BACKGROUND The most common neurological symptoms from cardiac myxoma-induced stroke include territories of middle cerebral arteries, rendering posterior stroke less common. Although transient global amnesia usually has a benign prognosis, amnesia in the setting of concerning cerebellar symptoms should raise the suspicion for posterior circulation involvement. Background: Transient global amnesia is a benign syndrome characterized by a sudden onset loss of anterograde amnesia with full recovery. Magnetic resonance of the brain including diffusion-weighted imaging of patients with transient global amnesia revealed the presence of punctate hyperintense signal abnormalities in the hippocampus.

Acute aortic dissection is a challenging diagnosis for emergency physicians because of its high mortality and wide range of clinical presentations. We report a case of a previously healthy man who presented with hyperfamiliarity for faces syndrome as the predominant symptom of a large type A aortic dissection diagnosed by computed tomography angiography in the emergency department. Different elements of his presentation suggested possible other diagnoses, including transient global amnesia and transient ischemic attack.

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a clinical syndrome characterized by the sudden onset of a temporary memory disorder with profound anterograde amnesia and a variable impairment of the past memory. Usually, the attacks are preceded by a precipitating event, last up to 24 h and are not associated with other neurological deficits. Diagnosis can be challenging because the identification of TGA requires the exclusion of some acute amnestic syndromes that occur in emergency situations and share structural or functional alterations of memory circuits.
