Postoperative critical care management of congenital heart disease patients requires prompt intervention when the patient deviates significantly from clinician-determined vital sign and hemodynamic goals. Current monitoring systems only allow for static thresholds to be set on individual variables, despite the expectations that these signals change as the patient recovers and that variables interact. To address this incongruency, we have employed statistical process monitoring (SPM) techniques originally developed to monitor batch industrial processes to monitor high-frequency vital sign and hemodynamic data to establish multivariate trajectory maps for patients with d-transposition of the great arteries following the arterial switch operation.

Many infectious disease forecasting models in the United States (US) are built with data partitioned into geopolitical regions centered on human activity as opposed to regions defined by natural ecosystems; although useful for data collection and intervention, this has the potential to mask biological relationships between the environment and disease. We explored this concept by analyzing the correlations between climate and West Nile virus (WNV) case data aggregated to geopolitical and ecological regions. We compared correlations between minimum, maximum, and mean annual temperature; precipitation; and annual WNV neuroinvasive disease (WNND) case data from 2005 to 2019 when partitioned into (a) climate regions defined by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and (b) Level I ecoregions defined by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Recent changes in hydrocarbon feedstocks from oil to gas motivate research into small molecule upgrading. For example, the cyclotrimerization of acetylene reaction has been demonstrated on Pd, Pd alloy, and Cu surfaces and catalysts, but they are not 100% selective to benzene.

Rationale & Objective: Vaccination for influenza is strongly recommended for people with chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to their immunocompromised state. Identifying risk factors for not receiving an influenza vaccine (non-vaccination) could inform strategies for improving vaccine uptake in this high-risk population.

Background The evidence is equivocal on the association between meat consumption and ischemic heart disease (IHD) risk. To what extent the variation of individuals' metabolic responses to the same diet may account for this association is not fully understood. We aim to identify metabolomic signatures characterizing consumption of unprocessed red meat and processed meat and whether such signatures are associated with IHD risk.

Background: For forty years, there has been growing uncertainty about whether Hill's horseshoe bat () still persists in Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda. Only known from one small area within the National Park, is listed as Critically Endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), based on its extremely small geographic range and presumed low number of mature individuals. Here, we present and describe bat species occurrence data contributed to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) that we collected as part of a long-term collaborative project to rediscover this lost species.

Novel 6-bromo-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine derivatives (-, -1, and , -) have been synthesized based on a developed systematic approach involving the condensation of 5-Bromo-2,3-diaminopyridine with a suitable aromatic aldehyde in the presence of molecular iodine in water, followed by alkylation reactions using different alkyl dibromide agents. The synthesized compounds were characterized by the NMR spectroscopy technique. The structures of , , and were confirmed using monocrystalline X-ray crystallography.

Single-atom alloys (SAAs) have drawn significant attention in recent years due to their excellent catalytic properties. Controlling the geometry and electronic structure of this type of localized catalytic active site is of fundamental and technological importance. Dual-atom alloys (DAAs) consisting of a heterometallic dimer embedded in the surface layer of a metal host would bring increased tunability and a larger active site, as compared to SAAs.

Cell lines represent an essential tool used in preclinical research. Most hematologic malignancies have a wide array of cell lines representing their respective molecular and pathologic spectra. In mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), cell lines become specifically valuable in view of the heterogeneity of this disease.

The majority of the women in prisons comes from the poorest strata of society with limited access to education, income and health services. This contributes to the fact that female prisoners have a higher burden of adverse health events than both male prisoners and women in general population We objectived to estimate the prevalence of different morbidities and risk factors among female prisoners in Brazil. A total of 1,327 women were recruited in this cross-sectional study.

Interpretation of radar sounder reflections to infer the structure and composition of the martian polar caps depends on whether bright returns correspond to single packed dust layers or a more finely layered structure. Reflections from multiple layers can create strong resonant scattering (interference) effects that impact analyses of radargram reflectors and inference of dielectric contrast. We identify resonant behavior for an areally extensive reflector in the north polar layered deposits from Shallow Radar data processed in two frequency bands.

Activation of the Simulator of Interferon Genes (STING) system by mitochondrial (mt) DNA can upregulate type 1 interferon genes and enhance immune responses to combat bacterial and viral infections. In cancers, the tumor-derived DNA activates STING leading to upregulation of IFN-beta and induction of antitumor T cells. The entire mtDNA from the cell lines was sequenced using next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology with independent sequencing of both strands in both directions, allowing identification of low-frequency heteroplasmy SNPs.

Objective: To quantify the association between the prevalence of population hypertension control and ischemic heart disease (IHD) and stroke mortality in 36 countries of the Americas from 1990 to 2019.
Methods: This ecologic study uses the prevalence of hypertension, awareness, treatment, and control from the NCD-RisC and IHD and stroke mortality from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019. Regression analysis was used to assess time trends and the association between population hypertension control and mortality.

Background In people with peripheral artery disease, post hoc analyses of the LITE (Low Intensity Exercise Intervention in Peripheral Artery Disease) randomized trial were conducted to evaluate the effects of walking exercise at a pace inducing ischemic leg symptoms on walking velocity and the Short Physical Performance Battery, compared with walking exercise without ischemic leg symptoms and compared with a nonexercising control group. Methods and Results Participants with peripheral artery disease were randomized to: home-based walking exercise that induced ischemic leg symptoms; home-based walking exercise conducted without ischemic leg symptoms; or a nonexercising control group for 12 months. Outcomes were change of walking velocity over 4 m and change of the Short Physical Performance Battery (0-12, with 12=best) at 6- and 12-month follow-up.

We report here the design, synthesis, and antiproliferative activity of three coordination complexes [Mn(pydco)(bpy)(HO)]·2HO (1), [Zn(bpy)(Hpydco)] (2), and [Zn(bpy)Cl(Hpydco)]·2HO (3) (Hpydco = pyridine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid -oxide, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine). Molecular structures of these complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. According to the structural analysis, 1-3 are discrete complexes containing - and -donor ligands (bpy and pydco) in which pydco can be coordinated to the metal centres the -oxide oxygen and one carboxylate oxygen to generate a six-membered chelate ring.
