The natural Fisetin and its derivatives have been shown to have effective bioactivity and strong pharmacological profile, which is continuously drawing the interest of therapeutic applications to the development of new biomolecules against Breast cancer and Monkeypox, and Marburg viral infection, while computational approaches and the study of their structure-activity relationship (SAR) are the most eloquent and reliable platform for performing their hypothetical profile renovation. So, the main perspective of this investigation is to evaluate dual function of Fisetin and its derivatives against both virus and cancerous target. First and foremost, the prediction of activity spectra for materials (PASS) valuation has provided preliminary data on the antiviral, antibacterial, antiparasitic, and anti-cancer possibilities of the mentioned compounds.

November 2023

Department of Crop Science, College of Sanghuh Life Science, Konkuk University, Seoul 05029, Republic of Korea.

Background: The IL-17 (interleukin 17) family consists of six structurally related pro-inflammatory cytokines, namely IL-17A to IL-17F. These cytokines have garnered significant scientific interest due to their pivotal role in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Notably, a specific subset of T-cells expresses IL-17 family members, highlighting their importance in immune responses against microbial infections.

P-glycoprotein (P-gp) is known as the "" because it contributes to tumor resistance to several different classes of anticancer drugs. The effectiveness of such polymers in treating cancer and delivering drugs has been shown in a wide range of and experiments. The primary objective of the present study was to investigate the inhibitory effects of several naturally occurring polymers on P-gp efflux, as it is known that P-gp inhibition can impede the elimination of medications.

Application of greener pretreatment technology using robust ligninolytic bacteria for short duration to deconstruct rice straw and enhance bioethanol production is currently lacking. The objective of this study is to characterize three bacterial strains isolated from the milieux of cow rumen and forest soil and explore their capabilities of breaking down lignocellulose - an essential process in bioethanol production. Using biochemical and genomic analyses these strains were identified as Bacillus sp.

Monkeypox genome mutation analysis using a timeseries model based on long short-term memory.

PLoS One

August 2023

Centre for Applied Physics and Radiation Technologies, School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University, Selangor, Malaysia.

Monkeypox is a double-stranded DNA virus with an envelope and is a member of the Poxviridae family's Orthopoxvirus genus. This virus can transmit from human to human through direct contact with respiratory secretions, infected animals and humans, or contaminated objects and causing mutations in the human body. In May 2022, several monkeypox affected cases were found in many countries.

Background & Aims: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a complex trait with an estimated prevalence of 25% globally. We aimed to identify the genetic variant underlying a four-generation family with progressive NAFLD leading to cirrhosis, decompensation, and development of hepatocellular carcinoma in the absence of common risk factors such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Methods: Exome sequencing and genome comparisons were used to identify the likely causal variant.

Background: Few metrics exist to describe phenotypic diversity within ophthalmic imaging datasets, with researchers often using ethnicity as an inappropriate marker for biological variability.

Methods: We derived a continuous, measured metric, the retinal pigment score (RPS), that quantifies the degree of pigmentation from a colour fundus photograph of the eye. RPS was validated using two large epidemiological studies with demographic and genetic data (UK Biobank and EPIC-Norfolk Study).

Article Synopsis
  • Acute heart failure leads to many urgent hospitalizations, increasing the risk of death and rehospitalization, which highlights the need for careful management before and after discharge.
  • * Optimizing patient care during and after hospitalization can help prevent future rehospitalizations by addressing lingering symptoms of heart failure and ensuring proper medication adjustments.
  • * The Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology aims to share new insights on managing patients with acute heart failure, focusing on the critical time around hospital discharge.

This paper seeks to explore how hospitals can be reconfigured to adopt more 'health-promoting' approaches and values. Specifically, the paper focuses on the role of hospital chaplaincy and argues that spiritual care should be considered alongside other health domains. Using semi-structured interviews, the aim of the paper is to explore the experiences of patients who accepted (n = 10) and declined (n = 10) hospital chaplaincy services.

Therapeutic Potential and Molecular Mechanisms of the Multitargeted Flavonoid Fisetin.

Curr Top Med Chem

August 2023

Department of Crop Science, College of Sanghuh Life Science, Konkuk University, Seoul, 05029, South Korea.

Flavonoids effectively treat cancer, inflammatory disorders (cardiovascular and nervous systems), and oxidative stress. Fisetin, derived from fruits and vegetables, suppresses cancer growth by altering cell cycle parameters that lead to cell death and angiogenesis without affecting healthy cells. Clinical trials are needed in humans to prove the effectiveness of this treatment for a wide range of cancers.

An increasing number of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with life-threatening bleeding are using oral anticoagulants, such as warfarin, Factor IIa and Factor Xa inhibitors. Achieving rapid and controlled haemostasis is critically important to save the patient's life. This multidisciplinary consensus paper provides a systematic and pragmatic approach to the management of anticoagulated patients with severe bleeding at the ED.

Patterns of chemotherapy use and outcomes in advanced non-small cell lung cancer by age in England: A retrospective analysis of the population-based Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) dataset.

J Geriatr Oncol

September 2023

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust/University of Leeds, Department of Clinical Oncology, Leeds, United Kingdom; Leeds Institute of Medical Research at St James's, School of Medicine, University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

Introduction: We described the patterns of chemotherapy use and outcomes in patients diagnosed with stage III or IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by age in England.

Materials And Methods: In this retrospective population-based study, we included 20,716 (62% stage IV) patients with NSCLC diagnosed from 2014 to 2017 treated with chemotherapy. We used the Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) dataset to describe changes in treatment plan and estimated 30 and 90-day mortality rates and median, 6-, and 12-month overall survival (OS) using Kaplan Meier estimator for patients aged <75 and ≥ 75 by stage.
