoriatic and healthy individuals and to compare the clinical periodontal parameters in the patient and control groups. A total of 10 psoriasis patients and 2 healthy patients in the control group were included in the analysis for IL-17, Bcl-3, and IκBζ gene expression in the GCF. Periodontal health, gingival index, plaque index, and mobility (using a periotest device) levels were compared between the groups.

Status of IKZF1 Deletions in Diagnose and Relapsed Pediatric B-ALL Patients.

IKZF1 deletions (ΔIKZF1) are common in precursor B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and are assumed to have a prognostic impact. In this study, the structure of a new boron compound obtained using 3-methoxy catechol and 4-methoxy phenyl boronic acid was characterized by H, C NMR, LC-MS-IT-TOF, UV-Vis and FTIR spectroscopy. Background: The amplitude of resting-state electroencephalographic (rsEEG) rhythms is a promising neurophysiological biomarker to investigate the abnormalities of oscillatory neurophysiological thalamocortical mechanisms related to the general cortical arousal and vigilance in wakefulness in patients with dementia due to neurodegenerative diseases as Alzheimer's disease (ADD), Parkinson's disease (PDD) and Lewy Body disease (DLB). Here, we tested the hypothesis that the reactivity of posterior rsEEG alpha (about 8-12 Hz) rhythms during the transition from eyes-closed to -open condition may be lower in PDD patients than in DLB patients.

Methods: A Eurasian database provided clinical-demographic-rsEEG datasets in 35 ADD patients, 65 PDD patients, 30 DLB patients, and 25 matched cognitively unimpaired (Healthy) persons.

Shear Wave Elastography in AV Fistula Thrombosis: Differentiating Thrombus Age and Assessing Clinical Outcomes of Balloon Angioplasty.

Objectives: To evaluate the role of shear wave elastography (SWE) in distinguishing acute from subacute thrombi in thrombosed arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) and explore the relationship between thrombus stiffness and outcomes of balloon angioplasty.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study included 44 dialysis patients with thrombosed AVFs from June 2022 to June 2024. Patients underwent Doppler ultrasound and SWE to assess thrombus age, followed by balloon angioplasty.

Noninvasive Approach to Postoperative Bleeding in Patients Undergoing Septorhinoplasty Surgery.

Objectives: In this study, we retrospectively examined the bleeding that occurred in the 5-year patient series.

Materials And Methods: One thousand seven hundred seventy-five patients who underwent septorhinoplasty surgery between 2019 and 2023 were included in the study, and 28 of these patients who presented with bleeding complications were examined. All patients underwent open-technique septorhinoplasty surgery with or without concha intervention and were discharged the next day after overnight hospitalization.

Background: In the EEG research of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and other diseases belonging to dementia, the literature is rapidly growing to indicate biomarkers specific to the type of dementia. The literature showed firm conclusions that decreasing event-related delta and theta responses could be a biomarker showing cognitive decline (Güntekin et al. 2022).

Background: Early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD), manifesting before age 65, demands nuanced diagnostic approaches. FDG18-PET unveils metabolic insights, the MRI scale captures structural changes, and ACE-R assesses cognitive impairment details. A holistic evaluation enhances diagnostic precision and enriches our understanding of cognitive decline in early-onset presentations.

Biomarkers.

Background: Vigilance and sleep disturbances in Alzheimer's and related diseases, even at the stage of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), have been extensively documented, showing abnormal daytime naps and alterations in the sleep-wake cycle. However, the EEG correlates of the transition from wakefulness to light sleep have not yet been compared between MCI patients due to Alzheimer's vs. other neurodegenerative diseases.

Upper Extremity Exercise Capacity and Muscle Oxygenation in Patients With Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia.

Background And Objectives: Patients with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) have a reduction in exercise capacity from the early stages. Although there are studies investigating these patients' lower extremity exercise capacity using various methodologies, there needs to be more research on the functional exercise capacity of the upper extremities. This study aimed to compare pulmonary function, upper extremity functional exercise capacity, muscle oxygenation, muscle strength, and physical activity level in children with PCD and controls.

