A 59-year-old woman developed sudden dyspnea after taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for epigastralgia. She had a history of bronchial asthma after childbirth. Computed tomography showed bilateral peripheral bronchial wall thickening, lumen narrowing, obstruction, and circumferential lower esophageal mucosal edema.

Preoperative portal vein embolization is a beneficial option to reduce the risk of postoperative liver failure by promoting the growth of the future liver remnant. In particular, a percutaneous transhepatic procedure (percutaneous transhepatic portal vein embolization) has been developed as a less-invasive approach. Although percutaneous transhepatic portal vein embolization is widely recognized as a safe procedure, various complications, including rare but fatal adverse events, have been reported.

Purpose: Radiological tumor burden has been reported to be prognostic in many malignancies in the immunotherapy era, yet whether it is prognostic in patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC) treated with pembrolizumab remains uninvestigated. We sought to assess the predictive and prognostic value of radiological tumor burden in patients with mUC.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 308 patients with mUC treated with pembrolizumab.

Asian variant intravascular lymphoma (AIVL) is a rare type of intravascular lymphoma that occurs in Asian populations. Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone selection (SIADH) frequently occurs in patients with AIVL. Because it remains difficult to diagnose and has a poor prognosis, markers for early diagnosis are required.

Objective: Predictors of prognosis are necessary for use in routine clinical practice for older patients with pneumonia, given the ageing of the population. Recently, the National Early Warning Score (NEWS), a comprehensive predictor of severity that consists solely of physiological indicators, has been proposed to predict the prognosis of pneumonia. The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a simple index of inflammation that may also be predictive of pneumonia.

Aims: Lymph node metastases (LNM) are associated with lethal prognosis in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Lymphadenectomy is crucial for accurate staging and hopes of possible oncological treatment. However, the therapeutic implications and optimal extent of lymphadenectomy remain contentious.

A previously healthy Japanese woman in her 20s was admitted to our hospital with a 2-week history of fever (39.0°C) and a 1-week history of painful cervical lymphadenopathy. The day before fever onset, she had received her first Pfizer-BioNTech SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in her left arm.

Background: For people who are malnourished and unable to consume food by mouth, nasoenteral feeding tubes are commonly used for the administration of liquid food and drugs. Postpyloric placement is when the tip of the feeding tube is placed beyond the pylorus, in the small intestine. Endoscopic-guided placement of postpyloric feeding tubes is the most common approach.

Background: Lymph node metastasis (LNM) has been established as a critical risk factor for prognosis in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). The clinical implications of lymph node dissection (LND) have been debated. This study aimed to clarify the prognostic impact of LND by multicenter retrospective analysis.

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) usually has a good prognosis; however, patients may develop sequelae without prompt treatment. We herein describe an 81-year-old woman who developed acute-onset excruciating thigh pain and weakness in her lower extremities after spinal surgery. We diagnosed acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy by a nerve conduction study, which showed findings of demyelination without cerebrospinal fluid analysis because of a spinal prosthesis.

Background: In the surgical treatment of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), postoperative complications may be predictive of long-term survival. This study aimed to identify an immune-nutritional index (INI) that can be used for preoperative prediction of complications.
Patients And Methods: Multi-institutional data from 316 patients with ICC who had undergone surgical resection were retrospectively analysed, with a focus on various preoperative INIs.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) in patients with a small prostate volume (≤30 mL).
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 1,135 patients who underwent HoLEP at two institutions between July 2007 and March 2020. Patients who were not evaluated for the International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) before or after HoLEP were excluded.

Objectives: To identify prognostic factors for TAFRO syndrome, a rare inflammatory disorder of unknown etiology characterized by thrombocytopenia, anasarca, fever, reticulin myelofibrosis, renal dysfunction, and organomegaly.
Methods: Data of patients with TAFRO syndrome were extracted from a Japanese patient registry. Patients were divided into groups according to the clinical and laboratory parameters at initial presentation.

Design: In a multicentre randomised prospective study, we compared covered (CSEMS) with uncovered self-expandable metal stents (UCSEMS) in patients with mGOO; main outcomes were stent dysfunction and patient survival, with subgroup analyses of patients with extrinsic and intrinsic tumours.

A 60-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with bilateral post auricular masses, first noticed 1 year earlier. Blood tests showed eosinophilia and high immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels, and cervical computed tomography showed 10-mm soft tissue masses with scattered lymphadenopathy. The tumors showed intermediate and high signal intensity on T1- and T2-weighted cervical magnetic resonance imaging, respectively.

Objective: The usefulness of the modified Glasgow prognostic score (GPS) as a prognostic tool remains unclear for patients undergoing curative surgery for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). Therefore, this study investigated the prognostic usefulness of the GPS for patients who underwent ICC surgery.
Method: All ICC patients who had a curative-intent hepatectomy at 17 institutions between 2000 and 2016 were included.

Background: The prognosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) has been poor, because of the high recurrence rate even after curative surgery. This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic impact of surgical resection of recurrent ICC.
Patients And Methods: A total of 345 cases of ICC who underwent hepatectomy with curative intent in 17 institutions were retrospectively analyzed, focusing on recurrence patterns and treatment modalities for recurrent ICC.
Background And Aim: A low hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) level is reported to be predictive of future HBsAg seroclearance. A hospital-based cohort study was conducted to clarify the clinical features of patients with low HBsAg levels and to demonstrate the usefulness of low HBsAg levels for predicting HBsAg seroclearance.
Methods: A total of 1459 patients with chronic hepatitis B were included in the study.
