Introduction: Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a successful surgery, but despite the advancements in anesthesiology and orthopedics, sometimes blood transfusions are required to manage the anemia due to the blood loss, involving a substantial number of patients. The aim of this retrospective comparative study is to define how the choice of the surgical approach, either direct anterior (DA) or posterolateral (PL), may influence the postoperative blood loss and the need for transfusion in THA.
Materials And Methods: Data collection was carried out retrospectively of THAs performed between 2016 and 2021 on primary hip osteoarthritis treated by DA or with PL approach.

Background: Lateral movements are challenging for 2D video-analysis and are therefore often omitted in functional tests for Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury risk assessment. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between frontal and transverse plane angles obtained from 2D video-analysis and knee abduction moment (KAM) from gold standard 3D motion capture in a 180° lateral cut task. The hypothesis was that 2D angles other than the knee joint effectively explain variations in KAM.

The aim of the present study is to elucidate preoperative risk factors for inadequate correction of coronal imbalance and/or creation of new postoperative coronal imbalance (iatrogenic CIB) in patients who undergo surgery for Adult Spinal Deformity (ASD). A retrospective review of adults who underwent posterior spinal fusion (>5 levels) for ASD was performed. Patients were divided into groups according to the Nanjing classification: type A (CSVL < 3 cm), type B (CSVL > 3 cm and C7 plumb line shifted to major curve concavity), and type C (CSVL > 3 cm and C7 plumb line shifted to major curve convexity).

Purpose: Total knee replacement (TKR) failure represents a hard challenge for knee surgeons. TKR failure can be managed in revision with different constraint, related with soft and bone knee damages. The choice of the right constraint for every failure cause represents a not summarized entity.

Study Design: This was a retrospective study.
Objective: Since a better understanding of modifiable risk factors for proximal junctional disease (PJD) may lead to improved postoperative outcomes and less need of revision surgery, the aim of the present study is to determine whether sarcopenia and osteopenia are independent risk factors for PJD in patients undergoing lumbar fusion.
Summary Of Background Data: PJD is one of the most frequent complications following posterior instrumented spinal fusion.

Purpose: Subtalar arthroereisis is a minimally-invasive technique for the treatment of flexible flatfoot. Some issues regarding the procedure are still debated, such as post-operative management. The aim of this study is to offer a review of the pertaining literature to identify current post-operative protocols and describe possible differences among them.

Pulse lavage (PL) debridement is the standard treatment used in Debridement, Antibiotics and Implant Retention (DAIR) for bacterial biofilm removal during acute and early postoperative cases of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The failure rate of DAIR is still high due to the inadequacy of PL in removing the biofilm. Ultrasound-based techniques are a well-established tool for PJI diagnosis due to their ability to completely eradicate the biofilm from implant surfaces.

The aim of the present case report was to provide a longitudinal functional assessment of a patient with transfemoral amputation from the preoperative status with socket-type prosthesis to one year after the osseointegration surgery. A 44 years-old male patient was scheduled for osseointegration surgery 17 years after transfemoral amputation. Gait analysis was performed through 15 wearable inertial sensors (MTw Awinda, Xsens) before surgery (patient wearing his standard socket-type prosthesis) and at 3-, 6-, and 12-month follow-ups after osseointegration.

Background: The optimal surgical treatment of intra-articular calcaneal fractures (IACF) is still under debate. In the literature, results are based on clinical or radiographical findings. Few studies have evaluated the effect of patient expectations on patient-reported outcomes after surgery and little is known about outcomes directly reported by the patient who experienced it.

Objective: The aim of this study was to document the survival rate in the middle-aged patient group up to 65 years old and to compare it with other age groups of patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for knee osteoarthritis (OA).
Design: The Register of Orthopaedic Prosthetic Implants (RIPO) regional registry was used to analyze the results of patients <80 years old affected by primary OA and treated with TKA from 2000 to 2019. The database was investigated according to the age group: younger than 50 years, 50-65 years, or 66-79 years, with the aim to estimate revision surgeries and implant survivorship.

Background: Osteosarcopenia, a combination of osteopenia/osteoporosis and sarcopenia, is a common condition among older adults. While numerous studies and meta-analyses have been conducted on osteoporosis biomarkers, biomarker utility in osteosarcopenia still lacks evidence. Here, we carried out a systematic review to explore and analyze the potential clinical of circulating microRNAs (miRs) shared between osteoporosis/osteopenia and sarcopenia.

Purpose: Tibio-talo-calcaneal arthrodesis (TTCA) is considered a safe and valuable option for end-stage tibiotalar and subtalar arthritis, and usually is performed with a retrograde intramedullary nail. Although the good results reported, potential complications may be related to retrograde nail entry point. Aim of this systematic review is to analyze in cadaveric studies the risk of iatrogenic injuries related to different entry points and different retrograde intramedullary nail design when performing TTCA.

(1) Background: Histological diagnosis and tumor grading are major prognostic and predictive factors in soft tissue sarcomas (STS), as they dictate the treatment strategies with a direct impact on patient survival. This study aims to investigate the grading accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of Tru-Cut biopsy (TCB) in primary localized myxoid liposarcomas (MLs) of the extremities and its impact on patient prognosis. (2) Methods: Patients with ML undergoing TCB and a subsequent tumor resection between 2007 and 2021 were evaluated.

Pivoting sports expose athletes to a high risk of knee injuries, mainly due to mechanical overloading of the joint which shatters overall tissue integrity. The present study explored the magnitude of tibiofemoral contact forces (TFCF) in high-risk dynamic tasks. A novel musculoskeletal model with modifiable frontal plane knee alignment was developed to estimate the total, medial, and lateral TFCF developed during vigorous activities.

Background: Dynamic balance plays a key role in high-impact sports, such as CrossFit, where athletes are required to maintain balance in various weightlifting exercises. The loss of balance in these sport-specific movements may not only affect athlete performance, but also increase the risk of injuries.
Objectives: The aim of the study is to achieve greater insight into the balance and athlete position during the CrossFit training by means of inertial sensors, with a particular focus on the role of different custom foot orthoses (CFOs) in order to detect correlations with the role of the cavus foot.

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common causes of pain and disability. At present, treatment and interventions for acute and chronic low back pain often fail to provide sufficient levels of pain relief, and full functional restoration can be challenging. Considering the significant socio-economic burden and risk-to-benefit ratio of medical and surgical intervention in low back pain patients, the identification of reliable biomarkers such as epigenetic factors associated with low back pain could be useful in clinical practice.

Templating plays a key role in surgery that is often underestimated. There is a difference between planning and templating: in the first not only the hip is considered but involves the evaluation of the patient in its entirety. Templating instead consists of calculating the position of the implant in order to place it in the best possible position.
