Background: Contextual memory loss of emotional events plays a critical role in depression psychopathology. Individuals with depression, clinical or subclinical, exhibit enhanced and impaired memory for emotionally negative stimuli and context in an event, respectively. This suggests that contextual encoding may fail because of attentional interference caused by concurrent negative stimuli, possibly leading to contextual memory loss as a depression risk.

Background: A positive ductal margin is strongly associated with poor survival in patients with distal cholangiocarcinoma. However, the significance of the radial margin status and its effect on survival are not fully clarified.
Methods: All patients with distal cholangiocarcinoma who underwent pancreatoduodenectomy between January 2000 and December 2018 at Tokai University Hospital were retrospectively analyzed.

Biclonal gammopathy (BG) is a rare phenomenon in which 2 M proteins are detected in the same patient, with 2 major hypotheses regarding its etiology. One potential explanation is that completely different malignant B-cell clones produce different M proteins, while the other is that there is a malignant clone that produces both M proteins simultaneously. In this study, we examined 2 cases of B-cell malignancy with BG and found that some cells were double positive for both M proteins by immunofluorescence and flow cytometry.

Childhood maltreatment has been associated with increased inflammation, as indicated by elevated levels of proinflammatory markers such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP). Studies in humans show that secretion of IL-6 follows a clear circadian rhythm, implying that its disturbed rhythm represents an important aspect of dysregulated inflammatory system. However, possible alterations in diurnal secretion patterns of IL-6 associated with childhood maltreatment have not been studied.

Background: In the current guidelines, indications for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) are expanded to include several subgroups of asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS), and there is a paucity of data on the prognostic impact of New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class in patients with severe AS undergoing TAVI.
Methods: Among 2588 patients enrolled in the OCEAN-TAVI registry, patients were divided into 4 groups according to baseline NYHA class (class I in 95 patients, class II in 1172 patients, class III in 1126 patients, and class IV in 195 patients).
Results: Median follow-up was 729 days.
Background: The effect of sex on mortality is controversial; furthermore, sex differences in left ventricular (LV) remodeling after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) remain unknown.
Methods and results: This study included 2,588 patients (1,793 [69.3%] female) enrolled in the Optimized CathEter vAlvular iNtervention (OCEAN)-TAVI Japanese multicenter registry between October 2013 and May 2017.

Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is the most common pediatric systemic vasculitides of unknown etiology. Recent clinical studies led to reappraisal of the usefulness of initial combination therapy of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) plus a corticosteroid for patients with severe KD. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the clinical benefits of that combination therapy remain unclear.

Objectives: To confirm whether the rescue transcatheter heart valve in the transcatheter heart valve (THV-in-THV) procedure is effective and feasible, we aimed to assess the midterm outcomes following rescue THV-in-THV procedures. The trends in the usage of the rescue THV-in-THV procedure at the time of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) have also been explored.
Background: Midterm outcomes of the rescue THV-in-THV procedure have been poorly defined, though it is popular as an effective method to bail-out some complications in TAVI.

Objective: There is paucity of data on optimal medical treatment, including use of beta blockers for patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). The study aimed to investigate the association of beta blockers and clinical outcomes following TAVR.
Methods: We examined data of 2563 patients who underwent TAVR between October 2013 and May 2017 obtained from a prospective multicentre cohort registry, the optimised catheter valvular intervention-TAVI registry.

Background: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is widely used; however, its appropriateness is unknown. We sought to investigate the appropriateness of TAVR.
Methods And Results: We assigned appropriateness ratings to patients undergoing TAVR for severe aortic stenosis between October 2013 and May 2017 at 14 Japanese hospitals participating in the optimized transcatheter valvular intervention-transcatheter aortic valve implantation registry according to the US appropriate use criteria for treating severe aortic stenosis.

Pre-procedural valvuloarterial impedance (Zva) is considered as a useful predictor of mortality in patients diagnosed as having severe aortic stenosis (AS) who undergo transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). However, the prognostic significance of post-procedural Zva remains unclear. We aimed to evaluate the prognostic significance of Zva after TAVI.

To detect pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) at any early stage is a promising approach to optimize the outcome. To investigate the impact of school ECG-based screening on detecting idiopathic or heritable (I/H)-PAH in the general pediatric population. This was a nationwide survey of patients with I/H-PAH newly diagnosed at 3 months to 18 years of age in Japan during 2005-2012.

Objectives: Inefficient aortic flow after the Norwood procedure is known to lead to the deterioration of ventricular function due to an increased cardiac workload. To prevent the progression of aortic arch obstruction, arch reconstruction concomitant with second-stage surgery is recommended. The aim of this study was to determine the indications for reconstruction based on numerical simulation and to reveal the morphology that affects the haemodynamic parameters.

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute febrile illness of childhood characterized by systemic vasculitis, especially coronary arteritis. Aortic valve regurgitation (AVR) is a relatively common complication. There have been no reports to date of heart failure and left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC) after acute KD, although the precise etiology of this condition remains unclear.
