Introduction: Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) expression is not well-studied in Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER2) positive breast cancer. We aim to study the prevalence of EGFR immunohistochemical expression in HER2-positive breast carcinomas and to correlate this expression with different anatomo-clinical parameters.

Methods: It was a retrospective study involving cases of HER2-positive breast carcinoma collected at the Immuno-Histo-Cytology Department of Salah Azaïez Institute of Tunis between 2018 and 2020.

February 2025

Departamento de Química y Física Teóricas, Instituto de Estructura de la Materia, IEM-CSIC, Unidad Asociada GIFMAN, CSIC-UHU, Serrano121, Madrid 28006, Spain. Electronic address:

Accurate structural and rovibrational parameters of hydroxyacetone, CH-CO-CHOH, are computed using highly correlated ab initio methods (CCSD(T)-F12), second order perturbation theory, and a variational procedure of reduced dimensionality, contemplating the interconversion of the conformers by internal rotation at low temperatures. Hydroxyacetone presents four different stable geometries. The preferred one, whose stability is prominent, is a quasi-planar structure slightly distorted due to the formation of an intramolecular hydrogen bond involving the OH hydrogen and the C=O oxygen atom.

Currently, evidence has pointed out that metal-based nanomaterials may have potentially harmful outcomes in the development of such diseases related to neurodegenerative disorders, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Among them, cobalt oxide nanoparticles (Co3O4-NPs), nano metal-oxides, are widely used in several areas such as industries and as wastewater treatment. Although Co3O4-NPs have a large scale in biological and industrial applications, there is a growing concern to their toxic effect on human health and the environment due to their reduced size and high reactivity, both chemically and biologically.

Probabilistic and deep learning approaches for conductivity-driven nanocomposite classification.

Sci Rep

March 2025

Higher institute of Information and Communication Technologies, University of Carthage, Tunis, Tunisia.

To foster greater trust and adoption of machine learning models, particularly neural networks, it is essential to develop approaches that quantify and report epistemic uncertainties alongside random uncertainties, which often affect the accuracy of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs). Addressing these challenges, this study proposes a hybrid approach integrating Bayesian techniques and deep learning to improve the classification of nanocomposites with a focus on evaluating their conductivity properties. The proposed framework begins with a Bayesian Network (BN) model, which provides probabilistic insights into the conductive behavior of nanocomposites by analyzing the distribution and interaction of their constituent nanoparticles.

Typically, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains exhibit concurrent resistance to numerous commonly used antibiotics. Between June and December 2023, five MRSA strains with an unusual antibiotic susceptibility pattern (susceptible to all antibiotics tested, except cefoxitin) were isolated at Charles Nicolle Hospital of Tunis. Isolates were characterized by whole genome sequencing using the Illumina DNA Prep kit.

Crohn's colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease affecting the colon, which can result in serious complications such as intestinal perforation and peritonitis. Clinically, it presents with symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting, which can be misinterpreted or overlooked, leading to diagnostic delays. We present an autopsy case of a 43-year-old woman with no significant past medical history, who initially consulted the Emergency Department for persistent abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea over a 10-day period.

African populations have traditionally been considered at relatively low risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), such as chronic coronary syndrome (CCS), but this is rapidly changing in association with ageing populations, uncontrolled urbanization and lack of control of classical CV risk factors. In sub-Saharan Africa, CVD deaths have increased by more than 50% in the past three decades. For CCS care, limited availability of clinical expertise, diagnostic facilities, and access to optimal medical therapy (OMT), lack or inadequate reimbursement of healthcare costs, and scarcity of universal health coverage (UHC) are major challenges.

LR21AGR03-Production and Protection for a Sustainable Horticulture (2PHD), Regional Research Centre on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture, IRESA- University of Sousse, Chott-Mariem, 4042, Tunisia.

Stem rot disease (Agroathelia rolfsii) biocontrol is an environmentally safe alternative that could potentially decrease disease severity and limit plant and yield losses. In the present investigation, 11 actinomycetes isolates, recovered from disease-suppressive composts, were tested as whole cell suspensions and cell-free culture filtrates for their ability to suppress tomato stem rot and to stimulate plant growth. Five isolates (namely A5-3, A2-4, A3-4, A4-4 and A5-4), applied as cell suspensions, were found to be the most effective in suppressing disease severity by 37.

Introduction: Climate change poses significant challenges to the distribution of endemics in the Mediterranean region. Assessing the impact of climate change on the distribution patterns of Mediterranean endemics is of critical importance for understanding the dynamics of these terrestrial ecosystems under the uncertainty of future changes. The population size of the has declined significantly over the previous century across its geographical region.

Most multicystic dysplastic kidneys (MCDKs) are detected prenatally, yet there is no clear consensus on initial evaluation and follow-up. We report the case of a 4-year-old male diagnosed with right pyelocalyceal dilation in utero, confirmed postnatally as MCDK. Follow-up ultrasounds revealed rapid growth of three upper pole cysts, reaching 8 cm.

Department of Neurology, LR 18SP03, Clinical Investigation Centre Neurosciences and Mental Health, University Hospital Razi- Manouba, Tunis, Tunisia.

Idiopathic epilepsy (IE), is a group of epileptic syndromes with no structural brain lesion, but with microstructural changes in neuronal networks leading to neuropsychological consequences. Therefore, the assessment of saccadic eye movements can provide insight into the integrity of cerebral networks as it involves large cortical and subcortical brain areas and circuitries. Describe saccadic eye movement abnormalities in patients with IE and correlate them with disease characteristics and antiseizure medication.

The use of plastics and other anthropogenic debris (AD) as nesting materials by the yellow-legged gull Larus michahellis (YLG) has been previously reported in different north Mediterranean and Atlantic breeding colonies. This behavior is also suspected to widely occur in south-Mediterranean areas, and possibly to a greater extent because of high AD availability related to inefficient waste management systems, but data are lacking. The aim of our study was therefore to investigate AD incorporation into YLG nests in a southern Tunisian breeding colony and determine to what degree this integration was associated with debris availability in the environment.
