The progesterone receptor (PR) is a steroid-responsive nuclear receptor with two isoforms: PR-A and PR-B. Disruption of PR-A:PR-B signaling is associated with breast cancer through interactions with oncogenic co-regulatory proteins (CoRs). However, molecular details of isoform-specific PR-CoR interactions remain poorly understood.

SARS-CoV-2 utilizes the angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors located on membranes to enter host cells. Nevertheless, the gene primarily encodes for a zinc metalloproteinase, which is a part of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). ACE2 downregulation results in the deregulation of RAS in favor of pro-fibrosis, pro-apoptosis, oxidative stress, pro-inflammation, aldosterone production and release, and blood vessel contraction axis.

Embryos undergo pre-gastrulation cleavage cycles to generate a critical cell mass before transitioning to morphogenesis. The molecular underpinnings of this transition have traditionally centered on zygotic chromatin remodeling and genome activation, as their repression can prevent downstream processes of differentiation and organogenesis. Despite precedents that oxygen depletion can similarly suspend development in early embryos, hinting at a pivotal role for oxygen metabolism in this transition, whether there is a chemical switch that licenses the onset of morphogenesis remains unknown.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood product containing concentrated platelets, growth factors, and anti-inflammatory cytokines that promote healing and regeneration. Platelets release active components through a degranulation process, which is inhibited by certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Current deferral guidelines are not established, but NSAIDs are expected to have a time-dose relationship with platelet inhibition.

Objective: While approaches for utilizing student course evaluations (SCEs) have been discussed in the literature, there remain opportunities to identify ideal practices for SCEs. Thus, the objective of this project was to generate consensus on best practices in creating, administering, and using SCEs.

Methods: A modified Delphi approach was utilized to generate a set of items based on the literature and prior work.

Measuring respiration rate can be a powerful way to assess energetic function in isolated mitochondria and intact cells. Current plate-based methods have several advantages over older suspension-based systems, including greater throughput and the requirement of only microgram quantities of material. In this chapter, we provide an update to our previously published methods for plate-based measurement of oxygen consumption in isolated adherent mitochondria in a 96-well format plate.

Article Synopsis
  • After the COVID-19 pandemic, there's a push for better pandemic preparedness through initiatives like the WHO's Pandemic Treaty and the World Bank's Pandemic Fund, particularly benefiting nations like Cambodia transitioning to higher income status.
  • A study examined the relationship between universal health coverage (UHC) and global health security (GHS) in Cambodia, utilizing policy reviews and stakeholder consultations, revealing both synergies and dis-synergies in health strategies.
  • Key suggestions include fostering collaboration within the Ministry of Health and training programs to enhance awareness of how UHC and GHS can work together to improve health outcomes in Cambodia.

Recent advancements in oncology have led to the development of histology-agnostic therapies, which target genetic alterations irrespective of the tumor's tissue of origin. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive update on the current state of histology-agnostic drug development, focusing on key therapies, including pembrolizumab, larotrectinib, entrectinib, dostarlimab, dabrafenib plus trametinib, selpercatinib, trastuzumab deruxtecan, and reprotrectinib. We performed a detailed analysis of each therapy's mechanism of action, clinical trial outcomes, and associated biomarkers.

In primates and other mammals, the capacity to generate a wide maximum jaw gape is an important performance variable related to both feeding and nonfeeding oral behaviors, such as canine gape display and clearing the canines for use as weapons during aggressive encounters. Across sexually dimorphic catarrhine primates, gape is significantly correlated with canine height and with musculoskeletal features that facilitate wide gapes. Given the importance of canine gape behaviors in males as part of intrasexual competition for females, functional relationships between gape, canine height, and musculoskeletal morphology can be predicted to differ between the sexes.

Background: The rapid production of influenza vaccines is crucial to meet increasing pandemic response demands. Here, we developed plant-made vaccines comprising centralized consensus influenza hemagglutinin (HA-con) proteins (H1 and H3 subtypes) conjugated to a modified plant virus, tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) nanoparticle (TMV-HA-con).

Methods: We compared immune responses and protective efficacy against historical H1 or H3 influenza A virus infections among TMV-HA-con, HA-con protein combined with AddaVax™ adjuvant, and whole-inactivated virus vaccine (Fluzone).

Judging whether an editor is good at the job is essential; however, this task may be difficult or even impossible. Several factors are involved, many of which are beyond the control of an editor. We examined some of such situations, which are as follows: (1) Reviewer's abuse of privileged information, in which a reviewer or an associate, who is likely to be a competitor, directs members of their laboratory to rapidly replicate the data and submit the resulting paper in the same or another journal while delaying publication of the submitted paper; (2) defective micromanagement by a stakeholder or owner, such as failure to order paper for the publication of a journal; (3) penny-wise dollar-foolish mismanagement by the owner, such as limiting the figures allowed to an absurdly low number in a dermatology journal (we have a visual specialty); (4) factional abuse, such as when members of a society use a gimmick to exercise outsized influence to effect a change in journal's content, and (5) " (who is in charge)?," in which changes in the governance of an ownership society or publisher affect quality of the journal.
