Masticatory muscles are composed of the temporalis, masseter, and pterygoid muscles in mammals. Each muscle has a different origin on the skull and insertion on the mandible; thus, all masticatory muscles contract in different directions. Saliva has antioxidant properties, washes away food residues, and helps maintain the oral environment; thus, decreased saliva secretion can have negative consequences. This study examined how slow-soluble innovative candy, named low-solubility amorphous material, affects oral indices such as saliva secretion and halitosis in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover comparative study. Twenty-four healthy individuals with low saliva production were given one piece of low-solubility amorphous material or placebo candy and their saliva secretion was measured over 20 min.

Objectives: This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the age-related development of five major oral functions-tongue pressure, lip pressure, masticatory efficiency, bite force, and occlusal contact area-in subjects aged 5-20 years.
Material And Methods: Ninety-two subjects were divided into four age groups: 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, and 17-20 years. Oral functions were evaluated using standardized methods, including Chew Check Gum for assessing masticatory efficiency, Dental Prescale II for measuring occlusal force and contact area, JMS tongue pressure measuring device for evaluating tongue pressure, and Ripple-Kun for measuring lip pressure.

Although toothed whales have dentition peculiar to mammals, little attention has been paid to the periodontal tissues that support these characteristic teeth. In this study, we clarified the anatomical characteristics of the periodontal tissue in several species of Delphinidae through three-dimensional observation using micro-computed tomography, histological observations using decalcified sections, and immunohistochemical analysis. The results indicated that the teeth and the periodontal tissues of dolphins are morphologically unique among mammals.

Purpose: Pleuropulmonary blastoma (PPB) is an infrequently encountered childhood malignant intrathoracic neoplasm associated with unfavorable clinical behavior. Since a well-characterized preclinical model is essential for developing competent agents for PPB, we aim to establish and characterize the world's first cell line of PPB, and attempt to perform the cytotoxicity assay on the PPB cell line.
Experimental Design: The index case is a 2-year-old female who developed a right thoracic tumor that was surgically removed and treated with multi-agent chemotherapy.

Objectives: This crossover randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) aimed to evaluate the clinical applicability of three-dimensional printed dentures (CAD-3DPs) by comparing two fabricated complete dentures, CAD-3DPs and conventional complete dentures (CCDs), and assess the non-inferiority of CAD-3DPs. The hypothesis was that CAD-3DPs would be inferior to CCDs in terms of the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and patient satisfaction.

G9a is a histone methyltransferase that catalyzes the methylation of histone 3 lysine 9 (H3K9), which is involved in the regulation of gene expression. We had previously reported that G9a is expressed in developing tendons in vivo and in vitro and that G9a-deficient tenocytes show impaired proliferation and differentiation in vitro. Calcification plays a key role in biological processes, and breakdown of the regulatory mechanism results in a pathological state such as ectopic calcification. We hypothesized that ENPP1, the enzyme that produces the calcification inhibitor pyrophosphate, is transcriptionally regulated by Nrf2, and that Nrf2 activation augments ENPP1 expression to inhibit ectopic calcification. The biological heterogeneity of neuroblastoma underscores the need for an in vitro model of each molecularly defined subgroup to investigate tumorigenesis and develop targeted therapies. We have established a permanently growing cell line from a 12-year-old girl who developed a late recurrent stage MS, MDM2-amplified neuroblastoma arising in the liver and performed histological, molecular, cytogenetic, exome, and telomere analyses of the recurrent tumor and the cell line. On histology, the recurrent tumor was immunoreactive for TP53, CDKN1A, and MDM2.

Introduction: Many mouse models for autoimmune diseases also have lesions in non-target organs, which may make it difficult to determine whether the target organ lesion is primary or secondary. Hyposalivation has conventionally been studied using genetically modified mouse models for Sjogren's syndrome as well as spontaneous autoimmune mice with systemic lesions, none of which has salivary gland-specific injury.
Methods: In this study, we established a salivary gland-specific injury mouse model using the toxin receptor-mediated cell knockout (TRECK) system by gene modification with the transgene composed of the 5' untranslated region of human salivary mucin gene MUC7 (highly expressed specifically in human salivary gland) inserted at the upstream of hHB-EGF (diphtheria toxin receptor) in the TRECK vector.
