Acrylamide (ACR) is a commonly used organic compound that exhibits evident neurotoxicity in humans. Our previous studies showed that the mechanisms of ACR-caused neurotoxicity included apoptosis, PERK-mediated endoplasmic reticulum stress, and autophagy, but the relationships among them were still unclear. This paper investigated the relationships among apoptosis, autophagy, and the PERK pathway to demonstrate the mechanism of ACR neurotoxicity further.

This study assessed the effects of fenobucarb (F) (1%, 10%, and 20% of the LC-96h value) on the brain cholinesterase (AChE) activity, food intake (FI), feed conversion rate (FCR), and growth of silver barb (, Bleeker, 1849). It also assessed the AChE inhibition levels that cause the abnormal swimming, behavior, and mortality of silver barb and how the feeding regime affects the recovery rate of the AChE activity. The results showed that the brain AChE inhibition increased with the F concentrations.

Developmental exposure to benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), a ubiquitous environmental pollutant, has been linked to various toxic effects, including multigenerational behavioral impairment. While the specific mechanisms driving BaP neurotoxicity are not fully understood, recent work highlights two important determinants of developmental BaP neurotoxicity: (1) the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), which induces host metabolism of BaP, and (2) the gut microbiome, which may interact with BaP to affect its metabolism, or be perturbed by BaP to disrupt the gut-brain axis. We utilized the zebrafish model to explore the role of AHR, the gut microbiome, and their interaction, on BaP-induced neurotoxicity.

Since the biological activities and toxicities of 'foreign' and/or excess levels of metal ions are predominantly determined by their precise molecular nature, here we have employed high-resolution H NMR analysis to explore the 'speciation' of paramagnetic Ni(II) ions in human saliva, a potentially rich source of biomolecular Ni(II)-complexants/chelators. These studies are of relevance to the corrosion of nickel-containing metal alloy dental prostheses (NiC-MADPs) in addition to the dietary or adverse toxicological intake of Ni(II) ions by humans. Unstimulated whole-mouth human saliva samples were obtained from n = 12 pre-fasted (≥8 h) healthy participants, and clear whole-mouth salivary supernatants (WMSSs) were obtained from these via centrifugation.
