Which patient benefit most from minimally invasive direct anterior approach total hip arthroplasty in terms of perioperative blood loss? A retrospective comparative study from a cohort of patients with primary degenerative hips.

Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a successful surgery, but despite the advancements in anesthesiology and orthopedics, sometimes blood transfusions are required to manage the anemia due to the blood loss, involving a substantial number of patients. The aim of this retrospective comparative study is to define how the choice of the surgical approach, either direct anterior (DA) or posterolateral (PL), may influence the postoperative blood loss and the need for transfusion in THA.

Materials And Methods: Data collection was carried out retrospectively of THAs performed between 2016 and 2021 on primary hip osteoarthritis treated by DA or with PL approach.

Background: Lateral movements are challenging for 2D video-analysis and are therefore often omitted in functional tests for Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury risk assessment. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between frontal and transverse plane angles obtained from 2D video-analysis and knee abduction moment (KAM) from gold standard 3D motion capture in a 180° lateral cut task. The hypothesis was that 2D angles other than the knee joint effectively explain variations in KAM.

Piezoelectric ultrasonic debridement as new tool for biofilm removal from orthopedic implants: A study in vitro.

Pulse lavage (PL) debridement is the standard treatment used in Debridement, Antibiotics and Implant Retention (DAIR) for bacterial biofilm removal during acute and early postoperative cases of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The failure rate of DAIR is still high due to the inadequacy of PL in removing the biofilm. Ultrasound-based techniques are a well-established tool for PJI diagnosis due to their ability to completely eradicate the biofilm from implant surfaces.

Longitudinal Gait Analysis of a Transfemoral Amputee Patient: Single-Case Report from Socket-Type to Osseointegrated Prosthesis.

The aim of the present case report was to provide a longitudinal functional assessment of a patient with transfemoral amputation from the preoperative status with socket-type prosthesis to one year after the osseointegration surgery. A 44 years-old male patient was scheduled for osseointegration surgery 17 years after transfemoral amputation. Gait analysis was performed through 15 wearable inertial sensors (MTw Awinda, Xsens) before surgery (patient wearing his standard socket-type prosthesis) and at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-ups after osseointegration.

Retrograde intramedullary nail entry point for tibio-talo-calcaneal arthrodesis: a review of anatomical studies.

Purpose: Tibio-talo-calcaneal arthrodesis (TTCA) is considered a safe and valuable option for end-stage tibiotalar and subtalar arthritis, and usually is performed with a retrograde intramedullary nail. Although the good results reported, potential complications may be related to retrograde nail entry point. Aim of this systematic review is to analyze in cadaveric studies the risk of iatrogenic injuries related to different entry points and different retrograde intramedullary nail design when performing TTCA.

Iatrogenic Lesion of the Lateral Plantar Artery following Plantar Fasciotomy for Cavus Foot Correction - A Case Report.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to report a patient with a iatrogenic lesion of the lateral plantar artery following plantar fasciotomy (PF) for cavus foot correction, an extremely rare complication.

Case Report: A 13-year-old male patient with bilateral cavus foot was surgically treated at the right foot. At 36 days follow-up, after plaster cast removal, a massive soft plantar bulge was located on the medial aspect of the foot.

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common causes of pain and disability. At present, treatment and interventions for acute and chronic low back pain often fail to provide sufficient levels of pain relief, and full functional restoration can be challenging. Research about the prevalence of fibromyalgia in podiatric patients is limited, with data suggesting potentially higher estimates and greater foot impairment in patients with fibromyalgia compared to healthy individuals. How to perform correct templating in total hip replacement.
