An electrocardiogram, used to not only assess the rate and rhythm of the heart but also to evaluate for injury to the heart, is performed by attaching 12 leads to the patient's body. A myocardial infarction can be mimicked by the misplacement of the leads. A 58-year-old man with long-distance running-associated bradycardia developed postoperative atrial fibrillation with a rapid ventricular response.

Standards of care summarized in clinical practice guidelines for nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) offer clinicians a streamlined diagnostic and management approach based on the best available evidence. These recommendations have changed a great deal in recent years; today, there is a clear focus on screening for the early identification and risk stratification of patients at high risk of steatohepatitis and clinically significant fibrosis to promote timely referrals to specialty care when needed. This article reviews and provides the rationale for current guidelines for NAFLD screening, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring and addresses barriers to providing evidence-based NAFLD care and how to overcome them.

A symbiotic relationship between the editor and the owner of a medical journal is important for the journal to fulfill successfully the expectations of its readers and authors. Editorial freedom and transparency by owner of the journal are important qualities that enable the editor to provide valid scientific information in an unbiased manner. Unresolved impedance of editorial freedom or the persistent lack of transparency or both frequently results in untenable consequences for editor and often a substantial defamation of the journal's credibility.

Skin of color refers to individuals whose skin color ranges from very light beige to very dark brown. Anthropologists and sociologists have previously recognized the importance of an objective classification of skin color for individuals with skin of color that does not include race and ethnicity. Since 1975, dermatologists have used the Fitzpatrick classification of sun-reactive skin types to categorize patients with skin of color; this classification was established for psoriasis patients participating in using oral methoxsalen and phototherapy clinical trial to determine the initial ultraviolet A dose.

The evaluation of the skin of the decedent is an essential component of the assessment by the forensic pathologist or the medical examiner. Age-associated cutaneous changes, primary diseases of the skin, and systemic conditions with mucocutaneous manifestations can be present. Importantly, several dermatoses can be misinterpreted for traumatic injuries; specifically, adverse reactions to medications can mimic assault, burns, elder abuse, and mutilation or torture.

Dolutegravir (DTG), an integrase strand transfer inhibitor is currently the recommended first and second line anti-retroviral therapy (ART) anchor agent by the World Health Organization due to its favorable side effect profile, high efficacy and genetic barrier to resistance.Despite its very good side effect profile, there have been multiple case reports of ART experienced patients developing hyperglycemia within weeks to a few months after switching to DTG preceded by weight loss. At population level, however, DTG as well as other integrase inhibitors have been demonstrated to have a reduced risk of incident diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared to other HIV drug classes.

Context: Provider-enacted stigma is a barrier for people with substance use disorder (SUD) who interface with the healthcare system, and it has been shown to lead to worse healthcare outcomes. This has given urgency to the need for stigma reduction interventions such as education- and contact-based approaches. The positive effect of interprofessional education (IPE) in reducing graduate health students' stigmatizing attitudes on opioids has been examined before, and we contribute to the existing literature by examining the attitudes across the following four health disciplines-osteopathic medicine, physician assistant (PA) studies and public health, pharmacy, and nursing-following a single half-day IPE event focused on opioid use disorder (OUD).

Background: The Uganda Ministry of Health issued restrictive guidelines on the use of dolutegravir (DTG) in persons stratified to have a heightened risk of diabetes mellitus. This followed multiple reports of persons with HIV (PWH) presenting with accelerated hyperglycemia after a few weeks to months of exposure to DTG. Having demonstrated a low incidence of diabetes mellitus and improving blood glucose trajectories in a cohort of ART naïve Ugandan PWH on DTG, we sought to determine whether the observed improvement in blood glucose did not mask background compensated insulin resistance.

Introduction: Practice patterns around the use of urodynamic evaluation (UDS) for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) surgery are largely undefined. As such, we investigated factors associated with the use of UDS for BPH.
Methods: We used American Board of Urology case log data from 2008 to 2020, to compare patient- and surgeon-sided factors associated with UDS utilization and BPH surgeries.
