Background There are limited data from clinical trials describing preoperative MRI features and performance in the evaluation of mammographically detected ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). Purpose To report qualitative MRI features of DCIS, MRI performance in the identification of additional disease, and associations of imaging features with pathologic, genomic, and surgical outcomes from the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group-American College of Radiology Imaging Network (ECOG-ACRIN) E4112 trial. Materials and Methods Secondary analyses of a multicenter prospective clinical trial from the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group included women with DCIS diagnosed with conventional imaging techniques (mammography and US), confirmed via core-needle biopsy (CNB), and enrolled between March 2015 and April 2016 who were candidates for wide local excision (WLE) based on conventional imaging and clinical examination results.

Rhbg is a nonerythroid membrane glycoprotein belonging to the Rh antigen family. In the kidney, Rhbg is expressed at the basolateral membrane of intercalated cells of the distal nephron and is involved in NH4+ transport. We investigated the substrate specificity of Rhbg by comparing transport of NH3/NH4+ with that of methyl amine (hydrochloride) (MA/MA+), often used to replace NH3/NH4+, in oocytes expressing Rhbg.

The pathways responsible for the rapid and sustained increases in [Ca(2+)](i) following activation of ANG II receptors (AT(1)) in renal vascular smooth muscle cells were evaluated using fluorescence microscopy. Resting intracellular calcium concentration [Ca(2+)](i) averaged 75 +/- 9 nM. The response to ANG II (100 nM) was characterized by a rapid initial increase of [Ca(2+)](i) by 74 +/- 6 nM (n = 35) followed by a decrease to a sustained level of 12 +/- 2 nM above baseline.

Expression of cell adhesion molecule in endothelial cells upon activation by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with the development of atherosclerotic vasculopathy. We postulated that induction of vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) by HIV-1 Tat protein in endothelial cells might represent an early event that could culminate in inflammatory cell recruitment and vascular injury. We determined the role of HIV-1 Tat protein in VCAM-1 expression in human pulmonary artery endothelial cells (HPAEC).

The clinical significance of bronchoscopy washing cultures for bacteria had been questioned before the era of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), and the procedure was felt to be misleading more than helpful. Little has been mentioned of its utility in AIDS patients undergoing fiberoptic bronchoscopy. The correlation of these cultures was retrospectively reviewed for 30 bronchoscopies performed in 26 patients with advanced AIDS related illnesses.

We have reported that allicin, a constituent of garlic oil, has no effect on the activities of platelet cyclooxygenase or thromboxane synthase, or vascular PGI2 synthase. The effect of allicin on glutathione (GSH) dependent PGH2 to PGE2 isomerase is unknown. We therefore studied the effect of allicin on PGE2 biosynthesis in a murine mammary adenocarcinoma cell line (No 4526).
