Background & Aims: The association between sarcopenia and malnutrition has been poorly studied in the older population. The purpose of this study is to address the association between sarcopenia, according to different validated definitions, and nutritional status in a large population of community-dwelling older adults.

Methods: Observational, cross-sectional study of the Geriatric Frailty Clinic (GFC) for Assessment of Frailty and Prevention of Disability, held by the "Gérontopôle" of the Toulouse University Hospital.

Avapritinib versus Placebo in Indolent Systemic Mastocytosis.

BACKGROUND: Indolent systemic mastocytosis (ISM) is a clonal mast-cell disease driven by the KIT D816V mutation. We assessed the efficacy and safety of avapritinib versus placebo, both with best supportive care, in patients with ISM. METHODS: We randomized patients with moderate to severe ISM (total symptom score [TSS] of ≥28; scores range from 0 to 110, with higher numbers indicating more severe symptoms) two to one to avapritinib 25 mg once daily (n=141) or placebo (n=71).

Background: The present study aimed to describe the clinical and ultrasound (US) long-term follow-up of patients with transient perivascular inflammation of the carotid artery (TIPIC) syndrome and the risk of recurrence.

Methods: We enrolled patients with a definitive diagnosis of TIPIC syndrome who were included in a retrospective multicenter study. These patients were recontacted at least six months after the first TIPIC episode for a clinical and imaging follow-up.

Objective: The VOYAGER-PAD trial demonstrated the interest in dual pathway inhibition (DPI) (low dose rivaroxaban plus aspirin) to reduce limb and cardiovascular events after revascularisation for peripheral artery disease (PAD), but its applicability in clinical practice has not yet been assessed. This study aimed to assess the number of patients revascularised in France for PAD and to estimate the proportion of those matching the VOYAGER-PAD trial selection criteria. A secondary objective was to examine the prognosis of revascularised patients in a real world setting.

Newly developed assays enable the measurement of blood-based Alzheimer's disease biomarkers in larger samples.

Association of physical behaviours with sarcopenia in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies.

Background: Physical behaviours (ie, physical activity and sedentary behaviour) might have a role in the development of sarcopenia, although the evidence is unclear. We aimed to explore the association of total and intensity-specific levels of physical activity and sedentary behaviour with sarcopenia and its components (ie, muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance) in older adults.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis and searched MEDLINE (via PubMed), Scopus, and Web of Science from inception to July 26, 2022, for peer-reviewed, observational studies or baseline data from randomised clinical trials conducted in older adults (ie, individual age ≥60 years or mean age ≥65 years) and published in English that reported on the association of physical activity or sedentary behaviour or both with sarcopenia (or its determinants: muscle mass or strength, and physical performance).

Towards etiological treatments in cardiomyopathies.

This review proposes to look at the evolution of cardiomyopathy treatments in the light of advances in diagnostic techniques, which have enabled to move from a mechanistic to a phenotypic and then etiological approach. The article goes beyond the ejection fraction approach, and look at new therapies that target the pathophysiological pathways of cardiomyopathies, either by targeting the phenotype, or by targeting the etiology. The evolution of HCM treatments is detailed, culminating in the latest etiological treatments such as mavacamten in sarcomeric HCM, tafamidis in transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis and migalastat in Fabry disease.

Acute splenic sequestration crisis (ASSC) is a potentially life-threatening complication of sickle cell disease (SCD), typically occurring in young patients under 5 years of age, with a median age at first episode of less than 2 years. Because a beneficial effect of hydroxyurea (HU) on spleen perfusion and splenic function has been suspected, we hypothesized that HU treatment might be associated with later onset of ASSC in patients with SCD.
