Optical coherence tomography in multiple sclerosis: A Tunisian tertiary center study.

Purpose: To study retinal layers on OCT in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and look for correlations with clinical and electrophysiological characteristics.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study including MS patients aged between 18 and 60 years and a reference group of healthy, age- and gender-matched, control participants. A neurological examination with assessment of disability by the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), an ophthalmological examination, a spectral-domain OCT, and visual evoked potentials (VEP) were performed.

Clot waveform analysis in hemophilia carriers.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the activated partial thromboplastin time clot waveform analysis (APTT-CWA), which reflects clot formation. It was mainly studied in hemophilia and disseminated intravascular coagulation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of APTT-CWA in hemophilia carriers.

Introduction: Focal acantholytic dyskeratosis is a distinctive histological pattern first described by Ackerman in 1972, consisting of focal suprabasal clefts in the epidermis and dyskeratotic cells at all levels of the epidermis with hyperkeratosis and parakeratosis. The first case of subungual acantholytic dyskeratosis acanthoma (ADA) was reported in 1990. This subungual variant is a very rare entity.

In this study, we developed a new crosslinked biopolymer using sodium alginate (AG) and carrageenan (CAR) polysaccharides. Various metal complexes involving different metal salts such as CoCl·6HO and CrCl·6HO were synthesized using the crosslinked biopolymer formed above.

Enhanced brain tumor diagnosis using combined deep learning models and weight selection technique.

Brain tumor classification is a critical task in medical imaging, as accurate diagnosis directly influences treatment planning and patient outcomes. Traditional methods often fall short in achieving the required precision due to the complex and heterogeneous nature of brain tumors. In this study, we propose an innovative approach to brain tumor multi-classification by leveraging an ensemble learning method that combines advanced deep learning models with an optimal weighting strategy.

Exploration and impact of Metlaoui-Gafsa phosphate rock amendment: the role of Serratia plymuthica BMA1 in phosphate solubilization, heavy metal rhizoaccumulation, and enhanced nutrition in Vicia faba L.

The geochemical analysis of Gafsa rock phosphate (GRP) revealed relatively high concentrations of essential plant minerals and trace heavy metals (HMs). Environmental contamination factors indicated moderate to very strong HM contamination due to GRP soil amendment. The potential use of the Serratia plymuthica BMA1 strain, which is known for its ability to solubilize GRP, to enhance mineral nutrition in Vicia faba L.

Sarcoidosis in north African people: about 35 cases.

Background And Aim: Sarcoidosis is a systemic disease of unknown cause characterized by the formation of non-caseating granulomatous inflammation in various organs, mainly  lungs and intrathoracic lymph nodes. Its clinical and paraclinical presentation can vary from mild to life-threatening. Our objective is to study the clinical, paraclinical and evolution profile of mediastino-pulmonary sarcoidosis.

Fœtal sacrococcygeal teratoma type I: A case report.

Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) is a rare congenital tumor typically diagnosed in neonates, with management challenges arising from the size of the tumor and associated delivery complications. In this case, a 32-year-old gravida 5 para 5 woman with a history of three prior cesarean sections was diagnosed with a giant type I SCT at 30 weeks of gestation through prenatal ultrasound, confirmed by fetal MRI. At 34 weeks, an emergency cesarean section was performed due to acute fetal distress, resulting in a newborn with transient respiratory distress.

Temporomandibular joint effusion: Diagnostic and therapeutic approaches: A case report.

A Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) effusion is an accumulation of fluid components in the articular space. It represents an inflammatory process which can be associated with trauma, arthritis or internal derangement of TMJ such as disc displacement. In this study, we present the case of a 48-year-old patient presented with TMJ effusion, diagnosed as resulting from disc displacement without reduction and osteoarthrosis.

Unusual hand tumor: A case report.

Adipose tumors are dominated by lipomas, but other rarer entities may be encountered such as hibernoma which is a benign tumor that develops from brown fat. The thigh is the preferred location for hibernomas, but the tumor can appear in other areas. The upper limb is a rare localization and there is only 1 case of hibernoma on the hand already reported in the English literature.

Maize-fusarium interactions: Tunisian insights into mycotoxin ecology.

Maize is a worldwide crop yet can be associated with mycotoxigenic fungi, much investigated in humid tropical and cooler, wet temperate regions. However, in hot, arid/semi-arid regions data on their occurrence are poor. In this paper, we focused on interactions between maize and Fusarium fungal species in Tunisia, which has a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and milder, damper winters.

Biodegradation and mechanical performance of Silane-chitosan-graphene oxide composite coating on AZ31 magnesium alloys for biomedical applications.

Biodegradable magnesium alloy medical implants have attracted considerable interest thanks to their remarkable biocompatibility and mechanical properties. However, the rapid corrosion rate of magnesium alloys in physiological environments presents a major challenge to their practical application. Therefore, this study attempted to design a silane/chitosan /graphene oxide composite coating that reduces the corrosion and enhances the biodegradation of magnesium alloys used in temporary implants.

Dermoscopy of Lichen Planus Pigmentosus and Histopathological Correlation: A Case Series.

Introduction: Lichen planus pigmentosus (LPP) is an acquired pigmentary disorder affecting the dark-skinned population. There is a wide range of differentials, with substantial clinicopathological overlap. Dermoscopy may contribute to the better characterization of this dermatosis.

Development of flexibility in primary school students.

Background: The flexibility development issue has not been studied well enough. Still, the problem can be partially solved in physical education lessons in a secondary school if a set of simple exercises for flexibility development is permanently added to the standard physical education (PE) program. The study aimed to increase flexibility in children aged 9-10 years in PE lessons.

Injury Profiling in Male Police Cadets During Initial Training Phase: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Musculoskeletal injuries during the "Initial Training Phase" (ITP) are a major medical problem faced by law enforcement agencies worldwide. Aiming to develop an injury prevention strategy, we examined the incidence, type, associated factors, and severity of injuries and secondarily tracked their evolution over time by batches in a police academy. A retrospective cohort study was conducted using prospectively collected injury data on 979 newly recruited male police cadets enrolled in eight batches between 2015 and 2023.
