Background: To reduce the number of deaths caused by exsanguination, the initial management of severe trauma aims to prevent, if not limit, the lethal triad, which consists of acidosis, coagulopathy, and hypothermia. Recently, several studies have suggested adding hypocalcemia to the lethal triad to form the lethal diamond, but the evidence supporting this change is limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the lethal triad and lethal diamond for their respective associations with 24-h mortality in severe trauma patients receiving transfusion.

Background: There are limited therapeutic options in cases of failed reperfusion (modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction [mTICI] score < 2b) after stent-retriever and/or aspiration based endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke. Despite the absence of data supporting its use, rescue therapy (balloon angioplasty and/or stent implantation) is often utilized in such cases. Studies are limited to large vessel occlusions, while the outcomes and complications after rescue therapy in medium/distal vessel occlusions (MDVOs) have not been reported.

Amid the early 2020 SARS-CoV-2 crisis, severe hand sanitizer shortages led to OMS local production recommendations, inviting a diverse array of alcohol producers to contribute. However, not all followed mandatory controls for API-grade alcohol. We conducted a study to ensure the safety of the received alcohols, focusing on methanol and acetaldehyde levels.

The precise and fleeting moment of rich recollection triggered by an environmental cue is difficult to reproduce in the lab. However, epilepsy patients can experience sudden reminiscences after intracranial electrical brain stimulation (EBS). In these cases, the transient brain state related to the activation of the engram and its conscious perception can be recorded using intracerebral EEG (iEEG).

The role of the medial part of the thalamus, and in particular the mediodorsal nucleus (MD) and the mammillothalamic tract (MTT), in memory has long been studied, but their contribution remains unclear. While the main functional hypothesis regarding the MTT focuses on memory, some authors postulate that the MD plays a supervisory executive role (indirectly affecting memory retrieval) due to its dense structural connectivity with the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Recently, it has been proposed that the MD, MTT and PFC form part of the DMN the default mode network (DMN).

Background: Medulloblastoma (MB) is one of the most prevalent embryonal malignant brain tumors. Current classification organizes these tumors into four molecular subgroups (WNT, SHH, Group 3, and Group 4 MB). Recently, a comprehensive classification has been established, identifying numerous subtypes, some of which exhibit a poor prognosis.

The McMaster Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) Summit was an educational seminar from leading experts in immune thrombocytopenia and related disorders geared towards hematologists, internists, immunologists, and clinical and translational scientists. The focus of the Summit was to review the mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of primary versus secondary ITP. Specific objectives were to describe the unique features of secondary ITP, and to review its mechanisms in the context of autoimmune disease and infection.

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a rare but treatable inherited neurometabolic disorder that can lead to severe sequelae if left untreated. Chenodeoxycholic acid is a safe and effective treatment for CTX. Early diagnosis is essential to improve patient outcomes.

Background: Indications for Veno-venous (VV) or veno-arterial (VA) extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) after trauma rely on poor evidence. The main aims were to describe the population of trauma patients requiring either VV or VA ECMO and report their clinical management and outcomes.
Methods: An observational multicentre retrospective study was conducted in 17 Level 1 trauma centres in France between January 2010 and December 2021.

Background: Collateral circulation plays a key role in acute ischemic stroke. We sought to determine the association between the arterial collateral status, estimated by the Hypoperfusion Intensity Ratio (HIR) on perfusion MRI, and stroke etiology in anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO).
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed anterior circulation LVO acute stroke patients with a baseline perfusion MRI performed within 24 h from symptom onset.

Introduction: Membranous nephropathy can lead to end-stage kidney disease, for which kidney transplantation is the preferred therapy. However, the disease often relapses, which can impact allograft survival.
Methods: We conducted a prospective multicenter study in France involving 72 patients with membranous nephropathy who were awaiting and then underwent kidney transplantation.

Background: The assessment of gait disorders in patients with neuromotor conditions, such as cerebral palsy (CP), has been a focus of clinical and research attention, with electromyography (EMG) offering a nuanced understanding of neurological and neuromuscular disorders. However, the interpretation of EMG data in the context of gait analysis remains challenging due to the complexity of neuromotor dynamics and variability in assessment methodologies.
Research Question: To which consensus can we get in a group of experts in the fields of neurological and neuromuscular disorders, biomechanics, and clinical gait analysis to establish standardized protocols and a common language for the measurement and analysis of EMG data in gait disorders, particularly in people living with CP?
Methods: A three-round Delphi process was conducted from February to September 2023 to gather opinions of 53 experts on the use of surface EMG data during gait in the context of CP.
Biological age, which reflects the physiological state of an individual, offers a better predictive value than chronological age for age-related diseases and mortality. Nonetheless, determining accurate functional features of biological age remains challenging due to the multifactorial nature of aging. Here, we established a unique mouse cohort comprising 1576 male and female outbred SWISS mice subjected or not to high-fat, high-sucrose diet to investigate multiorgan/system biological aging throughout adulthood.

While mostly de novo truncating variants in SCAF4 were recently identified in 18 individuals with variable neurodevelopmental phenotypes, knowledge on the molecular and clinical spectrum is still limited. We assembled data on 50 novel individuals with SCAF4 variants ascertained via GeneMatcher and personal communication. With detailed evaluation of clinical data, in silico predictions and structural modeling, we further characterized the molecular and clinical spectrum of the autosomal dominant SCAF4-associated neurodevelopmental disorder.

Aim: There remains no consensus on the definition or value of early oral feeding after head and neck surgery. The main objective of this study was to determine how immediate oral feeding (IOF) with soft diet within 2 days following free-flap reconstruction of the oral cavity affected severe post-operative morbidity within 30 days and length of hospital stay (LoS).
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was carried out in 2021-2023 in our tertiary hospital center.

This review examines the differences and similarities between the European and American guidelines concerning the use of imaging in the diagnosis and management of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and aortic disease. PAD and aortic conditions contribute significantly to global cardiovascular morbidity and mortality; yet, they are often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Imaging plays a critical role in addressing this gap, with the European Society of Cardiology and American Cardiac Society offering different approaches to diagnostic and interventional imaging modalities.

Methodology: In this multicentric 18-month follow-up study, 326 adult patients who initiated biologic therapy for severe uncontrolled CRSwNP were included.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) rarely occurs during childhood and, with few exceptions, should be considered as a disease of sick children. Current recommendations concerning the duration of anticoagulant treatment for paediatric VTE are essentially based on the results of clinical trials conducted in adults. Yet the underlying medical conditions, incidence, and anatomical locations of the disease, as well as the rates of unprovoked VTE, morbidity, and mortality, differ between adults and children.
