As a biologic reservoir of (), one-quarter of the world population is infected with the well-known latent tuberculosis (LTBI). About 5-10% of LTBI patients will progress to active disease in the first years after primary infection and, despite using the recommended treatment, 20% can still reactivate the infection. A new LTBI treatment could minimize adverse effects and antibiotic resistance that can occur when the same drug is used to treat the latent and active disease.

To evaluate the histomorphometric skin changes over aging patients with autopsied acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). In 29 skin fragments of autopsied elderly (older than 50 years) and nonelderly patients with AIDS, epidermal thickness, the number of layers, the diameter of cells, the percentage of collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis, and the number and morphology of Langerhans cells were assessed. Statistical analysis was performed by SigmaStat 2.

Objective: To describe the dimensions and amount of collagen in the aortic root of autopsied fetuses at different gestational ages.
Material And Methods: 40 samples of aortic roots were selected from autopsied fetuses with gestational ages ranging between 20 and 40 weeks. The thickness and the area of the aortic wall were analyzed on slides stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin, and the collagen was quantified on slides stained with Picrosirius, by using an image analyzing system.

Aim: Sex differences in exercise responses have implications for understanding sex-specific adaptations to exercise for performance and health. The purpose of this study was to verify the acute effects of a full body resistance exercise protocol on growth hormone (GH), testosterone (TT), cortisol, interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10 in men and women.
Methods: Fourteen healthy volunteers (7 men and 7 women taking oral contraceptives) active and recreationally trained in resistance exercise were subjected to a resistance exercise session (3x8-10 RM) composed of 10 exercises with rests periods of 90-120 seconds between sets.

The present study aimed to determine the importance of resistance training frequency on body composition and metabolics and inflammatory markers in sedentary overweight postmenopausal women (PW). Thirty subjects finished the resistance training-protocol (60% to 80% of 1-RM) and had all the evaluations (anthropometry, strength, food intake and biochemistry) done. Groups were assembled according to the week-frequency of attended sessions (G1-1 day/wk, N.

Background: After menopause, rapid bone mass loss occurs in response to hypoestrogenism. Several studies suggest that muscle mass and bone mineral density (BMD) are positively associated in postmenopausal women. Therefore, it may be assumed that postmenopausal low appendicular muscle mass (aMM) can increase BMD loss in a short period of time.