Background: International collaboration is crucial to the future of research in dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). Although it is hoped that a single global DLB cohort can be created through combination of data from the many longitudinal studies conducted internationally, a high likelihood of phenotypic heterogeneity may prohibit harmonisation and analysis of datasets. Our primary objective is to determine whether significant heterogeneity is observed in the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of people with DLB globally.

Biomarkers.

Background: mRNAs are required to progress cellular processes such as synaptic plasticity and memory formation. Processing bodies (P-bodies) are storage units for mRNAs located at dendritic translation sites, so these mRNAs can participate in synaptic plasticity immediately when needed. P-bodies consist of 3 main proteins: DDX6, 4E-T, and LSM14A.

Biomarkers.

Background: Patients with mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease (ADMCI) are characterized by abnormalities in resting-state electroencephalographic (rsEEG) rhythms as measures of brain neural synchronization dysfunction (Babiloni et al., PMID: 33860614). Here, we tested the two following hypotheses that those rsEEG abnormalities: (i) may be higher in ADMCI patients than in patients with MCI not due to AD (noADMCI); and (ii) may be related to the AD diagnostic amyloid-tau biomarkers derived from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).

Background: Synaptic loss is an eminent feature of tauopathies. The recently developed novel SV2A PET-tracer UCB-J has shown great promise in tracking synaptic loss in tauopathies. However, there have been discrepancies between the in vivo findings and a lack of mechanistic insight.

Background: The quantification of neurofilament light chain (NfL) in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has proved useful in many contexts, for the diagnosis and prognosis of various neurological disorders. There is, however, a diversity of practices between centers, essentially linked to the context of use (COU), analytical methods, consideration of comorbidities, determination of cut-points or use of interpretation scales. Finally, for the same biochemical profile, the interpretation and reporting of results may differ from one center to another, raising the question of test commutability.

Background: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is viewed as a transitional stage between normal aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD), serving as a pathological precursor to AD. Longitudinal studies indicate an annual conversion rate from MCI to AD of 10-15%. Our previous studies have shown decreased coherence values in visual event-related slow frequency bands including theta frequency.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a significant global health issue that affects both individuals and society for older adults. Early detection is essential in Alzheimer's disease, as there is no definite treatment, and prevention is possible through early detection. In the studies of Alzheimer's disease, different approaches are used to understand the characteristics of the disease, including imaging methods such as MRI scans, biomarkers, and quantitative data from MRI scans.

Background: Early-onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD), distinct from late-onset cases, tends to present with atypical cognitive decline, such as, progressive aphasia, apraxia, visuospatial and comportmental impairments,. This study aims to investigate correlations between clinical presentation and PET imaging findings in EOAD patients.

Method: A retrospective analysis was conducted on CSF confirmed EOAD patients.

Background: Combining plasma phosphorylated Tau 217 (pTau217), with cognitive assessments allows for predicting incident dementia in mild cognitive impairment (MCI). However, the performance of this approach in primary care as well as the added value of other blood-based biomarkers (BBM) in this setting is unclear.

Methods: We examined 833 older primary care patients from the AgeCoDe/AgeQualiDe study (median age=83).

Validity and Reliability of the Turkish version of the Affiliated Stigma Scalefor Caregivers of Dementia.

Objective: The aim of this study was to adapt the "Affiliated Stigma Scale" to Turkish for caregivers of people with dementia and determine its psychometric properties. The scale measures the affiliated stigma experienced by caregivers of people with dementia.

Method: We assessed the psychometric properties of Affiliated Stigma Scale in 218 adults who were primary caregivers for their relatives with dementia.

Objective: This study aimed to validate the Turkish version of the Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia Knowledge Scale (BPSD-T) among caregivers. The goal was to assess the scale's psychometric properties, ensuring it accurately measures caregivers' knowledge of dementia-related behavioral and psychological symptoms in a Turkish context.
