Background: Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is the most common liver condition during pregnancy, associated with adverse outcomes for both mother and fetus. While inflammatory markers are important predictors in oncology and cardiovascular disease, their role in ICP remains unclear. This study investigates changes in platelet parameters and blood-derived inflammatory markers around the onset of ICP and evaluates their potential as independent risk factors.

Objective: To identify risk factors associated with progressive hemorrhagic injury (PHI) in patients with isolated traumatic brain injury (TBI) and to develop prognostic models for predicting patient outcomes.
Methods: A total of 137 patients with isolated TBI who underwent additional CT scans were included in the retrospective study. Single-factor analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were performed to identify significant risk factors associated with PHI development.

Abdominal pain is a common presenting symptom among patients visiting the hospital. A wide range of differential diagnoses are associated with this presentation, some of which are more uncommon than others, and require a higher degree of clinical suspicion and radiological excellence to diagnose. Although clinicians rely on physical assessment, examining a patient who is agitated and non-cooperative sometimes limits the physical exam findings, making these diagnoses even more challenging.

Background: Liver transplant (LT) patients face various challenges, including an increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) for a variety of reasons, with 70% of LT recipients having one cardiovascular event. Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) remains one of the most commonly performed major surgical procedures in the United States, with 20-30% of LT patients requiring a CABG. Many studies have analyzed when to perform a CABG and CAD workup pre-LT, but this population remains a problem.

Pheochromocytoma is a catecholamine-secreting tumor that arises from the medullary chromaffin cells but can rarely be extra-adrenal in origin. We present a case of a 16-year-old female patient with uncontrolled hypertension, despite being on lisinopril and metoprolol, and associated left-sided chest pain, recurrent headaches, and an unintentional weight loss of 10 pounds in one month. Laboratory work-up showed a markedly elevated plasma metanephrine level of 4463.

The novel amyloid-beta, p-Tau, and neurofilament light chain (ATN) classification scheme has become a promising system for clinically detecting and diagnosing Alzheimer's disease (AD). In addition to its utility in Alzheimer's diagnosis and treatment, the ATN framework may also have clinical relevance in identifying non-Alzheimer's pathologies. In this study conducted at Broadlawns Geriatric and Memory Center, 92 amyloid-negative profiles out of 182 patients with an ATN framework were categorized into subjective cognitive impairment (SCI), non-amnestic mild cognitive impairment (non-amnestic MCI), amnestic MCI, Alzheimer's dementia, vascular dementia, mixed dementia, unspecified dementia, or other memory changes based on diagnoses written in the chart.

Introduction Breast cancer is considered the most common malignant tumor in women, and incidence rates have risen progressively over the last decades. Modified radical mastectomy (MRM) is an effective treatment option. This research sought to establish the frequency, causes, and distribution of postoperative complications that are associated with MRM in the Pakistani population suffering from breast cancer.

Introduction: This study sought to investigate the impact of the area deprivation index (ADI) on the treatment timeline from carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) to carpal tunnel release (CTR). We hypothesize that increased social deprivation will correlate with increased time between care milestones from presentation to surgery.
Methods: This is a retrospective review of patients diagnosed with CTS who underwent CTR at a single academic institution.

Background Heart failure (HF) is commonly managed by addressing water and sodium (Na) balance, with arterial circulation playing a major role in influencing renal Na and water excretion. Recently, chloride (Cl) has been recognized as an important factor in HF, associated with volume regulation and its modulation of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) activity through macula densa signaling, which impacts Na retention and neurohormonal activation. Acetazolamide, a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, can enhance decongestion in HF by increasing urinary Na and Cl excretion when added to loop diuretics, a mechanism supported by prior studies demonstrating improved urine output and decongestion.

Introduction: Unipolar and bipolar mood disorders in older adults are accompanied by cognitive impairment, including executive dysfunction, with a severe impact on daily life. Up and till now, strategies to improve cognitive functioning in late-life mood disorders (LLMD) are sparse. Therefore, we aimed to assess the efficacy of adaptive, computerized cognitive training (CT) on executive and subjective cognitive functioning in LLMD.

Background: Accurate diagnosis of breast cancer is of great importance to improve the prognosis of patients. Artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted diagnostic system for breast ultrasound is gradually being applied in the identification of benign and malignant breast lesions. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance and optimal application of AIassisted ultrasonography for breast lesions in clinical setting.

Background: Multifocality is a distinctive feature of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC); however, the biological behavior of PTC and its optimal management strategy remain unclear. The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical features and prognostic differences of multifocal papillary carcinoma and to guide the precise treatment of multifocal papillary carcinoma.
Methods: The medical records of 1,139 patients with PTC who had undergone total or hemi-thyroidectomy between April and October 2013 at the Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital were reviewed.

Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is the third most common endocrine disease, affecting predominantly postmenopausal women. About 85% of cases are caused by a solitary parathyroid adenoma which leads to a hypersecretion of the parathyroid hormone (PTH) and consequently to elevated serum calcium concentrations. Parathyroidectomy is the only curative treatment.

Methods: In this retrospective study, we examined clinical characteristics, number of visits (telehealth and in-person) and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) metrics for older adults (≥65 years) with T1D from electronic health records during the pre-COVID-19 pandemic (March 1, 2019-March 1, 2020; in-person) and pandemic (September 1, 2020-August 31, 2021; hybrid) periods. Main outcomes were the number of visits and changes in glycaemic control (HbA1c), and in a sub-group of older adults using CGM, changes in CGM metrics between in-person and hybrid care.

Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal disease caused by variants in the gene. Although Fabry disease is X-linked, gene variants in females can exhibit a wide range of symptoms, challenging the traditional view of Fabry as an X-linked recessive disease. A family is presented here with a 36-year-old female who is symptomatic with chronic kidney disease and her oligosymptomatic 70-year-old father, both of whom have a heterozygous and hemizygous GLA pathogenic variant, respectively, c.

Healthcare professionals recommending dietary changes to patients often find that institutional settings-businesses, universities, long-term care facilities, correctional institutions, among others-may not provide the healthful foods that healthcare professionals recommend. Moreover, such institutions encounter an increasing diversity of dietary restrictions, based on allergies, intolerances, religious mandates, or other reasons, that may be challenging to satisfy. To address these issues, experts in health, dietetics, culinary arts, religion, and ethics developed a simple set of guidelines that aim to meet the widest possible range of dietary needs.

Challenges in acquiring weights in critically ill patients include clinical instability, limited equipment, and lack of appropriate orders in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Methods: We implemented interventions that targeted EMR weight orders and actual collection of weights in the 42-bed PICU of a children's hospital.
