Background: Digoxin poisoning leads to the development of cardiac and noncardiac complications. Digoxin immune fab is a safe and effective antidote, but clinical trials have not been performed in this regard, and most of the evidence is based on prospective studies. Understanding the toxicoepidemiology pattern of digoxin poisoning could provide valuable context for better managing its acute poisoning.

Background And Purpose: The aim of the present study was to study the antiarrhythmic effects and cellular mechanisms of desethylamiodarone (DEA), the main metabolite of amiodarone (AMIO), following acute and chronic 4-week oral treatments (25-50 mg·kg ·day ).
Experimental Approach: The antiarrhythmic effects of acute iv. (10 mg·kg ) and chronic oral (4 weeks, 25 mg·kg ·day ) administration of DEA were assessed in carbachol and tachypacing-induced dog atrial fibrillation models.

Introduction: The most effective treatment for withdrawal syndrome in Opioid-dependent patients admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) remains unknown. This study aimed to compare fentanyl and methadone in this regard.
Methods: This prospective, single-blinded, controlled pilot study was conducted on opioid-dependent intubated patients admitted to the toxicology ICU of Loghman Hakim Hospital, Tehran, Iran, between August 2019 and August 2020.

Poisoning, as a well-known medical condition, puts everyone at risk. As a data management tool, a registry plays an important role in monitoring the poisoned patients. Having a poisoning minimum data set is a major requirement for creating a poisoning registry.

Nanotubular connections between mammalian cell types came into the focus only two decades ago, when "live cell super-resolution imaging" was introduced. Observations of these long-time overlooked structures led to understanding mechanisms of their growth/withdrawal and exploring some key genetic and signaling factors behind their formation. Unbelievable level of multiple supportive collaboration between tumor cells undergoing cytotoxic chemotherapy, cross-feeding" between independent bacterial strains or "cross-dressing" collaboration of immune cells promoting cellular immune response, all via nanotubes, have been explored recently.

Background: The scientific evidence concerning pathogenesis and immunopathology of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is rapidly evolving in the literature. To evaluate the different tissues obtained by biopsy and autopsy from five patients who expired from severe COVID-19 in our medical center.
Methods: This retrospective study reviewed five patients with severe COVID-19, confirmed by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and imaging, to determine the potential correlations between histologic findings with patient outcome.

A novel 6-phytase (Phytase TSP, trade name OptiPhos® PLUS) with improved thermostability has been developed for use in animal feed. The safety of the new phytase was evaluated by testing for genotoxicity and subchronic toxicity. In and genotoxicity assays Phytase TSP concentrate was not mutagenic and did not induce biologically or statistically significant increases in the frequency of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes.

Clozapine is effective in treatment-resistant schizophrenia; however, adverse effects often result in discontinuation of clozapine therapy. Many of the side-effects are associated with pharmacokinetic variations; therefore, the expression of major clozapine-metabolizing enzymes (CYP1A2, CYP3A4) in patients may predict development of adverse effects. In patients with schizophrenia (N = 96), development of clozapine concentration-dependent metabolic side-effects was found to be associated with pharmacokinetic variability related to CYP3A4 but not to CYP1A2 expression.

Introduction: The serial clinical failures of novel cognitive enhancer candidates point out the lack of predictive power in the preceding animal experimentation. For a more predictive profiling of putative procognitive drugs in rodents, we recently elaborated a methodical approach which consists of three fundamental steps: 1. teaching various learning tasks representing different cognitive domains to the same cohort of animals with the aim to create a population with 'widespread knowledge'.

Cyanate has been recognized as a uremic toxin that can adversely affect the clinical status of patients with chronic kidney disease. Besides, its toxicity has been under investigation in mammalian toxicology. If such studies are supplemented with toxicokinetic sampling and bioanalysis, additional information can be acquired about the systemic exposure.

Purpose: A recent survey has shown that the COVID-19 pandemic has culminated in dramatical and critical treatment particularly in acute infected patients. In fact, this systematic review-meta-analysis was directly pertained to estimation at the efficient value of some clinical managements to confront the COVID-19 infection.
Methods: Pubmed, Embase, Scopus, Cochrane, and Scholar databases were searched from inception to July 1, 2020, to identify studies reporting the current treatment process and medications (e.
Background: Examination of serum lactate level and its changes, as an indicator of tissue oxygenation, as well as level of creatine kinase (CK) inhibitors, as a factor of mortality which partially expresses heart, brain, and muscle damage, may be considered as tools to determine prognosis in critically ill patients. We aimed to evaluate these two factors as potential prognostic factors in critically poisoned patients admitted to our toxicology ICU.
Method: This is a cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study that was performed on poisoned patients referred to emergency department of Loghman Hakim Hospital.

Introduction: Tramadol is an active analgesic drug that is commonly used to treat moderate to severe pain. The present study aimed to assess the arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis of patients with tramadol-induced seizure (TIS).
Methods: This prospective cross-sectional study was performed on 50 TIS cases that were referred to emergency department within a maximum of one hour after their last episode of seizure.

Background: The optimal goal of naloxone infusion in intensive care units is to ameliorate opioid-induced side effects in therapy or eliminate the symptoms of opioid toxicity in overdoses. Accurately monitoring and regulating the doses is critical to prevent adverse effects related to naloxone administration. The present study aimed to compare treatment outcomes when using two methods of intravenous naloxone infusion: an infusion pump or the standard method.

The gut microbiota is important for maintaining the integrity of the intestinal barrier, promoting immunological tolerance and carrying out metabolic activities that have not evolved in hosts. Intestinal dysbiosis is associated with chronic kidney disease and probiotic supplementation has been shown to be beneficial. However, it is not known whether gut microorganisms‑specifically, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) can protect against acute kidney injury (AKI).

Background: Naloxone is the usual drug used in opioid-induced respiratory depression but it has a short half-life, precipitates withdrawal in dependent patients, and thus for persistent reversal of long-acting opioids has to be given by titrated doses and infusions. The partial agonist buprenorphine has a much longer duration of action and causes less severe withdrawal, but still should largely reverse respiratory depression induced by full agonist opioids. We aimed to compare the efficacy/safety of buprenorphine and naloxone in reversing respiratory depression in methadone-poisoned opioid-dependent patients.

Background And Aim: Vancomycin has been the first-line therapy for MRSA infection disease for many years. According to standard guidelines, the therapeutic vancomycin trough concentration should be above 10 mg/L and optimally between 15-20 mg/L. The aim of this study was to evaluate vancomycin trough level concentration in patients infected with MRSA.
