  • Diagnosing Sjögren syndrome (SS) in elderly patients can be challenging due to factors like aging, comorbidities, or medication effects, which can mimic symptoms of the disease.
  • A study analyzed 323 SS patients over 18 years, finding that those over 65 (35 patients) had an earlier diagnosis and experienced more fatigue, but showed different immune markers and treatment approaches compared to younger patients.
  • While elderly patients with SS don't appear to represent a distinct group, their care requires careful consideration due to their increased vulnerability and the complexity of managing their health.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to fill the gap in reliable measures for assessing resilience in Arabic-speaking older adults by evaluating the psychometric properties of an Arabic version of the 15-item Resilience Scale of Older Adults (RSOA) using a sample of 539 Egyptian seniors.
  • - Results showed that the Arabic RSOA displayed high internal consistency (values between 0.83 and 0.93), an acceptable four-factor model fit, and measurement invariance across genders, indicating it is a robust tool for resilience evaluation.
  • - The findings suggest that while more research across different Arab communities is needed, the Arabic RSOA is a useful measure for resilience in clinical and research settings involving older Arabic-speaking adults.

Objective: To determine the effect of maternal status in (plasma and red blood cell) folate, vitamin B12, homocysteine, and vitamin D, as well as their interaction with MTHFR (C677T and A1298C) and MTRR A66G polymorphisms, on maternal plasma docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and arachidonic acid (ARA) levels and the risk of neural tube defects (NTDs).

Methods: ARA, EPA, and DHA composition was assessed using capillary gas chromatography.

Results: ARA and DHA levels were higher in controls than in case mothers for low plasma folate status.

Evidence suggests the importance of a person's chronotype in predicting various aspects of an individual's physical and mental health. While the effect of depression on sleep is well established, the impact of a person's specific sleep timing and chronotype on the prevalence of both depression and anxiety has yet to be fully understood, especially among university students, vulnerable to mental health problems. In addition, other factors also seem to influence the occurrence of depression and anxiety among students as well as their quality of sleep, one of which being the students' financial wellness.

Objective: This study aims to determine if 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR C677T and A1298C) and methionine synthase reductase (MTRR A66G) gene polymorphisms were associated with fatty acid (FA) levels in mothers of fetuses with neural tube defects (NTDs) and whether these associations were modified by environmental factors.

Methods: Plasma FA composition was assessed using capillary gas chromatography. Concentrations of studied FA were compared between 42 mothers of NTDs fetuses and 30 controls as a function of each polymorphism by the Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test.
