Background: Numerous meta-analyses and clinical studies have shown that subtypes of immune cells are associated with the development of skin cancer, but it is not clear whether this association is causal or biased. Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis reduces the effect of confounding factors and improves the accuracy of the results when compared to traditional studies. Thus, in order to examine the causal relationship between various immune cell and skin cancer, this study employs two-sample MR.

Bone metastasis caused the majority death of prostate cancer (PCa) but the mechanism remains poorly understood. In this present study, we show that polypeptide N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 12 (GALNT12) suppresses bone-specific metastasis of PCa. GALNT12 suppresses proliferation, migration, invasion and cell division ability of PCa cells by activating the BMP pathway.

Department of Nuclear Medicine, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Tumor Hospital of Yunnan Province, 519 Kunzhou Road, Xishan District, Kunming, KM, 650118, China.

Most patients with differentiated thyroid cancer have a good prognosis after radioactive iodine-131 treatment, but there are still a small number of patients who are not sensitive to radioiodine treatment and may subsequently show disease progression. Therefore, radioactive-iodine refractory differentiated thyroid cancer treated with radioiodine usually shows reduced radioiodine uptake. Thus, when sodium iodine symporter expression, basolateral membrane localization and recycling degradation are abnormal, radioactive-iodine refractory differentiated thyroid cancer may occur.

Center of Smart Laboratory and Molecular Medicine, School of Medicine, Chongqing University, Chongqing, 400044, P.R. China.

The spatiotemporal visualization of intracellular microRNA (miRNA) plays a critical role in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant disease. Although DNAzyme-based biosensing has been regarded as the most promising candidate, inefficient analytical resolution is frequently encountered. Here, we propose a bioorthogonal approach toward high-fidelity imaging of intracellular miRNA by designing a multifunctional nanoprobe that integrates MnO nanosheet-mediated intracellular delivery and activation by a fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO)-switched positive feedback.

Front Cell Dev Biol

February 2023

Colorectal Surgery, Third Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Tumor Hospital of Yunnan Province, Kunming, China.

Aging is a major risk factor for cancer development. As dysfunction in protein homeostasis, or proteostasis, is a universal hallmark of both the aging process and cancer, a comprehensive understanding of the proteostasis system and its roles in aging and cancer will shed new light on how we can improve health and quality of life for older individuals. In this review, we summarize the regulatory mechanisms of proteostasis and discuss the relationship between proteostasis and aging and age-related diseases, including cancer.
