The pathology of idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH), a disease characterized by papillary edema and increased intracranial pressure (IICP), is not yet understood; this disease significantly affects quality of life due to symptoms including vision loss, headache, and pulsatile tinnitus. By contrast, superficial siderosis (SS), a disorder in which hemosiderin is deposited on the surface of the cerebral cortex and cerebellum, potentially causes cerebellar ataxia or hearing loss. So far, no cases of IIH with infratentorial and supratentorial cortical SS have been reported.

In contrast to other cancer research areas, the development of chemotherapy and radiotherapy for meningiomas has been challenging, lacking standardized criteria for assessing treatment response and progression. Although efforts by RANO have proposed evaluation criteria, a consensus on effective evaluation parameters for meningiomas remains elusive. This paper underscores the importance of establishing efficacy endpoints in clinical trials, compares efficacy assessment in meningioma research with other solid tumor areas, and outlines the challenges ahead in meningioma research.

Background: Appropriate exploratory efficacy data from Phase I trials are vital for subsequent phases. Owing to the uniqueness of brain tumors (BTs), use of different strategies to evaluate efficacy is warranted. We studied exploratory efficacy evaluation in Phase I trials involving BTs.

Brain abscess is a pyogenic disease secondary to a bacterial, tuberculous, or fungal infection of the brain; thus, early detection and treatment are of crucial importance. Herein, we present a case of a brain abscess arising from dental sinusitis due to an incomplete infection defense mechanism linked to a post-fusion linear skull fracture. The patient initially presented with a persistent headache, which was diagnosed as frontal sinusitis.

Background: Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST)-based response rates are commonly used as efficacy endpoints in phase II clinical trials for solid tumors. However, no consensus has been reached concerning adequate efficacy endpoints for phase II clinical trials targeting meningioma. Irregularity of lesions after resection, and varying degrees of dysplasia and histologic subtypes make establishing an appropriate efficacy evaluation difficult.

We herein report a 45-year-old man with dentatorubropallidoluysian atrophy (DRPLA) who presented with mild dementia, ataxia, and involuntary movement and developed constipation, dysuria, and orthostatic hypotension. Thermography revealed an abnormal thermal response of the skin to cold stimulation. Skin temperature reflects the skin blood flow and is regulated by the sympathetic nervous system.

Lewy body-related α-synucleinopathy (Lewy pathology) has been reported in patients with myotonic dystrophy (DM) type 1 (DM1), but no detailed report has described the prevalence and extent of its occurrence. We studied consecutive full autopsy cases of DM1 at the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry (NCNP) Brain Bank for intractable psychiatric and neurological disorders. Thirty-two cases, genetically determined to be DM1 (59.

Background: To determine the radiographic characteristics of wrists in idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome patients, we compared the radiographic parameters of the wrists between carpal tunnel syndrome patients and non-symptomatic controls.
Methods: We evaluated radiographic parameters of 94 wrists of 62 idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome patients and 94 asymptomatic wrists of 94 controls. Carpal tunnel syndrome was diagnosed by clinical findings and nerve conduction studies.
