Enlarged perivascular spaces in the basal ganglia (BG-EPVS) share common vascular risk factors with atherosclerosis. However, little is known about the relationship between steno-occlusive middle cerebral artery (MCA) and BG-EPVS. In this cross-sectional study, we aimed to test the hypothesis that severe MCA stenosis or occlusion is associated with increased MRI-visible BG-EPVS.

In this study, our aim is to investigate the effect of lanthanum carbonate in chronic treatment renal failure complicated with hyperphosphatemia. Using methods with lanthanum carbonate, hyperphosphatemia, placebos, calcium carbonate, end-stage renal disease as keywords, we searched the Chinese Journal Full-text Database, Chinese sci-tech journal database, Wanfang Data knowledge service platform, web of science, PubMed, and other databases for literature quality; meta analysis was carried out after a subsequent evaluation. The meta analysis results showed a significant difference in the control of the blood phosphorus level between weighted mean difference WMD = -0.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy of needle-knife (NK) combined with etanercept (NKCE) in attenuating pain, inflammation, disease activity, and improving hip joint function in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients with hip joint involvement.Totally, 90 patients with active AS involving unilateral hip joint were enrolled and randomly assigned in 1:1:1 ratio to receive NKCE, NK or conventional drugs (control). The ESR, CRP, hip joint pain Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) score, bath ankylosing spondylitis disease activity index (BASDAI), bath ankylosing spondylitis functional index (BASFI), modified Harris hip score (mHHS), and range of motion (ROM) of affected hip joint were assessed at baseline (W0), after 1-week treatment (W1) and after 24-week treatment (W24).

Lung and systemic inflammation are associated with impaired lung function and increased mortality in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Theophylline and glucocorticoids have been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect in some respiratory diseases. However, corticosteroid insensitivity is a major barrier to the anti-inflammatory management of COPD.

Background: T1s, C2-7 lordosis, and C2-7 sagittal vertical axis (SVA) are the three most important sagittal parameters in the cervical spine. This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between classical sagittal alignment parameters and a new parameter, K-line tilt, and to study the impact of K-line tilt.

Material And Methods: A total of 72 patients who underwent adjacent two-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) were retrospectively analyzed.

ZnFeO nanoparticles (NPs) of 22 nm are synthesized by a one-pot approach and coated with silica for magnetic hyperthermia agents. The NPs exhibit superparamagnetic characteristics, high-specific absorption rate (SAR) (1083 wg, = 430 kHz, = 27 kAm), large saturation magnetization ( = 85 emu g), excellent colloidal stability and low cytotoxicity. The cell uptake properties have been investigated by Prussian blue staining, transmission electron microscopy and the inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometer, which resulted in time-dependent and concentration-dependent internalization.

January 2020

Department of Intensive Care Unit, Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing 210029, Jiangsu, China.

Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic value of ultrasonic measurement of artery peak velocity variation (ΔVpeak) on predicting fluid responsiveness in critically ill patients.

Methods: Databases of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, SinoMed, Wanfang, CNKI and VIP were retrieved from the establishment of the database to November 2019. The retrieval literatures were about the research of ΔVpeak used to judge fluid responsiveness.

Background: Elderly patients with vertebral hemangiomas are rare and might require surgery. Thus, the choice of surgery for these lesions remains controversial because of the rarity of these lesions. This study aimed to analyze the clinical efficacy of the intraoperative injection of absorbable gelatin sponge mixed with cement followed by spinal decompression to treat the elderly with typical vertebral hemangiomas.

Abstract Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a disease originated from bone marrow dendritic cells, and classified as a tumor by the discovery of a recurrent somatic BRAF-V600E point mutation in the RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK signaling pathway. The clinical manifestations of LCH are mainly granulomatous lesions composed of clonal pathological tissue cells. According to the lesions and invasive risk organs, it is divided into single system diseases, multi-system diseases with risk-free organ infiltration and multi-system diseases with risk organ infiltration.

Article Synopsis
  • Mesothelin (MSLN) is overexpressed in ovarian cancer, making it a promising target for immunotherapy, particularly using CAR NK cells.
  • Researchers created MSLN- and CD19-targeted CAR NK-92 cells, which showed a strong ability to specifically kill MSLN-positive ovarian cancer cells while sparing MSLN-negative ones.
  • In both lab and mouse models, MSLN-CAR NK cells demonstrated significant anti-tumor activity and improved survival rates, indicating the potential for MSLN-targeted immunotherapy in ovarian cancer treatment.

Purpose: To find out whether the intramedullary fixations are superior to the extramedullary fixations in treating unstable femoral intertrochanteric fractures (UFIFs).

Methods: The meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted by searching the PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase databases to evaluate functional scores, surgical outcomes, and adverse events in adult patients receiving intramedullary fixations in comparison to extramedullary fixations. Risk ratio (RR) or weighted mean difference (WMD)/standard mean difference (SMD) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated as effect sizes.

Zhengganxifeng decoction (ZGXFD) is a traditional Chinese medicinal formula, from "Medical Zhong parameter West recorded" by Xichun Zhang, which has been applied to the treatment of clinical essential hypertension. Besides its effect in blood pressure reduction, ZGXFD is also known to be a radical therapy with little or no side effects. Compared with western medicines, Chinese medicinal formulas have the advantage of simultaneously attacking multiple targets.

For avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH), repair and regeneration are difficult because of the edema and high pressure caused by continuous ischemia and hypoxia. Core decompression (CD) is a classic method for treating early ANFH before the collapse of the femoral head; however, its effect is still controversial. To improve the therapeutic effect of CD on ANFH, a novel tissue-engineered bone (TEB) was constructed by combining bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) with nano-hydroxyapatite/collagen I/poly-L-lactic acid (nHAC/PLA) scaffolds and implanting the TEB into the bone tunnel of CD.
