Article Synopsis
  • Two devastating earthquakes in Türkiye on February 6, 2023, resulted in significant injuries to 903 children, with a focus on crush syndrome-related acute kidney injury (Crush-AKI) and mortality.
  • The study tracked various factors, including the time under rubble, treatment protocols, and patient outcomes, revealing that Crush-AKI developed in 36% of the patients, and over half required dialysis.
  • Key findings included that serum levels of creatine phosphokinase above 20,950 U/L and inadequate initial intravenous fluid volume were linked to Crush-AKI, and most deaths occurred among those with Crush-AKI within the first four days of admission.

  • Immunoglobulin A vasculitis with nephritis (IgAVN) is the most common vasculitis in children, and this study aimed to analyze clinical outcomes, treatments, and risk factors in a large cohort of 1148 children diagnosed with the condition.
  • The retrospective analysis revealed that poorer outcomes were associated with factors like older age, lower kidney function at onset, hypertension, and certain kidney damage features, but no specific treatment was found to be more effective than others.
  • The study concluded that there is a need for further research and clinical trials to determine effective treatments and improve health outcomes for children with IgAVN.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the prognostic value of clinical factors and metabolic parameters measured using fluorodeoxyglucose PET (FDG-PET/CT) in predicting disease recurrence, as well as distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), local recurrence-free survival (LRFS), and overall survival (OS) in patients with uterine cervical cancer who received definitive chemoradiotherapy.

Methods: The clinical data and FDG-PET parameters, including standardized uptake value (SUV), metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) of 194 patients with biopsy-confirmed squamous cell carcinoma of cervical cancer were retrospectively analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to ascertain prognostic factors associated with DMFS, LRFS, and OS.

Objective: This study aimed to explore the relationship between maternal plasma lipoxin A4 (LXA4) levels during the second trimester of pregnancy and certain proinflammatory molecules, such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), as well as the antiangiogenic factor vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 1 (VEGFR-1), in conjunction with obesity among pregnant women.

Materials And Methods: A total of 30 pregnant women with obesity were compared with 30 pregnant women of normal weight, matched for both age and gestational week. Plasma samples were collected from all participants between the 18 and 28 weeks of pregnancy.

  • The study assessed the impact of reducing the planning target volume (PTV) margin in MR-guided radiotherapy (MRgRT) on radiation dose distribution for low-risk prostate cancer patients.
  • Both MR-Linac (MRL) plans with reduced and normal margins were compared against a conventional IMRT plan, revealing that all plans met coverage and dose constraints.
  • Results indicated that while MRL plans delivered higher doses to the target, the reduced margin plan significantly minimized radiation exposure to surrounding organs like the rectum and bladder compared to the conventional IMRT.
