Objective: The aim of this study was to explore the factors affecting the major complications and the impacts of preoperative renal function on the incidence of complications in radical cystectomy procedures.
Methods: A retrospective review of 705 patients who received radical cystectomy between 2006 and 2021 was conducted. The 90-day complications of patients after a radical cystectomy were reported and the Clavien-Dindo classification (CDC) was used for grading complications.

Objective: To investigate the value of adjusted prostate-specific antigen density (PSAD) in the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PCa).
Methods: Data from 410 patients who underwent transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy were retrospectively analyzed in Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital between November 2014 and March 2024. Background: The comprehensive treatment strategy, mainly cytoreductive surgery (CRS) plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), combined with systemic and intraperitoneal chemotherapy, is the standard treatment for malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (MPM), which can significantly prolong the survival of patients. The aim of this study is to investigate the clinical significance of postoperative normothermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (NIPEC) in MPM patients.
Methods: Data of 152 MPM patients who underwent CRS + HIPEC and postoperative intravenous chemotherapy were retrospectively analyzed.

Purpose: During the second stage surgery for anorectal malformations (ARM), patients whose distal intestine of the colostomy is particularly short underwent laparoscopic-assisted distal colon excision and proximal colon pull-through anorectoplasty (PCPARP). This study aimed to discuss the outcomes of PCPARP after colostomy in patients with ARM.
Methods: This is a single-center propensity score-matched (PSM) study which was retrospectively initiated patients with intermediate- or high-type ARM who underwent laparoscopic surgery from June 2007 to December 2018.

Background: Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is treated with transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) followed by intravesical instillation of chemotherapy or Bacillus Calmette-Guérin therapy. However, these treatments have a high recurrence rate and side effects, emphasizing the need for alternative instillations. Previously, we revealed that expanded allogeneic human natural killer (NK) cells from peripheral blood are a promising cellular therapy for prostate cancer.

Background: Positive surgical margins (PSM) is not only an independent risk factor for recurrence, metastasis, and prognosis, but also an important indicator of adjuvant therapy for prostate cancer (PCa) patients treated with radical prostatectomy (RP). At present, there are few reports analyzing risk factors of PSM in laparoscopic RP (LRP), especially for those PCa cases who accepted neoadjuvant hormonal therapy (NHT). Hence, the aim of the current study was to explore risk factors for PSM after LRP in PCa patients with and without NHT.

Introduction: The goal of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of needle-perc-assisted endoscopic surgery (NAES) in the treatment of staghorn renal stones via a single-center prospective randomized controlled study.
Methods: A total of 219 patients with partial or complete staghorn renal stones were prospectively randomized into two groups between January 2020 and April 2022. In group A (n = 112), patients were treated with traditional standard access, multiple if necessary, and in group B (n = 107), only one standard access was made, and needle-perc was assisted to remove the residual stones in the same stage.

Purpose: The goal of this study is to compare traditional percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and needle-perc-assisted endoscopic surgery (NAES) in the treatment of complicated solitary kidney stones via a single-center randomized controlled prospective study.
Methods: A total of patients with complex (Guy's score II-IV) solitary kidney stones between July 2019 to June 2022 were enrolled in the study. Participants were stratified into two groups: needle-perc-assisted endoscopic surgery group (group A) and traditional PCNL group (group B).

Accurate and robust prostate segmentation in transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) images is of great interest for ultrasound-guided brachytherapy for prostate cancer. However, the current practice of manual segmentation is difficult, time-consuming, and prone to errors. To overcome these challenges, we developed an accurate prostate segmentation framework (A-ProSeg) for TRUS images.

Castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) patients have a 14-month median survival, emphasizing the need for alternative treatments. Previously, we demonstrated that expanded high-dose natural killer (NK) cells derived from human peripheral blood exhibit therapeutic efficacy against CRPC. However, which immune checkpoint blockade promotes NK cell antitumor immunity against CRPC remains unknown.

Detecting the organ boundary in an ultrasound image is challenging because of the poor contrast of ultrasound images and the existence of imaging artifacts. In this study, we developed a coarse-to-refinement architecture for multi-organ ultrasound segmentation. First, we integrated the principal curve-based projection stage into an improved neutrosophic mean shift-based algorithm to acquire the data sequence, for which we utilized a limited amount of prior seed point information as the approximate initialization.

Purpose: Ectopic distal location of papilla of Vater (EDLPV) is an obvious pathological feature of choledochal cyst (CDC). This study aimed to investigate the correlation between EDLPV and clinical characteristics of CDCs.
Methods: Three groups were studied: Group 1 (G1), papilla in the middle third of second part of duodenum (n = 38); Group 2 (G2), papilla from the distal third of second part to the beginning of third part of duodenum (n = 168); Group 3 (G3), papilla from the middle of third part to fourth part of duodenum (n = 121).

Introduction: The aim of the study was to assess the safety and efficacy of ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) for complex renal stones when performed in a modified supine position.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the charts of patients who underwent PCNL for complex renal stones at our institution between August 2018 and December 2021. During this time, 188 consecutive patients underwent US-guided PCNL in the prone position (P group, n = 129) or in the flank-free modified supine position (S group, n = 59).

Accurate prostate segmentation in ultrasound images is crucial for the clinical diagnosis of prostate cancer and for performing image-guided prostate surgery. However, it is challenging to accurately segment the prostate in ultrasound images due to their low signal-to-noise ratio, the low contrast between the prostate and neighboring tissues, and the diffuse or invisible boundaries of the prostate. In this paper, we develop a novel hybrid method for segmentation of the prostate in ultrasound images that generates accurate contours of the prostate from a range of datasets.

Adult degenerative scoliosis (ADS) is a serious disease that often affects middle-aged and elderly people. ADS does not only cause sagittal and coronal deformity of the lumbar spine but also causes severe back and leg pain secondary to the compression of the neural structures. Open surgery remains the main method for correcting the occurring deformity and decompression of the neural structures; however, its benefit is limited in cases of large trauma.

Purpose: Patients with choledochal cyst (CDC) develop liver fibrosis, especially advanced fibrosis without prompt surgery. This study validated the aspartate aminotransferase (AST)-to-platelet ratio index (APRI) and Fibrosis-4 index (FIB-4) and constructed a model for predicting advanced fibrosis in pediatric CDCs.
Methods: Between January 2020 and March 2022, 330 CDCs (advanced fibrosis: 34, Ludwig staging 3-4; non-advanced fibrosis: 296, Ludwig staging 0-2) were reviewed.

Introduction: The high incidence of unsafe anaesthetic care leads to adverse events and increases the burden on patient safety. An important reason for unsafe anaesthesia care is the lack of non-technical skills (NTS), which are defined as personal cognitive, social or interpersonal skills, among anaesthetists. The anaesthetists' NTS (ANTS) behavioural marker system has been widely used to evaluate and improve anaesthetists' behavioural performance to ensure patient safety.
