A three-component reaction of phenylactylene, trifluoromethyl thianthrenium triflate (TT-CFOTf) and sodium sulfinates under extremely mild conditions is developed, leading to various trifluoromethyl-substituted vinyl sulfones in moderate to good yields with excellent stereoselectivity. Additionally, elaboration of trifluoromethyl-substituted vinyl sulfone by palladium-catalyzed amination is performed. These trifluoromethyl-substituted vinyl sulfones are further evaluated for several assays against different tumor cells and the antitumor mechanism in cytotoxic autophagy induced by PI3K/Akt/mTOR signal is investigated.

Noninvasive detection of early-stage liver metastases from different primary cancers is a pressing unmet medical need. The lack of both molecular biomarkers and the sensitive imaging methodology makes the detection challenging. In this study, we observed the elevated expression of chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) in uveal melanoma (UM) patient liver tissues, and high CXCR4 expression in liver metastases of UM murine models, regardless of the expression levels in the primary tumors.

MicroRNA-506 (miR-506), a miRNA, has been proven to act as a tumor suppressor gene in nonsmall-cell lung cancer (NSCLC); Tubby-like protein 3 (TULP3) is a potential target gene of miR-506. This study investigates whether miR-506 can prevent NSCLC progression by mediating TULP3. In vivo and in vitro experiments were performed to explore the function and potential regulatory relationship of miR-506 and TULP3 in NSCLC.

Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a malignant tumor of the digestive system, with occult onset in the early stage, a high degree of malignancy in the late stage, and poor prognosis. At present, the pathogenesis of CCA is not clear, and there is a lack of effective immunotherapy. The purpose of this study was to identify the potential regulatory mechanism of CCA and analyze the possibility of its related immunotherapy.

Introduction: Avascular necrosis (AVN) after femoral neck fracture (FNF) is a rare and severe paediatric condition, but only few studies described its prognosis and risk factors. The present study aimed to evaluate the outcomes and independent factors for poor prognosis of AVN after FNF in children and adolescents.
Method: This retrospective study included children and adolescents with AVN after FNF who received conservative treatment (CT group) or non-vascularized bone grafting (NVBG group) between 2000 and 2018.

Severe inflammatory responses are considered responsible for acute lung damage in COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 enters lung cells via ACE2, and the NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome and the pro-caspase-1 are then activated, followed by release of mature IL-1β and IL-18 and other inflammatory cytokines, thereby leading to inflammation and apoptosis. This inflammatory process induces syndromes such as inflammatory cell infiltration, congestion, and edema in the lungs of COVID-19 patients.

Background: In previous studies, we demonstrated that the T1 slope (T1s) is associated with clinical outcomes, but the results were not specific for individuals. A recent study suggested that an increased pelvic tilt (PT)/sacral slope (SS) ratio may play an important role in the degeneration of lumbar scoliosis and pathogenesis of lumbar spondylolisthesis. Therefore, we aimed to explore the role of neck tilt (NT)/T1s in patients with cervical kyphosis.

The pathological progression and prognosis of traumatic femur head necrosis (TFHN) after femoral neck fracture (FNF) in children and adolescent is relatively unknown and has never been specifically characterized. As we speculated, the prognosis in such population would be poor and characterized as the high risk of femoral head collapse, hip deformity and degeneration in a short term. This retrospective case series enrolled 64 children and adolescent with TFHN who treated with observational treatment from 2000.

With the growing population and rapid change in the social environment, nurses in China are suffering from high rates of stress; however, the neural mechanism underlying this occupation related stress is largely unknown. In this study, mental status was determined for 81 nurses and 61 controls using the Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) scale. A subgroup (n = 57) was further scanned by resting-state functional MRI with two sessions.

Although chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-engineered T cells have shown great success in the treatment of B cell malignancies, this strategy has limited efficacy in patients with solid tumors. In mouse CAR-T cells, IL-7 and CCL19 expression have been demonstrated to improve T cell infiltration and CAR-T cell survival in mouse tumors. Therefore, in the current study, we engineered human CAR-T cells to secrete human IL-7 and CCL19 (7 × 19) and found that these 7 × 19 CAR-T cells showed enhanced capacities of expansion and migration in vitro.
